She stopped. Her antennae lowered. "So... I choose yes. We will join you."

Kai didn’t answer right away. Instead, he walked forward slowly, stopped within inches of her.

"You understand what that ans?"

She nodded. "We will not return to the old and destroyed kingdom. Our ties to the Crimson kingdom are broken. There was nobody left alive for us to return. We will fight with you now. One day, we hope you help us rebuild our people."

A beat.

"Then I welco you all with open arms," Kai said.

And she nods, "Thank you."

[Ding! System notifications- Luster’s Mark: Akayoroi. Impression 6 (total 60). ]

Her mandibles clicked together once. "For the forty-one," she whispered. "For the future."

Kai placed one hand on her crown. A faint pulse of Monarch energy flowed through his palm into her crest.

Kai winced and said to the system, "You didn’t have to add that last part."

The system stayed quiet.

Akayoroi rose slowly, gaze steady. "Then... shall I spread the word?"

He nodded. "Tell them. After two dawns, we begin our march. We move to the east. Pack what you need. We might need stretchers for the wounded if they can’t continue the journey and watchers for night beasts."

Akayoroi nodded. "My sisters will be ready." She hesitated, eyes flicking to him. "And... Kai, you gave us hope again."

Kai looked toward the horizon. The first stars glimred fainty. "Hope is a tool. We wield it, or we lose it."

Azhara popped up from behind, ears twitching. "Group hug?"

"No," Kai said, but a faint curve touched one corner of his mouth.

As Akayoroi walked away to inform the others, Kai stepped back toward the chamber edge. He looked at her with prideful eyes.

The wind picked up. Sowhere, beyond forest and fire, generals marched. But here, beneath the earth, a new hive stirred. Sothing destined to shake the world.

That night, while ants gathered supplies and Azhara set snares for swamp ferrets, Kai walked alone near Akayoroi chamber . He leaned against the cold wall. His eyes scanned the dark canopy. The air slled of wet moss and distant perfu of her.

A new journey east awaited—two weeks through an untad forest, escorting wounded warriors and a queen with fire in her heart. He wanted to discuss sothing with her. Ask her if she got a map or important information about the sea.

The tunnels echoed with the steady pulse of Kai’s steps, each claw like foot pressing into the humid earth with purpose. A few step further torch lichen along the walls emitted soft amber light, revealing the quiet chambers carved beneath the roots of the old forest canopy.

Without warning, his body erupted in a flicker of lightless fire—no blaze, no roar, just a violent compression of air that cracked the walls. His spine arched as plates realigned and cracked outward, taller now, broader, shadows dancing off newly-sharpened edges. The earth beneath him trembled. In the breath between monts, Kai transford fully, brutally—into his Apex Form.

His obsidian-chitin plated, limbs bristling with power— filled the space as he descended into the nesting hollow. He was no longer the scurrying worker who once hid in shadows.

[Ding! SYSTEM NOTIFICATION-

Kai’s antennae twitched.

The tunnel path opened into a heart shaped chamber, walled with soft soil and woven root thread. At the center stood the Ant Queen Akayoroi. Her black red chitin glead like polished obsidian under the lichen light, molded perfectly to the curves of her powerful form. She turned slowly, her long blonde hair swaying like silk, her crimson eyes already fixed on him.

"...You ca," she whispered, her voice like the chi of a crystal hitting bone. Soft. Royal. A little uncertain.

"I wanted to talk with you about sothing but suddenly I felt your scent," Kai replied, stepping forward, his deep voice altered through his hardened carapace. "It pulled . What’s going on?"

Her antennae perked at his words, but sothing deeper flickered in her eyes. It was an ancestral resonance, old and sacred. She stepped forward, just enough that their auras brushed, just enough that the warmth of her breath reached his mandibles.

"I must confess sothing," she said softly, her voice neither shy nor proud—but final, like a vow written in blood and silk. "I activated sothing..."

Kai tilted his head. Her pheromones were different now. It was calr, warr... heavier.

Akayoroi’s mandibles parted slightly, her body shivering in lust. "I released my breeding scent. It can be used only once in a Royal Ant’s lifeti. Only once."

His eyes widened—not out of fear, but with the stillness of one who recognized the weight of a ritual.

"That scent," she continued, "marks the queen as a vessel. It ans I have chosen my future. My colony. My... mate."

She lifted her chin, regal but vulnerable. "By joining your mountain, I have surrendered my right to choose again. My pheromones now carry the seal of submission—to your scent, to your body. It is not servitude. It is... symbiosis."

Kai didn’t speak at first.

Wind drifted through the open canopy above. A few glowing spores swirled between them like drifting stars.

He stepped closer, gaze unblinking. "You chose . I am glad about that, But you just lost your sisters... Are you sure about that? Or is it a grief decision?"

She gave a dry, cracked laugh. "You think I did it because of the loss? No, Kai. I did it because I had to..."
