Aunt Liu looked quite awkward at this, unsure how to explain.

Fourth Granny was extrely wary. ’Stepmothers are rarely the loving type.’

"Aunt Liu, where will Fourth Granny and I be staying tonight?" Ye Qianning asked, breaking the awkward silence.

Upon hearing her, Aunt Liu quickly called for a maid. "Chunxi, please take the Eldest Young Miss to the West Wing to rest."

"Yes." Chunxi stepped forward. "Eldest Young Miss, please follow ."

Fourth Granny pulled Ye Qianning out the door, glancing back at Aunt Liu as they left.

"Madam, how can that old woman be so rude?" Chunyi complained, displeased.

"Say no more," Aunt Liu chided.

Chunyi pouted, still indignant.

Once the pair entered the West Wing and closed the door, Fourth Granny let out a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but say, "Pangtuan, I don’t think your father is a very good man."

"What’s wrong?" Ye Qianning asked, seeing that she was seething.

"He has a wife and so many concubines. There must be a lot of children in this manor. How can I possibly go back to Nanyuan and leave you here in peace?" Fourth Granny’s face was etched with worry.

She had originally planned to co to Beili, help Pangtuan find her father and get settled, and then return to Nanyuan. But now, how could she rest easy?

"Fourth Granny, you’re overthinking things. I’m Father’s only daughter. He’s a very good man. You’ll understand once you et him."

"Just you?" Fourth Granny asked in surprise.

"Yes. They say Father was injured on the battlefield and can’t have any more children," Ye Qianning explained.

"Tsk, so that’s how it is. The poor man. Well, in that case, I’m not so worried about those concubines anymore."

’Ye Qianning hadn’t yet investigated the backgrounds of the concubines and Aunt Liu. It was too soon to say whether they were good people or not.’

As night fell, Aunt Liu personally delivered their dinner and chatted with Fourth Granny for a while. By the ti she left, Fourth Granny’s attitude toward her had softened considerably.

Ye Qianning had the flying insects summon the small animals that were long-term residents of the manor so she could inquire about the situation. Later that night, as she was resting, she discovered another change within her space.

’Her Fortune Value had risen to twenty-five. She had even gained Fortune Value just by moving into the General’s manor. This ant that Xiang Minghou’s affection for her was genuine; it ca from the heart, which was why it had triggered the Fortune Value in her space.’

At the sa ti, seven or eight different kinds of seeds appeared in her space, which made her ecstatic.

The booklet described them as various fruits, all with properties that could strengthen the body and prevent illness. She sowed a few of each kind of seed, knowing they would be ready to harvest by morning.

By the ti she finished her work, it was late into the night. Outside her window, a chubby weasel had been waiting for quite so ti.

Ye Qianning opened the window, and the weasel scurried inside with a single bound.

"They said you can understand our language." The weasel circled the room before stopping in front of Ye Qianning.

"I can," Ye Qianning confird with a nod.

The weasel’s interest was instantly piqued. It stood up on its hind legs. "You can really understand? This is incredible!"

"How long have you lived in the General’s manor?" Ye Qianning asked. It looked quite mature. ’Weasels can live for several decades.’

"This place wasn’t the General’s manor when I first got here," the weasel said. "It was turned into the General’s manor several years later, and a lot of people moved in."

"Are you familiar with the people here in the manor?"

"Of course! I’ve got more sons and grandsons than I can count, and they’re in every single courtyard. No animal knows the people in this manor better than we do," the weasel said with confidence.

’Ye Qianning had definitely co to the right place. The weasel was part of a large clan, which was perfect.’

The weasel told her everything it knew. Then, it called over its sons and grandsons, who took turns explaining all the manor’s affairs and its residents. Not a single important person was missed.

They talked until the rooster crowed. Finally, the weasel hopped onto the table and began lapping up water, GULP GULP GULP.
