"Are you Luo Xuping’s mother?"
The horoom teacher, nad Yuan Ping, made this family visit rather suddenly.
"No, I’m his sister-in-law. Please wait a mont, I’ll get his parent for you." Beisitian smiled as she invited Yuan Ping to sit down.
Yuan Ping was sowhat surprised. She glanced at Beisitian up and down, then smiled and nodded. Luo Xuping stood beside them, as if he had made a mistake, with his head lowered, not speaking a word.
Beisitian quickly called Luo Anguo over. Knowing it was a teacher visiting, Luo Anguo was very polite.
"Hello, Teacher Yuan, I’m Luo Xuping’s father. Welco to our ho. We didn’t know you were coming, so we weren’t prepared. Please forgive us!" Luo Anguo said cheerfully as he sat down.
Yuan Ping also smiled and said, "This visit was decided last-minute. I apologize for the intrusion, hope you don’t bla ."
"Why would we bla you? We’re more than happy to have you!" Luo Anguo quickly responded.
Beisitian prepared tea and poured it for Yuan Ping, then sat aside.
Yuan Ping sat on the sofa with an elegant deanor, clearly well-educated. She said to Luo Anguo, "Actually, I planned to co earlier, just couldn’t find the ti. Today, I’m here because Xuping got into a fight at school, injuring two classmates. The parents of those two students insist on an explanation. I’m worried that when both sides et, it might escalate into a conflict, so I had to calm things down and coordinate first."
This is one of the reasons teachers dislike making ho visits.
Luo Anguo’s expression slightly changed upon hearing this. In such cases, compensation is usually required. "Teacher Yuan, my child has always been honest, how could he get into a fight?"
Yuan Ping sighed and said, "Xuping is indeed honest, but he’s a bit introverted and doesn’t talk much with classmates, always alone..."
In other words, he’s already isolated by his classmates, or perhaps he’s isolating himself.
Beisitian just realized the problem, not expecting it to be so serious. She frowned slightly but said nothing.
"Regarding this issue, as the horoom teacher, I bear so responsibility. I tried guiding him before, but it seems I haven’t identified the root cause. This led to the idea of a ho visit, though it was never realized until now, which is my oversight."
Yuan Ping began with self-reflection.
By doing this, parents couldn’t easily use it as a pretext for complaining. These days, teachers are treated with respect, and even if Yuan Ping hadn’t said this, no one would have blad her, unless intentionally causing trouble.
Yuan Ping’s actions earned her so goodwill from Beisitian, at least she didn’t overlook Luo Xuping among so many students in the class.
"What caused the fight, and where are those students injured?" Beisitian asked.
Yuan Ping finally heard soone address the real issue and said, "A few children got into a verbal argunt, which eventually escalated into a fight."
Unexpectedly, neither of the two students could overpower Luo Xuping.
Yuan Ping subtly revealed the cause of the argunt. It turned out that those students looked down on Luo Xuping for being from the countryside, calling him out for having rural habits. They said he was less pampered than city kids, a bit tanned, and mainly because of his poor grades, so mischievous boys bullied him in the class.
Luo Xuping often ignored the taunts, so these boys thought he was easy to bully and intensified their harassnt.
One ti, they insulted him by saying he was raised without a mother, which is why his studies were poor!
Luo Xuping couldn’t stand it anymore, at that mont, he took hold of two boys and beat them up while another one managed to escape. By afternoon, the parents were at the school.
After Teacher Yuan Ping was inford, she felt quite troubled. If it was just poor academics, tutoring could help, but with poor character, it’s more problematic. Initially, she thought that way, as teachers generally prefer students with good grades.
Once she understood the entire incident, realizing those students went too far, Yuan Ping quickly comforted the parents and brought Luo Xuping to his ho, hoping his parents would understand and cooperate to resolve the issue.
"The parents of those two students are quite agitated and want to see Luo Xuping’s parents by tomorrow," Yuan Ping said.
Yuan Ping hoped that after a night’s reflection, the other two parents might calm down a bit. That afternoon, the parents of those classmates were very agitated, with one demanding compensation for emotional distress, while the father of another nearly attempted to hit Luo Xuping.
Yuan Ping didn’t say this, but she felt that father was really uncouth. Regardless of whether Luo Xuping was right or wrong, as an adult, you can’t get physical with a child—not when the child is so young.
Moreover, if you really talk about the incident, it was those classmates who went too far. Their words couldn’t be tolerated by anyone with a shred of understanding, yet, in practical terms, since Luo Xuping struck first, he’s in the wrong.
At that ti, two male teachers restrained the other student’s father, while Yuan Ping comforted the situation, gaining so ti.
Yuan Ping understood well that the other two parents were simply bullying Luo Xuping’s family because they were outsiders and the parents themselves were native to Beijing. They felt superior.
Actually, Yuan Ping was also born and raised in the Capital City, but being educated, she never held such thoughts, though she was aware many people did.
"How badly were they hurt?" Beisitian asked.
"Kids fighting; how seriously could they get hurt?" Yuan Ping laughed wryly. The parents were just nitpicking, partly because their children were bullied, facing humiliation, and partly hoping they could get so compensation.
Yuan Ping understood, but there was nothing she could do. Luo Xuping struck first, putting him at a disadvantage.
"Did the parents have any demands?" Beisitian asked again.
"They didn’t explicitly say, only agreed to speak once they t the child’s parents." Yuan Ping gave Beisitian another look. She noticed whenever Luo Xuping’s sister-in-law spoke, his father kept quiet, seemingly listening to his daughter-in-law.
However, Luo Xuping’s sister-in-law appeared to be very clear-minded, speaking logically and asking all the important questions; she seed like a forthright person.
"Thank you, Teacher Yuan. We’ll go over tomorrow, at eight in the morning, right?" Beisitian said with a smile.
Yuan Ping nodded. Having delivered the ssage, it was ti for her to return ho.
"By the way, Teacher Yuan, I want to find a tutor for my brother." As Yuan Ping was about to leave, Beisitian quickly said.
It’s best to ask the teacher.
Yuan Ping smiled, "Since the parents have this intention, I can help find one. However, it seems Xuping hasn’t studied systematically before, so he’s quite lacking."
"That’s alright, thank you, Teacher Yuan." Beisitian expressed her gratitude.
