Chapter 96. The Kraken
Goooooooh───
Yul spread the presence he had been concealing.
He opened his divinity and looked down below. The Kraken’s location was clearly visible.
The mont Yul’s presence spread, the Kraken withdrew its legs from all the ships.
All the sea elves stopped what they were doing and looked up at the sky.
From there, a gigantic sea creature with six eyes descended, its flowing fins swaying as it ca down.
A pair of eyes belonging to the Deep King Tribe shone.
「Sea-Sync Demon Eye」
As soon as Yul descended from the sky, the sea that had been violently tossing from the storm began to calm.
As though it were a windless zone where nothing existed, even the fiercely crashing waves fell still and slumbered peacefully beneath the torrential rain.
The sea elves who witnessed this imnse miracle all held their breath.
Beholding the Deep King Tribe floating nobly above the stilled sea surface, none of the elves could tear their eyes away.
“God?”
Soone muttered that. The gunner who had been reloading the cannon, the sailors who had been hauling the sails with all their might, even the captains—all were overwheld by Yul’s form.
In the strange silence, the only sound that could be heard was the fierce rain pouring down from the sky.
Through his divinity, Yul examined the form of the Kraken flickering beneath the sea surface.
He saw the massive sapphire gem embedded in its forehead. From its size, he understood.
‘Legendary rank?’
A creature born at Legendary rank would be sealed and unable to move, so that creature must have evolved from Unique rank.
‘It raised its rank at an abnormally fast rate…….’
How did it do that?
There was a rank difference, but ever since Madness had changed into a skill, it no longer activated automatically.
It would be best if this could be resolved through dialogue first, but would that be possible? Yul sent a magic signal to the Kraken.
-Leave.
-Hand over that ship.
-I can’t do that. From now on, this is my territory.
-Then die.
This one reaches conclusions incredibly fast.
After the brief exchange, the Kraken turned aggressive and fired its massive legs like arrows.
Through flight, Yul instantly evaded the legs that shot up above the sea surface like bullets.
As if teleporting, Yul avoided the tentacles and activated the 「Sea-Sync Demon Eye」 a second ti.
He ford a vortex beneath the sea surface, creating a whirlpool below.
At the sa ti, he kept the area around the sailing ships calm so that they would not suffer any damage.
Since he was affecting an enormously wide area, the magic consumption was great.
He would not be able to maintain it for long. But there was no need to.
The waters around here lay along the continental shelf. The seabed itself was not deep.
Just shallow enough to fit exactly one Kraken.
A massive vortex ford, and a whirlpool spread beneath the sea surface.
To avoid being swept away by the current, the Kraken latched its tentacle suckers onto the massive rocks along the seabed.
Part of the Kraken’s body was exposed to the enormous vortex and began to show slightly above. It was enduring better than expected.
‘I never intended to eliminate it with the whirlpool anyway.’
From the very beginning to the end, the only plan was to feed it this weapon.
He took out the UV Thermal Gun he had found at his base. A weapon obtained through a deal with aliens.
It was said to draw magic from the Origin Nexus, but no such channel was open to Yul.
Instead, he simply extracted the magic from his main body and forced it in.
Whrrring.
The sound of charging with overwhelming magical output. If this much magic were forced into an ordinary object, it would fail to maintain its form and explode, but the UV Thermal Gun did not budge.
-What!?
The Kraken noticed the flow of magic and was startled, but it had no ti to react.
Zzzzzzzzt!
An imnse light engulfed everything before his eyes. The UV Thermal Gun fired toward the Kraken’s upper body, which was slightly exposed by the whirlpool.
The magic beam shot directly into the Kraken’s body, boiling the sea and causing an enormous surge of bubbles to erupt upward.
-Kuaaaaaaak!
Yul confird that the Kraken fled at terrifying speed.
‘Did I fail to catch it?’
The damage amounted to six massive legs being severed into pieces.
The mont the thermal gun’s beam was fired, it had twisted its tentacles together and gathered them, defending its torso—the vital area—from the attack.
Golden-browned chunks of octopus leg floated up onto the sea surface.
He retrieved the thermal gun and halted the whirlpool. Artificially creating such a current consud an imnse amount of magic.
‘I used too much magic.’
The Kraken’s suction cups had looked dangerous, so instead of close combat, he had chosen to pour magic into the fight—and experienced his strength draining all at once.
Of course, he did not show it outwardly at all. Floating as if drifting, he flew toward the sea elves.
The mont they saw Yul, the sea elves lowered their heads.
Sothing inside his chest felt ticklish. In that instant, he realized the nature of this emotion.
This was ‘reverence.’
Through his divinity, Yul was receiving their worship. Digging a little deeper, he discovered a certain longing within them.
That longing stimulated sothing deep within his chest. This feeling was not unpleasant. It might even be good.
“O God…….”
“The God of the Tranquil Waves has descended…….”
“We offer all that we have.”
Hovering above their heads, Yul parted the raindrops and redirected the tranquil sea current toward the Island of Boundaries.
They had likely been heading toward the Island of Boundaries in the first place.
“Th-the ship is moving?”
“A-Admiral?”
“We’re heading where we intended to go…….”
“I can see the Island of Boundaries!!”
“It was true. The God of the Tranquil Waves protects the island!”
As the ships erged from the edge of the storm and safely reached the shore, Aranmas, the village chief, ca running out in a fluster from inside, led by the sea elves who had been watching from outside.
“Oh! The ssage we sent has arrived together with Lord Yul!”
Yul slightly concealed his presence, then used Polymorph and put on the human clothes he had been keeping attached to his back with Telekinesis. Being soaked in the rain felt unpleasant.
‘This won’t do. It’s still more convenient to use the Abyssal Polyhedron.’
He sorely missed the internal storage space inside the Abyssal Polyhedron. It contained too many functions to simply avoid using it because it felt ominous.
‘I’ll have to find a way to uncover the true nature of the Abyssal Polyhedron later.’
Since he had lost the Great Balance magic and the mantras he once possessed, he was truly lacking in areas like this. He would need to find ways to compensate for that as well.
“Aranmas! Have you put on so weight? Seems island life suits you.”
“You are…… Admiral Shillenwe Arkatil? Could it be that you were ‘Rejected’ as well?”
“That’s how it turned out.”
“This can’t be…….”
As Aranmas expressed his shock, Shillenwe crossed her arms and spoke.
“The Rejection phenonon is occurring far too often among the sea elves. The captains of the wing ships who were supposed to resolve our problem are all out of their minds. There are hardly any islands willing to accept sea elves who’ve been Rejected, but when I heard there was an elf who had received your letter, we set sail without any guarantee.”
“Yes. I sent letters everywhere.”
For so reason, the older Aranmas was speaking politely instead.
Yul stepped between them and asked,
“Where did that Kraken co from?”
“A human? Who are you……. Ah, could it be that you are the Deep King Tribe who transford?”
“Yes. That’s .”
“Th-thank you. It is thanks to your help that our fleet arrived safely at this island.”
When Yul nodded, Shillenwe’s expression wavered slightly.
“Th-then, ahem, to answer your question, the Kraken began attacking us at so point. An unannounced storm ford in the sky, and beneath the sea surface, the Kraken appeared. Our fleet originally had four ships, but one disappeared during the Kraken’s previous assault.”
‘Maybe I should’ve crushed it a bit more.’
To think it attacked his precious people. It was regrettable that he had not eradicated it entirely.
“W-we have co to this island in hopes of living here, O Lord of the Island.”
“You may call Yul. If you acknowledge my dominion and work for , I will permit you to live here.”
“We will. Thank you.”
Yul could feel Shillenwe’s heartbeat pounding. The calm and bold admiral was unexpectedly tense.
“Is there, perhaps, anything you would have us do?”
“Ah. Yes. First, collect that.”
Yul pointed toward the sea surface. Everyone’s gaze followed.
There, golden-browned octopus legs were being pushed by the waves and drifting toward the shore.
“It’s food.”
* * *
After the cleanup was finished, Yul was served tea in Aranmas’s tent. The key figures had gathered there.
Shillenwe Arkatil.
Though she looked young, she was said to be older than Aranmas. Even among elves of the sa kind, differences in the rate of aging depended on which lineage lay at the origin of their blood.
“I inherited the blood of a High Elf. My grandmother was one of them.”
“Do High Elves live long?”
“Yes. More than two thousand years. In truth, there isn’t an elf who knows exactly. No one has ever heard of a High Elf dying of natural causes. Isn’t that right, Aranmas?”
“Yes. I don’t believe I’ve heard of it either.”
Yul grew curious about the situation of the sea elves.
What he currently knew was that they wandered upon the sea, and that the captains of the wing ships were the rulers of each sea.
But he had received no updates regarding the situation after the Heaven and Earth Resonance.
“What do you an by not being able to trust the captains of the wing ships?”
“After Heaven and Earth Resonance, strange changes occurred in each captain. So lost their sanity, so went missing or were injured and fell into comas. The few captains who remain sound are firing cannons at one another over power struggles.”
And in the midst of that, those rejected by the sea began to appear little by little.
“The captains of the wing ships pay no attention at all to those who have been Rejected. Only admirals of our rank were at least aware of them.”
For the sea elves, who lived on ships and died on ships, the need for a fixed base had arisen.
“Where do admirals stand within sea elf society?”
Aranmas, who had been listening beside them, answered.
“Directly below the captains of the wing ships.”
If the captains of the wing ships stood at the very peak of sea elf society, then admirals were the rank just beneath them. They commanded multiple ships and set the course forward.
“Originally, the High Elf Guides were equal in rank to the captains of the wing ships, but after the sea elves settled in the Archipelago Ocean, they all vanished without a trace…….”
“Guides?”
“Yes. They are like a myth to us.”
The High Elf Guides were said to have led the sea elves from a distant sea in the far past to the Archipelago Ocean.
Because resources could be obtained from the nurous islands and there were no enemies in the surrounding seas, the sea elves all settled in the Archipelago Ocean.
And after leaving the sea elves there, the Guides disappeared.
“I see. Let us leave the old stories at that. Do you intend to settle on this island from now on?”
“Yes.”
“Then I shall explain what you will be doing.”
