「Half an hour later.」
After strolling through the comrcial street and buying a few new sets of clothes, Xia Liang and Wu Tong arrived at the edge of First Bay Comrcial Street, at the base of a high-rise residential building.
Wu Tong's rented apartnt was on the fortieth floor of this building, though she hadn't purchased it. After all, she had only fild a few dramas and movies so far and didn't have much in savings. It was sowhat unrealistic to buy her own apartnt in the incredibly expensive Xiangjiang. At most, she could only afford an average, ordinary residence.
But for Xiangjiang's hottest young actress, living in a very ordinary ho was a bit unbecoming and didn't offer much security. If her address were exposed, it could lead to many dangers. Thus, on her agent's advice, Wu Tong rented this apartnt in a high-rise residential building adjacent to First Bay Comrcial Street. The people who could afford to live here were by no ans ordinary.
「A few minutes later.」
Xia Liang and Wu Tong took the elevator up to the fortieth floor. As soon as they stepped out, they saw a middle-aged woman in her forties waiting at Wu Tong's door.
When the woman saw Wu Tong, she hurried over, her tone urgent. "My dear girl, where have you been these past two days? Weren't you just supposed to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony and discuss that Dragon Country drama? How could you be delayed for so many days? You have no idea! Director Wu has been calling for days. You're the female lead, how could you just abandon your post?"
"Sister Li, I'm sorry. I got held up with sothing," Wu Tong said. As she spoke, she glanced furtively at Xia Liang, not loosening her grip on his arm.
Then, Wu Tong continued with the introductions. "This is Xia Liang, Master Xia."
She pointed at Xia Liang before looking back at the woman she called Sister Li. "This is my agent. You can just call her Sister Li. I sent her a ssage before I ca back to Xiangjiang, so that's how she knew we had returned."
"Nice to et you, Sister Li," Xia Liang said with a smiling nod.
The woman known as Sister Li also looked at Xia Liang enthusiastically. "So this is Xia Liang, Grand Master Xia! Indeed a talented and promising young man." When Wu Tong and Xia Liang had stepped out of the elevator, her gaze had imdiately fixed on him.
She could tell the nature of their relationship at a glance, even though their talent agency's contract explicitly forbade dating. Over the past few days, although Wu Tong hadn't returned, Sister Li had heard about certain events in Haojiang. After all, the phone number Wu Tong had left at the He Family Ancestral Ho was hers. In just that short ti, more than a dozen business magnates from Haojiang had called, all wanting Wu Tong to be their spokesperson. And all of this was thanks to the young man standing before her.
Even the director and producer of the Dragon Country drama had given Wu Tong the green light because of him. Therefore, whatever rules the company had were aningless in the face of Xia Liang.
"You flatter ," Xia Liang said with a light smile.
But Sister Li waved her hand dismissively. "Don't be so modest. These past few days, Wu Tong has been texting non-stop about how incredible Master Xia is. I didn't believe it at first. But then, all those big shots from Haojiang started calling, wanting Wu Tong to be their spokesperson. We have you to thank for all of this, Master Xia."
Sister Li's words made no ntion of how terrifying Xia Liang's abilities were, simply because she didn't believe it. After all, who would believe soone could stop lightning without seeing it with their own eyes? But for soone like Sister Li, what a person actually did wasn't important. As long as they had sufficient connections, they were a benefactor.
Wu Tong felt they had been standing in front of her door for too long. As she took out her keys to open it, she asked, "Sister Li, is there a reason you ca by so late?"
"Oh, right! I almost forgot." Sister Li quickly pulled a stack of papers from her bag and handed them to Wu Tong. "The movie script was revised, so this is the new one. I ca to bring it to you. And since you're back, you should go directly to the set tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" Wu Tong was taken aback, not expecting it to be so soon.
Sister Li simply nodded. "You've already delayed the shooting schedule these past few days. If you don't go now that you're back in Xiangjiang, Director Wu will be angry."
"This..." Wu Tong hesitated and looked at Xia Liang. She had been hoping to spend the next couple of days showing him around Xiangjiang.
Xia Liang understood what Wu Tong was thinking and shook his head, saying directly, "Just go to the set tomorrow. I'm actually very interested in a zombie movie set, so I'd like to go see it."
"Alright then." Wu Tong nodded and turned back to Sister Li. "Please let the director know I'll be there on ti tomorrow. Would you like to co in and sit for a bit?" she asked, gesturing toward the open door.
Sister Li's gaze, however, shifted between Xia Liang and Wu Tong before she grinned and shook her head. "I won't disturb you two. You have fun. I'll be on my way."
Before Wu Tong could even respond, Sister Li had already stepped into the elevator and left.
A blush crept onto Wu Tong's face as she glanced at Xia Liang.
