Although a sound had been made, no chilling aura filled the air.

There was nothing strange about this house, so if there was a noise, there could only be one explanation: soone was here.

Shen Bai focused, listening intently.

The whistling sound in the house grew louder and more chaotic, like soone blowing forcefully right next to his ear, making it impossible to pinpoint the direction.

But Shen Bai was no ordinary person. It only took him a mont to locate the source of the sound.

Cold Moon glinted with a frigid light. Without a mont’s hesitation, Shen Bai thrust the sword forward.

This ti, the blood-red Sword Qi did not flare up as it usually did. Instead, it remained hidden along the blade of Cold Moon, like a ferocious beast poised for a fatal strike.

The sword sliced through the air.

A sound suddenly rang out in the dim room.

"CLANG!"

The sound was like the clash of tal on tal, startlingly abrupt in the quiet, dark room.

A small figure erged, and Shen Bai finally got a clear look at what had appeared in the dead of night.

It was a cat, pure white as jade from head to tail, without a single fleck of another color.

The cat’s eyes were green, as clear as amber.

Most importantly, the cat had blocked Shen Bai’s Cold Moon with its paw.

Throughout his entire journey, from his rise in Shengyun County to his current level of power, Shen Bai could count on one hand the number of people who could block his longsword.

But now, his longsword had been stopped by a cat.

Shen Bai found it incredible. A strange fighting spirit began to surge within him once more.

’It may be just a cat,’ Shen Bai thought, ’but for it to appear in this room, it must be special.’

At this thought, Shen Bai held nothing back.

The blood-red Sword Qi blood like a flower of death, spreading outward.

At the sa ti, the enhancents from his Shadow Walk and Mystic Heart Spell imbued the blood-red Sword Qi.

The Sword Qi was wreathed in script and shadow, seeming to carry the power to sunder the heavens and split the earth.

A strike like this would demolish the house, but Shen Bai didn’t care.

Though it was an animal, the white cat’s instincts scread at it, sensing the terrifying power of Shen Bai’s Sword Qi.

Every move was an ultimate ability; even his basic attacks were overwhelming.

Even an eagle uses its full strength to hunt a rabbit. Shen Bai was holding nothing back.

But just then, the white cat did sothing unexpected.

It lay down on the floor, rolled over, and exposed its snow-white belly.

It even let out a soft "ow, ow, ow."

As everyone knows, when an animal exposes its belly, it’s a sign of submission.

Shen Bai stroked his chin and dispersed the blood-red Sword Qi.

"ow..."

The cat owed again, even bringing its white paws together in a clasped-hand gesture of respect.

Shen Bai considered this for a mont, then circulated the Qi within his body.

A layer of white light, as pure as jade, enveloped his entire body.

Shen Bai stepped forward and reached out to pet the white cat.

The cat didn’t shy away, simply continuing to roll on the ground in an appeasing manner.

Shen Bai felt the soft fur on the top of the cat’s head.

The mont he did, a strange scene flooded his mind.

His surroundings blurred, replaced by a filthy, dilapidated street.

On the street, a cat caked in filth—though clearly white underneath—was rummaging through a pile of trash.

The trash heap reeked, but the white cat seed oblivious.

Soon, it unearthed so scraps of food. The cat, seemingly starved, devoured them frantically.

But after it finished eating, the cat suddenly froze, as if held in place by sothing. It beca completely still.

Then, it collapsed to the ground and began to convulse violently before falling still once more.

Passersby paid it no mind, their eyes sliding past it as if it weren’t even there.

Ti passed. In the blink of an eye, night had fallen.

The white cat, lying on the ground, suddenly twitched. Then, wisps of resentful energy began to gather around its body.

A malevolent aura began to radiate from it.

The white cat opened its erald-green eyes, which now shone with a bone-chilling killing intent.

Just then, a little girl happened to pass by. Seeing the cat, she hurried over.

"Kitty, kitty, are you okay? Here, have so of this."

The little girl held out a candied hawthorn stick, bringing it close to the cat’s mouth.

At that mont, the resentful energy emanating from the cat was reaching its peak.

But at the sight of the girl’s offering, the cat froze.

The malevolent aura surrounding it then began to dissipate, vanishing at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Then, Shen Bai felt the scene before him begin to shift again.

The little girl took the cat ho. Shen Bai watched as the girl grew up, got married, and had children of her own.

Through it all, the white cat was always by her side.

On several occasions when burglars broke in, the white cat dealt with them discreetly.

One day, the little girl, now an old woman, passed away, her life ending as she returned to the earth.

The white cat stood vigil before her grave for seven days and seven nights, and then it vanished.

From that day on, the house was left to the little girl’s descendants.

The white cat watched over them from the shadows, a silent guardian.

Until one day, the family moved away. As they left, they muttered amongst themselves.

"That white thing... It’s just too creepy."

"Let’s get out of here. There’s definitely a monster in this house. We can’t stay."

"I think that was Grandma’s cat."

"That cat is too strange. It’s lived longer than any person. It has to be the monster. We have to get out of here."

The white cat sat on the roof, watching them leave, a contemplative look in its eyes.

After a long while, the cat decided not to follow. Instead, it remained in the house.

Every ti soone new ca, the cat would scare them away. Over ti, the house ca to be known as haunted.
