The car drove into the alley and stopped in front of the old house. Kris Cooper took two quick steps to catch up with Vera Wave, reaching out to wrap his arm around her waist.
As Vera opened the door, he slipped his hand inside her clothing.
"This fabric feels really nice!"
"Ugh, take it away."
"Take this away?"
"Ah... You jerk..."
Laughing and teasing, they opened the door and walked into the old house, not noticing the pair of jealous eyes watching from behind a tree not far away.
Only when the main door shut tightly, and their voices gradually faded, did Irene Spencer step out from the shadows behind the tree.
After spending two weeks in the detention center, she had lost quite a bit of weight, and her face appeared sowhat pale.
A bandage was noticeably wrapped around her right arm.
In the courtyard.
Vera Wave quietly retreated from Grandma Wave’s room.
"Asleep?" Kris Cooper asked softly.
"Mhm."
Vera responded softly, holding his hand as they entered the room together. As soon as they walked in, the man pulled her waist toward him, embraced her in his arms, and leaned down to kiss her neck.
They had been busy these past few days and hadn’t been intimate. Since he ca ho early today, he certainly wouldn’t miss the chance.
But then the phone in his pocket vibrated.
"Damn it!"
He cursed under his breath, his lips still on her neck, and fished out the phone without looking, hanging up and tossing it aside.
In less than two seconds, the phone vibrated again.
The man paused but ignored it.
Vera gently pushed his shoulder, "You should check, it might be important!"
The man continued to caress her body, mumbling, "Forget about it."
She pulled his hand away, "You take the call, I’ll go take a shower first."
"Let’s shower together." He lifted his head from her neck, giving her a peck on the lips, "You go first, I’ll join you in a minute."
With a faint blush, Vera walked into the bathroom, and he reached for the phone on the table, glanced at the number, and brought it to his ear.
"Give one good reason, or I’ll fire you tomorrow."
On the other end, Tommy Taylor’s voice was deep.
"Irene Spencer has been released."
Kris Cooper raised an eyebrow, "How did that happen so soon?"
"She self-hard twice, and the lawyer provided evidence of schizophrenia. They used public opinion to build montum. The police are under a lot of pressure, Captain Liu held off for three days, but there was nothing more he could do."
"Self-hard?" Kris Cooper sneered, "I can’t believe she’d stoop so low! Have soone keep an eye on her, just in case. I’ll visit Captain Liu tomorrow."
"Alright." Tommy Taylor hung up the phone.
Vera peeked her head out of the bathroom, "Is everything okay?"
"Nothing major." Kris Cooper dropped the phone and walked over, casually shedding his suit jacket, then reached over to open the bathroom door, "Co on, let scrub my wife’s back."
"Who needs you!" Vera turned around, facing away from him, "I’m almost done."
"Don’t be like that!" Kris Cooper tossed his shirt aside, stood behind her, and used his large hands to untangle her long hair sticking to her back, then gently hugged her waist from behind. One hand slid up to rest on her chest, "Hmm... it seems like they’ve grown a bit, at this rate, they won’t be manageable much longer."
