"Feng Che, I've wanted to battle your Gyarados for a long ti," Blue shouted across the field. "Now it's ti to see how it fares against my Ninetales!"

"Ninetales, use Flathrower!"

Ninetales opened its maw, unleashing a torrent of fire that swirled into a sea of flas, attempting to encircle the massive Gyarados.

"Gyarados, Hydro Pump!"

Gyarados responded with a blast of high-pressure water. The collision created a violent hiss, and the arena was instantly shrouded in a dense blanket of white steam. The opening exchange was a perfect stalemate.

"Ninetales, Iron Tail!"

Ninetales' nine tails stood erect, shimring brilliantly under the sun. Feng Che noticed sothing peculiar: golden motes of light were swirling into the tails.

Strange, Feng Che thought. Why are golden particles gathering there? Is it preparing Solar Beam? How did Blue signal that without a verbal command?

Blue, the "Researcher," was proving to be a formidable tactician, even if he lacked Red's raw battling instinct.

"Gyarados, use Iron Defense and prepare Protect secretly," Feng Che commanded via telepathy.

Gyarados' scales took on a polished, silvery sheen as if it had been plated in armor. When Ninetales' Iron Tail slamd into its flank, the sound of clashing tal echoed through the stadium, sending sparks flying. At that mont, a cunning glint flashed in Ninetales' eyes.

It pivoted mid-air, and a Solar Beam erupted from its mouth at point-blank range. However, a milky-white translucent barrier flickered into existence around Gyarados, neutralizing the beam entirely.

Blue's expression turned to one of pure shock. How did Feng Che see through the setup? I used Iron Tail as a visual signal and a physical distraction to hide the Solar Beam's charge. For Gyarados to use Protect that perfectly, it must have been preparing the move seconds ago.

Blue's body trembled slightly—not with fear, but with the adrenaline of a trainer facing a truly overwhelming opponent. "Strong... incredibly strong!"

"Ninetales, use Will-O-Wisp Array!"

Deep purple flas drifted from Ninetales' tails, blanketing half the sky. A thick violet mist began to spread, and Ninetales vanished within it.

Using the mist from Will-O-Wisp to hide and set up a burn trap? Classic Blue, Feng Che noted. Will-O-Wisp ignited the soul rather than the body, aning standard water moves wouldn't extinguish it.

"Since water won't work, we'll use wind and lightning. Gyarados, Hurricane!"

Gyarados coiled its body and ascended. Crackling yellow lightning began to arc across its scales. As the massive dragon roared, a gale-force wind surged, and bolts of lightning slamd into the arena. The electric discharge dispersed the purple mist, revealing the startled Ninetales. Gyarados then used the wind to corral the scattered wisps, snuffing them out with a concentrated burst of electricity.

"Brilliant," Blue muttered, almost wanting to give his rival a thumbs-up. "But we're not done! Ninetales, Flathrower!"

Ninetales unleashed nine pillars of fire that rged into a single, terrifying Fire Dragon. It beat its wings of fla and lunged at Gyarados.

A fire-based Dragon Pulse variant? Impressive. "Gyarados, use a Hydro-Brave Bird!"

Gyarados dove from the clouds, encased in a high-speed coat of spiraling water—Aqua Jet. It looked like a sea god descending from the heavens as it collided head-on with the fire dragon.

BOOM!

A series of deafening explosions rocked the stadium. Water rained down on the field. Blue's Ninetales looked at the soaking wet ground with pure disdain. Suddenly, its eyes turned a deep crimson, and the ground around it began to lt into glowing lava. It was drawing on its inner reserves to turn the entire arena into a volcanic hellscape.

It's losing control, Blue realized with a sinking heart. Ninetales looked like a lava demon crawling out of the abyss.

"Gyarados, Rain Dance!"

Feng Che decided to play it safe, using the torrential rain to suppress the escalating flas. In response, Ninetales unleashed a massive Fire Blast—a sphere of solar-level heat two ters in diater. It looked like a second sun had appeared in the sky.

After firing the shot, Ninetales collapsed from exhaustion.

Thank goodness that form is a glass cannon, Feng Che breathed. "Gyarados, let's finish this. Iceberg Crash!"

This was a custom move Feng Che had developed by mimicking Pryce's techniques. Gyarados manipulated the heavy rain, condensing the water mid-air and freezing it with a series of Ice Beams. Within seconds, a massive, jagged iceberg hung suspended in the air.

"Look at the size of that thing!" the crowd scread.

Gyarados sent the iceberg hurtling downward. It collided with the remains of the Fire Blast. The fire pierced the center of the ice, but the internal pressure caused the iceberg to detonate.

SHATTER!

Shards of ice as sharp as daggers sprayed in every direction like shrapnel. The force was so great that the protective Claydol guarding the stands were struck, their bodies cracking and falling to the ground like broken pottery.

The audience erupted into a panic. Spectators scrambled to their feet, shielding their faces as the barrier failed and icy debris rained down upon them.
