The mont the first line of infected fully erged into the open street, the difference from everything before beca undeniable. They did not rush. They did not scatter. They advanced with a steady, unified rhythm that felt unnatural in its consistency, each step asured, each movent aligned with those around them. Arata Kurozawa stood at the front of the base entrance, his posture steady, his gaze locked onto the approaching formation. The pressure building in the air was no longer subtle. It pressed down, heavy and deliberate, like sothing unseen tightening its grip around the battlefield.

Reina raised her weapon, her breathing controlled, her aim steady despite the scale of what stood ahead. "...They’re maintaining formation," she said. Miyu’s voice ca from above, calm but sharper than before. "Not just formation. They’re spacing themselves to avoid cluster damage. This is deliberate." Yuna let out a slow breath, her grin returning, but this ti it carried a different edge—less excitent, more intensity. "...Good. Makes it worth it."

Airi stood just behind the main line, her hands steady at her sides, her eyes focused on the movent outside. Her heart was beating faster now, but it wasn’t fear controlling her. It was awareness. This wasn’t sothing she could watch from a distance anymore. This was sothing she was part of.

The infected stopped just outside imdiate engagent range.

Waiting.

That pause—Felt intentional, Arata didn’t break it, He let it exist.

Because forcing movent now would an stepping into their control.

Seconds stretched, Tense and Heavy.

Then—A sound, Low and Deep.

Different from before, Not just a signal—A command, The infected moved, All at once.

The distance collapsed instantly, "Now," Arata said.

The base responded.

Reina fired first, her shots precise, cutting into the front line before it could fully compress. The impact staggered several infected, but unlike before, the formation didn’t break. The gaps were filled imdiately, movent adjusting without hesitation.

Yuna surged forward, her bat crashing into the first layer with full force, breaking through bodies with controlled brutality. But even as she did, the second layer shifted, not colliding into her strike zone, but spreading slightly, forcing her to adjust instead of dominating imdiately.

"...Yeah, you’re learning," she muttered.

Arata moved next, Direct and Fast.

He entered the center line, his strikes precise, eliminating threats with minimal motion, but the pressure didn’t drop. It held. The infected weren’t collapsing—they were absorbing losses and continuing forward.

Miyu’s voice cut through the chaos. "Left flank expanding—Reina, adjust two degrees right. Yuna, don’t overextend. They’re baiting forward pressure." Reina shifted instantly, her fire changing angle, preventing a side breach before it could form. Yuna clicked her tongue lightly but pulled back half a step, maintaining control instead of pushing too deep.

Airi moved, Not forward, But sideways, Positioning, Watching.

One of the survivors faltered under sudden pressure from a secondary angle, their stance breaking for just a second. Airi reacted instantly, pulling them back, her voice calm but firm. "Stay behind the line. Don’t break formation." The survivor nodded quickly, regaining position.

The pressure increased.

Not overwhelming—But constant, Relentless.

The infected cycled forward in waves, but not chaotic waves—controlled rotations. Front line engages, second line prepares, third line adjusts. It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t human-level strategy.

But it was enough.

Reina spoke through clenched focus. "...They’re sustaining pressure instead of bursting." Miyu responded imdiately. "Yes. They’re avoiding overcommitnt. This is prolonged engagent strategy."

Yuna grinned wider despite the situation. "...So they want a long fight."

Arata’s voice cut in.

"They won’t get it."

He moved, Faster, More aggressive.

Instead of holding the line, he pushed forward, cutting into the formation’s center, disrupting the controlled rotation. The effect was imdiate. The rhythm broke. Not fully—but enough.

Yuna followed instantly, her movent aligning with his shift, her strikes heavier, targeting not just damage, but disruption. Reina increased fire rate slightly, not wildly, but enough to capitalize on the instability.

Miyu adjusted her commands. "Center disruption working—reinforce forward pressure. Don’t let them reset."

The formation wavered.

Not collapsing—But losing synchronization, That was the opening, Airi saw it, Felt it.

"...Now," she said softly.

Yuna heard it, And moved harder.

Her bat crashed through the weakened front, breaking through into the second line. Reina’s shots followed, eliminating key points before they could re-stabilize.

Arata pushed deeper.

Not recklessly—But decisively.

Each movent cutting away at the structure holding them together.

The infected began to falter, Their coordination slipping, Their spacing breaking.

And then—It happened again.

The sound, But louder, Closer, More defined.

Everything froze for half a second.

Not physically—But ntally, Because they all felt it.

This wasn’t the sa signal as before, This was stronger, Heavier.

Yuna’s grin sharpened. "...Yeah," she said. "There it is."

Reina’s eyes narrowed further. "...Another one." Miyu’s voice dropped slightly. "...Higher command level."

The remaining infected reacted instantly, pulling back, clearing space once more.

Not retreating in panic, Repositioning, Preparing.

Arata stepped forward, Alone, The others didn’t stop him.

Because they understood.

This—Was the next level.

The street ahead opened slowly as the infected moved aside.

And from within that space—Sothing erged, Slower than before.

Taller, More stable.

Its posture wasn’t just controlled, It was composed.

Its eyes locked onto Arata imdiately, No hesitation, No confusion, Recognition.

Airi felt her breath catch for a mont before steadying again.

"...This one feels different," she said quietly.

Miyu didn’t disagree.

"...It is."

Yuna stepped forward slightly, her energy rising again, but not reckless—focused.

"...Good."

Reina adjusted her stance, her aim aligning perfectly.

Arata didn’t move imdiately, He watched, Because this—Was not just another enemy.

This was escalation, The creature stopped a few steps away, Close enough, Clear enough.

Then—It raised its head slightly And made a sound, Not random, Not instinctive.

Structured, Layered, Command, The air shifted, Heavier, Sharper.

The remaining infected responded instantly, repositioning around the area, not attacking, not retreating, but forming a controlled periter.

Airi felt it clearly now, They weren’t just fighting anymore, They were being surrounded.

Yuna exhaled slowly, her grip tightening.

"...Yeah," she said softly. "This one’s not just leading."

Miyu finished the thought.

"...It’s controlling the field."

Reina’s voice stayed steady.

"Then we break it."

Arata stepped forward, One step, Then another, Stopping directly in front of it, No hesitation, No fear.

Only decision.

Because this—Was no longer about holding the base.

This was about proving sothing To them.

To whatever was controlling them, That this territory—Was not theirs to take.

The creature tilted its head slightly, Watching him, Studying him.

Then—It moved.

Faster than before, Sharper, More precise.

Arata moved at the sa ti.

Their clash—Was imdiate, Violent, Controlled, And far beyond anything they had faced so far.

The battle had escalated again, And this ti—There would be no testing, Only outco.
