Jasper, Archie, and Oliver exchanged a glance. Then they nodded and shot forward simultaneously.
anwhile, Leon...
He watched as the three S-Class monsters charged straight toward him.
’Fuck.I know I should be running right now. Then why the hell am I getting so worked up?’
His heart pounded wildly. An intense rush of adrenaline surged through his veins.
’Why is every instinct in my body telling to charge straight at them instead?’
Leon didn’t have ti to think any further. The three S-Class monsters were already upon him.
The wolf-like creature arrived first, slightly ahead of the others. It swung its claws upward.
Leon reacted instantly. He raised his left hand. White particles condensed before him, rapidly forming an ice shield.
Clang!
The tal-like claws collided with the shield.
Craaaaaack!
The ice barrier shattered like fragile glass instantly. The impact blasted Leon backward.
But he hadn’t even traveled far when he noticed a streak of white-blue energy rushing toward him in a zigzag pattern.
Too fast. Too unpredictable to dodge.
Zap!
The bolt of lightning struck him squarely in the chest. Smoke rose from his body as he was hurled through the air.
[Lightning resistance: 1.01%]
Leon saw the notification. But the next mont...
Boom!
He crashed into the gates of the Bowen Estate. A deafening explosion echoed across the grounds. Dust and debris erupted everywhere.
anwhile, Jasper stared at his own claws.
A frown slowly ford on his face. ’Why did that feel so easy?’
Archie felt it as well. Sothing was wrong.
Back at the mansion entrance...
"Didn’t you say he had no ability?" Delta asked. "He clearly used ice magic just now."
"I saw it too." Alpha’s brows remained furrowed. "But I still didn’t sense any mana fluctuation from him."
The other assassins exchanged glances.
"Whatever." Delta shrugged. "Looks like you’re going to have a hard ti explaining this to your uncle." He looked toward the cloud of dust in the distance. "That combo attack was brutal. There’s no way Leon Bale survived that."
Alpha remained silent. ’If he can use magic and still hide it from my senses, then there’s no way he’s ordinary.’
His eyes remained fixed on the cloud of dust in the distance.
’I don’t believe he died that easily.’
In the distance, Leon lay sprawled on the ground. A fist-sized wound had appeared in his chest. Smoke hissed from the injury like steam rising from burning charcoal.
But... His self-healing had already activated.
The mangled flesh began knitting itself back together.
Within monts, the wound was already shrinking. Leon glanced at the system panel.
"System, how many Spirit Coins do I still owe you?" He said. "Can I take another loan? I need a sword right now."
Notifications appeared imdiately.
[Host’s Spirit coin due: 10.01 Billion Spirit Coins.]
Leon’s eye twitched. "Still that much? Damn it..." He quickly repeated the second question.
"What about the loan?"
[Host can take any loan.]
[Loan limit: 20 Billion Spirit Coins.]
Under normal circumstances, Leon would have thrown a tantrum because of how much the loan was still due. But at the mont, he had far more pressing matters to worry about.
"The Claymore."
He made his decision instantly.
[Purchase Confird.]
A mont later, a hilt wrapped in leather erged from the system panel. Leon reached out and grabbed it.
Then, slowly...
He pulled the massive blade free.
Jasper and the other hunters noticed movent amidst the rubble.
Then...
Thuck!
A stone rolled down from the pile of shattered debris.
Thud!
Another followed.
Thud!
Then the entire mound trembled. The pile of broken stone suddenly collapsed outward.
A figure rose from within. The lion-like beast slowly stood to its full height.
And this ti...
A sword rested in its hand.
A black claymore. Under the dark night sky, faint light glinted along its razor-sharp edge.
Silence fell across the battlefield. The expressions of Alpha and the other assassins changed instantly.
"He’s still alive?" Delta blurted out. "How is that even possible?"
Shock was written all over their faces.
"He just took two direct attacks from S-Class hunters!" Even Alpha looked bewildered. His eyes remained locked on the figure standing amidst the rubble.
’I didn’t think he would die. But I never expected him to simply stand back up after taking those attacks like nothing ever happened.’
In truth, either of those attacks should have killed him. But the ice shield had absorbed enough of Jasper’s claw attack to save his life. As for the lightning strike, the bloodline’s adaptation ability had protected him.
On the contrary, it had even increased his resistance to lightning.
However, Leon had no ti to think about any of that. He leaned forward. His knees bent slightly.
"S-Class, huh? But so what?"
He tightened his grip on the claymore. "Like I give a damn."
Crack!
The ground beneath his feet cracked.
Every assassin’s gaze was locked onto him.
At the sa ti, Jasper and the other hunters stared at the lion-like monster standing amidst the rubble. The atmosphere grew tense.
Then...
"First Form."
A stream of white breath escaped Leon’s mouth and was swept backward by the wind.
"Sword Dance."
Boom! The ground exploded beneath his feet. Leon shot forward like a shadow tearing through the darkness.
Whoosh!
The A-Class hunters watched as the lion-like monster shot toward the three S-Class hunters, their guildmasters.
None of them intervened.
After all, in their eyes, it was a clash they weren’t worthy to participate in.
Leon’s first target was the wolf-headed beast.
Jasper slashed with his claws.
But the orange-furred beast moved smoothly, its body swaying aside as though it had no bones at all. The attack slipped past him like a blade cutting through water.
The next mont...
Schlk!
Schlk!
Two crimson lines appeared across Jasper’s back, forming a bloody cross.
Leon didn’t stop. The instant his attack landed, he rushed toward the elf-looking monster.
But just as he closed the distance and was about to unleash the First Form once more...
Boom!
A massive palm suddenly filled his vision.
The golden gorilla had moved. To Leon, the enormous hand seed to close in slowly.
Then it struck.
Like a thunderclap.
Thud!
Whoosh!
Leon was blasted away once again. Blood sprayed from his mouth as his body shot through the air like a cannonball.
