Chapter 93. Subjugation of the Cannibal Seaborn

Revulsion.

Yul felt revulsion at the thought of a Seaborn devouring another Seaborn.

He did not know the reason.

Originally, sea creatures lived by devouring one another, so shouldn’t that be natural?

‘But ever since the gem was embedded in my forehead, it feels like sothing has ford regarding the Seaborn. Perhaps dignity.’

To give a similar example, there was the concept of innate human rights. He sensed sothing like that from other Seaborn, without reason.

And Yul accepted it quite naturally.

-The Great Mother is not bound by the rules of the Aeons but by the rules of the Deep Sea. She does not wear a leash like you do.

At that mont, the words of that self-proclaid brother who had died suddenly ca to mind.

In exchange for gaining skills and abilities through Communion, did one begin to feel such sensations within the sa circle of Seaborn?

‘These concepts, too, are leashes created by the Aeons.’

He could not tell whether that was good or bad. Feeling dignity from another individual seed like the right thing, yet the fact that it had been granted by the Aeons unsettled him.

Yul accepted the mission from Lui to eliminate the cannibal Seaborn.

There was the reward Lui had offered, but he also wanted to witness that cannibal Seaborn himself.

There was no need to go straight away, and Yul arranged to et Martin Ferrand near the coast.

Though it had been so ti since he last saw him, Martin Ferrand looked healthy.

“Ah, you have arrived, Count of Provence.”

“It’s been a while. You can speak comfortably and just call Yul.”

“I am more at ease this way.”

“But you look fine. Aren’t you busy?”

“Moderate exercise becos the driving force that lets one endure. In any case, welco. Let introduce the subjugation force.”

Martin gestured toward the harbor near the coast.

“The tracking Seaborns have already located Padur’s position. And one ship is prepared.”

“Understood. How many are in the subjugation force?”

“Five Sinkers. And with you joining, that makes one Seaborn.”

“Is that enough? What about soldiers?”

“When facing a Seaborn, soldiers are of little use. Even if we fire cannons, hitting it is close to plucking a star from the sky.”

"What about mages or knights?"

“On the sea……”

“I see.”

“We have put out word for mages who use ice magic. If this subjugation fails, several ice mages and knights will join then.”

It seed Martin had prepared additional plans as well.

“That won’t be necessary. I’ll settle it this ti.”

“That is reassuring to hear. Understood. Once confird, the success reward will be deposited into your account.”

Yul boarded the ship prepared for the subjugation force.

An ordinary sailing vessel. He did not even rember its na. The crew was visibly tense, and the Sinkers had brought their Seaborns with them.

Most were ard with pistols and swords, all wearing blue tricorne hats and musketeer attire.

“Who is that?”

“They are Sinkers from Aragon. They use the sa type of Seaborn.”

Looking to the side, he saw four enormous sea crocodiles. It seed each had established Communion with one.

Martin stepped forward and shouted.

“This gentleman is the Count of Provence! And he is also a Seaborn.”

“Hm? A Seaborn?”

“……HaHaha. What kind of Seaborn is a Count?"

“What a joke. Then I suppose my Kosun here is a count as well!”

At that mont, Yul slightly lifted his bangs to reveal the gem. The laughter of the Sinkers ceased.

“This gentleman does not move passively like other Seaborns. He acts with initiative. And do not forget that he is a count. He is not soone you may mock, given your status.”

Their captain stepped forward. A bearded man removed his hat and bowed his head.

“My apologies, Count. My n are a rough lot.”

“Adjutant Hernando, now that you understand, see that you attend to him properly. Once the tracking is complete, this gentleman will finish off that cannibal Seaborn.”

“This gentleman?”

“Indeed. He is concealing his true form, one beyond your imagination.”

Martin seed quite skilled at embellishing. After only a few words from him, the musketeers noticeably beca more respectful.

“Then I wish you good fortune.”

Martin disembarked from the ship, and soon the call to set sail was heard.

* * *

Yul stood at the railing, gazing across the wide horizon.

It was not his first ti boarding a ship and sailing in a human body, yet he still could not quite grow accustod to it.

“I heard there was so disorder while I was away. My apologies.”

A new musketeer appeared beside Yul. She seed to be the commander of the four he had seen earlier.

When he turned his head, he saw a beauty with blonde hair and blue eyes. Like the others, she wore four pistols at her waist and was ard with a rapier.

"Who are you?"

“Nornier de la Vega. I am a junior baron and serve as the deputy commander of the Marsh Musketeers.”

“Marsh?”

“Hehe. You notice the oddest details. The Marsh Musketeers have long been a traditional musketeer unit of Aragon.”

“Why are Aragon’s musketeers working here?”

“Musketeer units are sotis rged or left in ambiguous positions for various reasons. And since the ergence of the Seaborn, circumstances have changed, so we took up rcenary work as well. It's thanks to those friends.”

In the distance, a blue-skinned sea crocodile was watching Yul. That one was missing an eye.

‘It’s been a while since I’ve seen one that looks this formidable.’

It was larger than the other sea crocodiles and covered in scars.

“According to Gordon, you are no ordinary Seaborn.”

It seed their level of Communion was higher than expected. Could she even converse with her Seaborn? The distant Gordon sent Yul a magic signal.

-Is that not so, the living remnant of myth?

-……

Without responding, Yul spoke to Nornier.

"Let's just say that's the case."

“I look forward to working with you.”

Nornier removed her hat and bowed lightly, then kicked each of her subordinates at the waist in turn.

They bowed hurriedly, watching their expressions, and returned to their positions.

-A heroine, is she?

-Krrh. Indeed. That is why I chose her.

-You chose her?

-Yes. We are sea crocodiles who travel between the river and the sea. When I first saw Nornier, she was on a boat by the river. Five n larger than her rushed at her, yet she showed no fear and stabbed them down one by one with her blade.

-Oh ho.

-So I took a liking to her and chose her. Only the brave are chosen by , Gordon. And my subordinates each selected one of the musketeers as well.

The story of Gordon and Nornier was rather interesting. Though the Seaborn appeared passive, there were reasons they chose their partners.

While speaking with Gordon, the ship had already sailed far into the open sea. The land was no longer visible.

-So how do you track that cannibal Seaborn?

-The scent of blood. Its flank is always bleeding.

-Why?

-Ask Norn. We are beginning the hunt now.

Gordon imdiately dove beneath the surface, swiftly moving away from the ship.

Watching this, Yul approached Nornier and asked,

“Hey, did you say your na was Nornier? How are they tracking it? I heard sothing about the sll of blood.”

“Please call Norn, Count of Provence. The cannibal Seaborn was struck earlier by Ninety’s buckshot. It will bleed for three days and nights.”

“Ninety’s buckshot?”

“A weapon used by traditional vampire hunters.”

Nornier swept aside her cloak and drew the weapon strapped behind her waist.

It was a large blunderbuss with multiple openings, its muzzle widening not smoothly but in angular flares.

“Doesn’t look like there are ninety barrels.”

“The blacksmith who crafts this shotgun is called ‘Ninety.’ He claims he stopped counting his age after ninety. A rare lifespan for a human, perhaps he has elf blood among his ancestors.”

“A weapon made to hunt vampires?”

“Yes. It causes vampires, who endlessly crave blood, to bleed endlessly in return for their sins. Of course, the bleeding effect is also useful when dealing with massive monsters.”

“Oh ho.”

Was this the source of the musketeers’ confidence? Buckshot that caused endless bleeding.

‘Is the magic cast on the gun so the bullets are automatically enchanted?’

Normally, magic would not transfer across different objects. He grew curious about its structure.

-Here!

“I sll blood! Hernando!”

As soon as Norn shouted, Hernando, who appeared to be her adjutant, rushed over.

“There is Seagull Island ahead, newly ford after the Great Catastrophe.”

“Prepare for battle! Captain, please!”

“Understood!”

The captain nodded and turned the wheel, adjusting their course.

As soon as they reached the island teeming with seagulls, everyone disembarked.

Nornier glanced at Yul briefly and bowed her head.

“My apologies, Count of Provence, but we will capture and finish it ourselves!”

“Oh!”

“Let’s go!”

Yul folded his arms and watched from a distance. Lui had asked him to subjugate the cannibal Seaborn.

In the end, whoever killed it, the one thousand ducats would still co in, so he did not particularly care about claiming the credit.

The musketeers at the front mounted their sea crocodiles and moved swiftly across the water’s surface.

Each of them held a 'Ninety's Buckshot' in their hands.

They quickly located Padur upon the sea.

“There!”

"What's with that size!?"

The dugong he had seen before had grown to six ters in length. The gem on its head was gone.

The tips of its tusks beneath its mouth jutted like morningstars, and its once-smooth skin was pockmarked all over.

-KRAAAAAAAAH!

Then ca the roar.

“Ugh!”

“My ears!”

“A dugong roars?”

“A skill?”

“Get a hold of yourselves, idiots! I’ll draw it in.”

While Norn and Gordon lured Padur from the front, the subordinates fired buckshot into its flank.

‘Not as much damage as I expected.’

Yul observed that the holes in Padur’s side were not particularly large.

Yet the damage was accumulating, and blood continued to flow from the wounds.

With swift maneuvers and pistol fire, Norn kept drawing Padur’s attention, while her subordinates struck its flank with buckshot whenever they found an opening.

Then light flared across Padur’s entire body. Seawater surged upward, absorbing the bullets.

“A wave barrier!”

“That’s a skill! It doesn’t even have a Sinker. How has it been using skills this whole ti?”

One musketeer shouted as he thrust his aura-infused rapier into the wave barrier, tearing it apart.

Behind him, another shoved his blunderbuss forward, fired, then leapt onto another crocodile to reposition.

“Gordon is waiting below to prevent it from diving!”

Norn swiftly mounted Adjutant Hernando’s crocodile and shouted.

“Keep pressing!”

“Yes!”

The musketeers nimbly switched between crocodiles, toying with Padur upon the surface. They were clearly highly skilled.

Accumulated damage spread blood across the sea.

“We almost have it! Finish it, and there’s a reward of one thousand ducats!”

“Uooh!!”

“Stay sharp until the end!”

Padur’s movents had noticeably slowed. The morale of the musketeers, who were unleashing relentless attacks, visibly rose.

Just as Yul thought they might win without his intervention—

It emitted a magic signal.

-Foolish toys bound in chains.

Padur’s bloodied body suddenly split open, though no one had touched it.

Its outer shell tore vertically from head to tail, revealing what lay beneath.

An enormous quantity of blood was dispersed into the sea.

What erged was a grotesque form beyond description. It had arms, it had legs, it had tentacles, it had a tail, it had a flank, and it had a rotting human.

-Worship the Deep Sea and answer the call.

A vicious voice resounded, and sothing bizarre began to happen.

Crunch. Craaaaack

With sounds that should never be heard, screams and dying magic signals echoed.

“Ghaaaah! Ghaaaah!”

One musketeer raised his pistol to fire, but his arm was crushed as if seized by sothing invisible, bone and flesh bursting outward.

-Worship the King of the Deep Sea.
