At the headquarters of Beige dia Corporation, Gu Yurou arrived, her heart brimming with nervous excitent.

She was a sophomore majoring in literature with a passion for scriptwriting. In her spare ti between classes, she managed to complete a screenplay—her very first—and, holding onto a tiny sliver of hope, she had submitted it to Beige dia, never expecting anything to co of it.

But then ca the call.

The ssage was like a dream. The president of Beige dia himself had taken a liking to her script and was willing to purchase it at a high price.

For a university student with no industry background, it was surreal. Too good to be true, almost. But this was Beige dia, a corporation valued in the billions. A titan in the entertainnt industry. Scamming soone with a fake script deal was far beneath them, or so she believed.

So, clinging to cautious optimism, Gu Yurou took advantage of an evening with no classes and made her way to the company’s downtown headquarters, planning to et the president in person to negotiate the sale.

By the ti she arrived, most employees had already left for the day, leaving only a few lights on across the building’s expansive floors where staff worked overti. She stepped into the spacious lobby, only to find the reception desk unmanned. No one was around to ask for directions to the president’s office.

Just then, the elevator doors opened, and a woman stepped out. Heavy makeup, designer heels, and a presence that radiated cara-ready confidence—Gu Yurou instantly recognized her.

Without thinking, she rushed forward, her voice rising slightly with excitent. “Excuse , hi! Could you tell where the president’s office is?”

But halfway through the sentence, she caught a clear look at the woman’s face—and her eyes widened in shock. “Wait… aren’t you Yu Fei? You’re Yu Fei, right?! I love your films—can I get an autograph?”

Yu Fei’s posture was elegant and cold, the type of aloof beauty that knew her worth. She’d been about to grant the autograph with casual magnanimity. But the mont she saw Gu Yurou’s face, her gaze flickered with sothing else entirely.

The girl was prettier. Undeniably, effortlessly prettier.

An inexplicable jealousy welled up inside her. Her smile vanished.

“No ti,” she said flatly, brushing past Gu Yurou and intentionally or not bumping into her shoulder with enough force to sting.

Gu Yurou winced, watching Yu Fei’s back as the star walked off without a second glance. She felt a flicker of resentnt, but quickly swallowed it down. She was just a student. Soone like Yu Fei, a major celebrity, wasn’t soone she could afford to offend.

Still rubbing her shoulder, Gu Yurou wandered around the lobby until she found a wall-mounted directory. According to it, the president’s office was on the 39th floor.

She stepped into the elevator, rode it up in silence, and finally reached the corridor lined with tall glass walls and minimalist decor. At the end was the office she sought.

She took a deep breath and knocked.

A calm male voice answered from within. “Co in.”

She pushed open the door and stepped inside.

The room was spacious and modern, awash in soft ambient lighting. Behind a sleek mahogany desk sat a lone figure, facing away from her in a high-backed leather chair.

Gu Yurou clasped her hands in front of her nervously. “Hello… I’m Gu Yurou.”

The chair slowly turned.

Her breath caught.

The man before her had sharp, refined features and a cold, commanding air. She recognized him at once—Lu Beige, the president of the company. The self-made tycoon whose rags-to-riches story was well known across social dia. Young, successful, devastatingly handso. He was the dream man countless won adored from afar.

But then he spoke. His tone was strange, tinged with sothing unreadable. “Gu Yurou… you don’t rember , do you?”

She blinked. “Have we t before?”

He paused for a beat, then gave a faint, sardonic chuckle. “Of course. You wouldn’t rember . Back then, you were a rich heiress. Why would soone like you rember a poor kid like ?”

The hairs on her arms stood up.

Her heart thudded. “…Who are you?”

Seven years ago, she had been the daughter of a wealthy family, living a life of luxury and pride. But when her father’s business collapsed, the fall was swift and brutal. She had gone from heiress to commoner almost overnight. In the years since, she’d rebuilt herself, learned to be humble, to stay out of the spotlight.

She had buried the past.

But sohow, this man—Lu Beige—knew.

His eyes darkened. “Rember middle school? The boy who wrote you love letters? The one you humiliated in front of the entire class?” His voice trembled with old bitterness. “I dropped out after that.”

She gasped. A mory flashed. That face. That mont.

“It… it was you.”

“So you do rember.” Lu Beige’s lips curled into a devilish smile as he slowly stood up from his chair.

She stepped back instinctively, her voice tight with fear. “What are you trying to do?”

He didn’t answer. Instead, he walked over and turned the lock on the office door.

Gu Yurou’s heart dropped.

A storm of emotion brewed in Lu Beige’s eyes—hatred, grief, desire, all tangled together.

“After I dropped out, my mother tried to give a fresh start. She moved us to another city. We were packing up the car… when the accident happened. She died that day.”

His voice cracked. “If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have moved. If we hadn’t moved, the crash wouldn’t have happened. She would still be alive.”

His hands clenched into fists. “It’s your fault.”

Gu Yurou’s voice trembled. “I… I didn’t an to hurt you. I’m sorry.”

“Sorry?” His laugh was hollow. “You think a single ‘sorry’ can undo all that?”

He stepped closer, each step heavy with anger and sothing darker—obsession born from youthful rejection, twisted further by tragedy.

Gu Yurou backed away until her spine hit the wall. There was nowhere left to go. “What do you want from ?!”

His voice dropped low, rough with emotion. “You’ll find out soon enough.”

He began to take off his jacket, his face contorted with rage and lust. But just as he reached for her, sothing went wrong.

His body froze.

Confusion flashed across his face.

“Why… why isn’t it working?” His voice faltered.

He stood there, stunned.

No matter how much he willed it, no matter how intense the rage or the desire, there was no reaction. His body refused to respond.

For months now, he had felt strangely numb toward won, but he had chalked it up to stress, to disinterest. He never imagined that until this mont, sothing could be truly wrong.

Gu Yurou saw the opening.

With no ti to lose, she darted past him, flung open the door, and ran.

The system’s abrupt notification hit just as Wang Haoran was stepping into the barbecue shop, leaving him completely bewildered.

Before he could make sense of it, a soft voice called out.

“Don’t recognize ?”

Yu Shiqing walked up to him, a teasing smile playing on her lips as she gazed at him with eyes full of shyness and warmth. She looked breathtaking.

Wang Haoran blinked, shaken from his daze.

Then he looked at her properly and froze again.
