An arrow, pitch-black from tip to fletching, shot through the air from behind the eaves of a narrow alley in North City. Fine silver patterns coiled around its shaft, and the arrowhead emanated a dim glow like a lunar eclipse. Moving faster than the speed of sound, it tore through the sky like a phantom.
Its tip was aid squarely at the vital point in the center of Ghost Moon’s back!
Warning bells scread in Ghost Moon’s mind. An icy killing intent shot up his spine to the crown of his head, making every hair on his body stand on end.
He was forced to retract the Palm Force aid at Ding Jian. In his haste, he activated the Ghost Shadow Illusionary Body Step, his body twisting violently in mid-air in a way that defied all logic, trying to evade the deadly arrow!
But his dodge only redirected the Black Kite Arrow—which had been aid at his back—straight toward Ding Jian’s!
The spectators below the stone pillar all gasped at the sight, their hearts leaping into their throats!
But then, sothing even stranger happened...
The very instant Ghost Moon’s body twisted, the fletching of the Black Kite Arrow suddenly emitted a soft hum, like a miniature sonic boom. The shaft trembled, and in that hair’s breadth of a mont, it changed direction again, its tip once more locked dead on Ghost Moon!
"What?!"
Ghost Moon was scared out of his wits. He reacted almost subconsciously, his hand shooting out to grab the arrow’s shaft, fingers curled like a talon.
The mont his fingertips touched the shaft, he felt a sharp Force worm its way between his fingers. The arrowhead was now only three inches from his chest!
A savage grin spread across Ghost Moon’s face, the look of a man who had just escaped death. His knuckles tensed as he prepared to crush the damn arrow, and then find the rat who had dared to ambush him...
The next mont, the hidden ’Breaking Gang’ Trait on the arrow shaft erupted. A wisp of pale golden energy pierced through his Protective Primordial Qi and stabbed directly into the ridians of his palm!
And the ’Soul-splitting Force’ concealed within the arrow slithered into his body like a viper!
An indescribable agony instantly detonated in the depths of his soul, flooding his Sea of Consciousness like a tidal wave!
It was as if countless tiny blades were frantically slicing and churning within him, threatening to tear his very Divine Soul to shreds!
AHHH—!!!
A bloodcurdling scream, so shrill it barely sounded human, erupted from Ghost Moon’s throat.
The sound waves made the surrounding mist ripple!
Ding Jian, the red-skirted woman, and the staff-wielding youth were all stunned by this sudden developnt.
’Ghost Moon had clearly caught the arrow, so why was his reaction so violent?’
’Could there be so other trick hidden in that arrow?’
Only Chu Fan, watching from beneath the distant eaves, showed no hesitation. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes.
He swiftly nocked a second Black Kite Arrow, drawing the bowstring into a full moon. Primordial Qi surged from his body into his left arm like a rushing stream, flowing through the string and into the arrow itself!

The second arrow flew as if to chase the stars, letting out a sharp whistle as it tore through the air, hot on the heels of the first!
Ghost Moon was on the verge of collapse, tornted by the soul-deep agony. His Divine Sense was shattered like a broken mirror. How could he possibly dare to block another one of those bizarre arrows?
He cast aside all thoughts of a master’s dignity or any cunning sches. With a strange cry, he perford an incredibly graceless roll, tumbling off the edge of the high stone pillar.
Using the massive pillar for cover, he narrowly dodged the fatal second arrow, along with any other attacks that might have followed.
The tide of battle had been instantly reversed by those two unexpected arrows!
The pressure on Ding Jian’s shoulders lessened. Seizing the opportunity, he let out a low cry. The glow from his Ancient Sword flared, its cyan Sword Qi surging several feet and violently knocking the massive, black cauldron back a short distance!
His gaze, along with those of the red-skirted woman and the staff-wielding youth, fell in unison on Chu Fan’s position.
Sensing Chu Fan’s weak aura—that of soone rely in the early Spirit Awakening Realm—the red-skirted woman furrowed her brow, a flicker of unconcealable shock in her eyes.
The staff-wielding youth raised an eyebrow, the corner of his mouth twitching with doubt.
’This new colleague from the Demon Suppression Bureau... his Cultivation Realm seems far too low.’
But in Ding Jian’s eyes, which were as deep as a starry sea, the astonishnt was fleeting. It was replaced by a look of solemn acknowledgnt.

His plan had been ruined and his soul severely wounded; the resulting hatred had already seeped into his very marrow.
Ghost Moon swore he would tear this mysterious, ghost-masked man to pieces to vent the rage in his heart!
Chu Fan caught sight of the approaching shadow in his peripheral vision, but his expression remained impassive. He didn’t seem overly concerned.
