The bodies of the evolved infected were dragged away from the center of the base, but the atmosphere they left behind didn’t fade. It lingered, heavy and sharp, like a warning that refused to disappear. Arata Kurozawa stood near the entrance again, his eyes scanning the outside darkness, but his mind wasn’t on the streets anymore. It was on what had just happened. Not the fight—but the reaction. The way the group moved. The way they depended on each other. The way they were beginning to change.

Behind him, the base slowly returned to motion. Reina coordinated repositioning with calm precision, her voice steady as she adjusted defensive angles and reassigned minor positions. Miyu stood nearby, observing quietly, her eyes moving between people rather than walls now. Yuna, however, didn’t settle. She moved restlessly, her bat tapping lightly against surfaces, her energy not fully spent. And Airi—she stayed near the dical area, but her attention wasn’t on the supplies.

It was on Arata.

"...You should sit," Airi said softly as she approached him. Her voice carried hesitation, but also concern. "You took direct hits earlier." Arata didn’t turn imdiately. "It’s nothing," he replied. Airi shook her head slightly, stepping closer. "It’s not nothing. You’re bleeding." That made him pause. Not because of the injury—but because of her tone. Direct, Insistent.

Yuna noticed, Of course she did, Her tapping stopped.

"...Wow," she said casually, though her eyes were sharp. "Didn’t know we had a personal nurse now." Airi froze slightly, her hand hovering mid-motion. "I’m just doing my role," she replied, trying to stay calm. Yuna smirked faintly and stepped closer. "Your role is back there," she said, nodding toward the dical area. "Not hovering around him."

The air shifted, Subtle, But clear.

Reina glanced over briefly but didn’t interrupt. Miyu watched silently, her expression unreadable.

Airi lowered her hand slightly, but didn’t step back. "...He’s injured," she said quietly. "Soone has to take care of that." Yuna tilted her head, her smile not fading but changing. "Soone, sure. But you’re acting like it has to be you."

Airi hesitated, Just for a second.

Then spoke again, softer this ti. "...I want to help."

That was honest.

Yuna’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"Help?" she repeated. "Or stay close?"

Silence, Airi didn’t answer, Because she couldn’t.

Arata finally turned, Not fast, Not aggressive, Just enough.

"That’s enough," he said calmly.

Both of them stopped instantly.

Yuna clicked her tongue lightly but stepped back half a step, her expression unreadable again. Airi lowered her gaze slightly, her hands tightening together.

Arata looked at Airi first. "If it’s an injury, treat it. Don’t hesitate." Then his gaze shifted to Yuna. "And don’t waste energy on pointless tension."

Yuna raised an eyebrow slightly. "Pointless?" she said, almost amused. "You think this is pointless?" Arata didn’t react. "Yes."

That answer didn’t escalate things, But it didn’t resolve them either, It buried them.

Yuna stared at him for a mont longer, then let out a quiet breath and turned away. "...Fine," she said. "Do whatever you want."

But her tone had changed, Less playful, More sharp.

Airi stepped closer again, slower this ti. "Sit," she said quietly. Arata didn’t argue. He sat on a nearby surface, allowing her to check the wound on his side. Her hands were careful, focused, but there was a slight tremor she couldn’t fully hide.

"You moved too much," she said softly while cleaning the wound. "If you keep doing that, it’ll get worse." Arata watched her silently for a mont. "...You didn’t freeze this ti," he said.

Airi blinked slightly, surprised. "...I tried not to," she replied. "I rembered what you said."

That mattered, More than she realized.

"Good," he said simply.

That single word hit harder than anything else.

Yuna, standing a short distance away, heard it, And didn’t like it.

Her grip on the bat tightened slightly, Miyu noticed that , Of course she did.

"...Interesting," she murmured quietly to herself.

Reina approached slowly, stopping near Yuna. "Don’t overreact," she said calmly. Yuna glanced at her. "Who says I am?" Reina’s expression didn’t change. "Your grip."

Yuna looked down briefly, Then relaxed it.

"...I just don’t like weakness getting priority," she said.

Reina replied imdiately. "That’s not weakness. That’s value."

Yuna didn’t answer, Because she understood what that ant, And that made it worse.

Across the room, Airi finished wrapping the wound carefully. "...There," she said softly. "It should be fine now." Arata stood up imdiately, testing his movent, No hesitation, No complaint.

"Good," he said again.

Airi looked up at him.

For a brief mont—There was sothing more.

Not spoken, But there.

Yuna saw it, And this ti—She didn’t hide her reaction.

"...Tch," she muttered under her breath, turning away and walking toward the entrance again.

But this wasn’t over, Not even close, Because sothing had changed, Small, Subtle, But real, The first crack.

And once cracks appear—They spread.

Arata stepped forward again, back into position, his attention returning to the outside world.

But behind him—The balance had shifted.

Reina understood it, Miyu analyzed it, Yuna felt it.

And Airi...Had unknowingly stepped into it.

The beginning of sothing deeper, Sothing dangerous, Sothing human, And in a world like this—That might be the most dangerous thing of all.
