---

"Silvershadow. I want a trap pit from the foothills to the western arches. No farther than five kiloters. We do not reveal range. You will place silent marks at choke points and map wind behavior on the approach paths. I want a layered reading of footfall patterns long before they can sll the stone. No engagents. No contact. If you are seen, you failed."

The scout bowed his head. "Understood."

"Shadeclaw."

His blades unfolded a finger’s width, a nod in steel.

"You will seed the outer gullies with traps that will not look like traps to trained eyes. Deadfall shelves. Sand slides anchored into release carves. If we must break a formation, I want to break it on our slope, where their lines stumble and ours rise. Hidden only. No blatant pits. If they co as guests, I do not want them to feel insulted by a field of bear holes."

Shadeclaw’s voice was quiet. "They will not see them. We will."

"Skyweaver."

She shifted from the vent, eyes bright.

"You own the sky layers with Alka. Pattern a patrol ring at staggered heights, dawn and dusk emphasis. Watch for dust banners, reflective flashes, any signal mirrors. If they send fliers, I want to know their ceiling and turn rate before they taste our wind."

Alka clicked her beak once. That ant yes. Skyweaver dipped her head. "We will fly."

"Vexor. Shale. Flint. Needle."

Four grins. Four sharp nods.

"You will build the bones of a welcoming hall outside our main gate. I want a stone face with two corridors behind it. One corridor leads to a neutral reception chamber. The other corridor, identical to the first, leads to a kill chamber with ceiling vents, resin sluices, and crossfire lanes. All signs of difference must be hidden. If they co as guests, they rest in the first room. If they step wrong, they rest in the second room forever."

Vexor slapped a hand to his chest and then pointed the sa hand at Needle. "We will make it so beautiful that we will not know which door leads to death."

"Good," Kai said dryly. "Do not confuse yourselves."

Needle leaned forward. "Do you want inscriptions?"

"Later. For now, stone."

"Akayoroi."

She inclined her head with the grace of a queen accepting a duty rather than a command.

"Your other sisters will not be shown as a parade. I want disciplined lines ready to present if needed. Drill them on silent formation changes. Practice bow, turn, withdraw. Eyes forward. No smiles. No whispers. We are not a circus."

"Understood," she said, then glanced once at the won on the upper ledge and back. "I will brief them myself."

"Lirien."

She hugged her tool roll almost reflexively. Her voice tried for steady and landed sowhere near brave.

"Yes."

"You will take the forge I raised on the east face and make it breathe. Choose the twins, they can hold a hamr without flirting with it. I want a batch of spade shields, so hook spears, and so collapsible carts with reinforced axles. Then you pivot to fittings. Quiet work. No showers of sparks that can be seen from the ridge."

Lirien nodded, more to herself than to him. "I will start tonight."

"Azhara. Vel. Sha. Naaro."

Four different kinds of eyes snapped to him at once.

"You will train together. Not for show. For purpose. I want each pair to have a two person intercept drill. Azhara anchors or distracts. Vel punishes openings. Sha covers flanks with speed and stun. Naaro secures, disarms, and binds if needed. No teasing. No showboating. If we must host a second layer behind the reception, you four will beco the last thing anyone sees before they leave politely."

Azhara’s smile flickered into sothing more serious. Vel straightened, the old soldier’s line returning to her spine. Sha’s ears flattened in concentration. Naaro looked at her cactus and whispered, We will practice tying knots. The cactus did not comnt.

"Luna."

She had not moved since she joined him. Now she lifted her chin a fraction, eyes steady.

"You will help decide what we show and what we hide. You will stand at my side if we must receive them. Your voice will be the soft one that reminds them that this is a ho. My voice will be the hard one that reminds them that hos have doors that close."

A small smile touched the corner of her mouth. "As you wish."

"Alka."

The raptor clicked again.

"If you sll archers or see crossbows, you fly higher than they can dream. You are precious. We do not trade feathers for pride."

Alka’s eyes shimred. That ant she understood and disliked being called precious. She would accept it.

Kai let the silence gather. The steady hum of the egg chamber felt like a second heartbeat to him. Then he lifted his hand and called the system into his mind.

"System, start mapping projection. Overlay full mountain with corridor lines, recent carve work, and the new egg chamber. Mark all spaces safe to present to outsiders. Mark all spaces that must not be shown."

The blueprint unfolded behind his eyes. The main galleries glowed a calm white. The forge face, the neutral reception shell, the training alcove, and the upper overlook platform ticked green. The egg chamber flared red. The brood-side galleries shifted red. His private stores shifted red. The glider shaft for Skyweaver and Alka’s roost pulsed yellow.

He spoke without opening his eyes. "There will be two flows. The first flow is the guest path. Gate, neutral hall, reception. The second flow is the mistake path. Gate, mirror hall, silence."

Silvershadow’s voice was a low brush against the air. "When do you want the scouting to start?"

"Now. Two rings tonight. One ring again before dawn. Sleep in between. Don’t chase beauties."

Shadeclaw tilted his head in a gesture that qualified as humor from him. "He worries."

"I manage assets," Kai said, and the room exhaled a small ripple of amusent that helped reset everyone’s shoulders.
