---

The tunnel twisted and turned, walls scarred by deep gashes and black marks—an unsightly reminder of battles won in the past. With every step ahead, recollections of battles gone by slipped from the background into the distance in the present.

"All these scratches on these walls. reminders of what’s been. I’m leaving my own scratches here now," he reminded himself. "This dash. not really a matter of physical strength. It’s one of testing for myself whether or not I’ve got the drive to go on. no matter the pain. The system is making get used to my ant body."

Finally the system spoke, after an endless stretch of quiet:

[Ding! > SYSTEM SSAGE: "Distance Travelled: 15 km. Daily Mission 1 Accomplished."]

Huff Huff!

Kai took off in a jog, perspiring, if ants perspired—drying gri on his carapace. "Fifteen kilotres... Shucks, that was tougher than I thought," he wheezed, wiping away a tiny drop from his antennae. "But every step makes stronger."

Having completed the run, Kai turned to his second daily routine: using his Tiny Tank ten tis. This power strengthened his exoskeleton for a brief duration at the cost of so aura. But the more he used the skill, the stronger his skeleton beca.

Kai reached a small, empty area in the tunnel—a flat, rock with space to move and practice unencumbered. "Tiny Tank ti," he stated, his voice resonating slightly off the open room.

He activated the ability and was able to feel a temporary, controlled squeeze surrounding his body. "Yes, that’s it," he puffed as he cycled the activation once more. "One. two." He snarled with each activation of the ability. His aura dropped by a significant amount on the system display, but his exoskeleton discharged more energy.

[Ding! SYSTEM SSAGE: Tiny Tank Activation Count: 3/10.]

Between activities, Kai talked to himself, "Keep at it, Kai. Every ti you’re activated, you get stronger. Don’t pay attention to the cost; it’s a price worth paying just to live."

[Ding! SYSTEM SSAGE: Tiny Tank Activation Count: 10/10. Daily Mission 2 Completed.]

Kai took a mont to steady himself, breathing deeply as he observed his reinforced exoskeleton. "I can feel the difference," he said, a note of satisfaction in his voice. "I’m tougher now. Every activation, every boost, makes more resilient."

Having completed two missions, Kai devoted himself to the final daily mission: going to the Graveyard of Ants, the place where he had entered this world and using his Essence Eater on the deceased ants. It was a mission of return; it was coming back to where he ca from, to the dark remains of a life he could not rember, and siphoning power from it.

Kai’s voice softened as he began, "The graveyard... back to where it all began." He set off along a narrow passageway that led deeper into the cave. The atmosphere grew colder, the sll of decay heavier with each step. The graveyard was a vast, desolate area filled with the remains of countless ants—so old, so barely decayed—littering the ground like broken relics of a forgotten era.

He arrived at the edge of the cetery. "This is it," he whispered, his tone half-sorrowing, half-determined. "I have to face my past in order to build my future." It was a strange sight, hills of dead ants, so skeletal, so rotting in various stages, covered with strange, glowing mushrooms that threw macabre shadows to caper around.

Kai narrowed his eyes and triggered his Essence Eater ability with a gentle order: "Essence Eater, on!" His mandibles glowed dark and churned as the system reported successful activation.

[Ding! SYSTEM SSAGE: Extracting essence fluid from the dead ants.]

Kai walked up to one of the massive, unbroken ant corpses. "Co on, prove your strength," he taunted the dead bug, his voice echoing across the frozen cetery. He slowed down on purpose, biting down into the putrid flesh, and a black, iridescent essence fluid began dripping, a sticky, syrupy fluid filled with sulfurous energy.

Kai’s eyes widened as he felt the surge of power. "I can feel it. every drop makes stronger," he murmured, almost reverently. "Yes, that’s it... extract it all." He continued feeding until the system displayed:

[Ding! SYSTEM SSAGE: All the Essence of the dead ants successfully absorbed.]

Almost imdiately, another notification flashed:

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: STAT POINTS Awarded: 15 from Essence Liquid.

Daily Mission 3 Completed. 30 exp rewarded]

Kai’s mandibles snapped together in wonder and joy. "Fifteen stat points... That’s what I call a reward!" he thundered, his voice increasing in strength with each syllable.

Once Kai completed the final of the daily quests, the system window announced his new status, an electronic badge of honor on his hard-won efforts:

He grumbled to himself, "I’ve crawled through these tunnels, fought my way, and even back all the way to the ant cetery. All that pain was worth it. No longer am I a lost ant, but a killer of this underground world, and I am making my own history."

"He He He He!"

He stopped, looking down the black hallway. "I need to exit this ant cave when it opens," he complained to himself. "The tir, and wave of the ant trail isn’t opened yet. I need to work."

Kai stood at the end of a narrow alleyway, his antennae twitching as he looked down the black passageway before him. "Today was a good day," he breathed on a sigh, there being a contemplative quality to his tone.
