Dan Cloud Peak.
Elder Bai Heyan convened a eting of the sect’s Elders of Alchemy.
Fang Yun also attended this eting.
A month had passed since he had refined the Earth Yellow Sword with nine Spirit Patterns.
’Just as I’d thought, the base Talent Points this Earth Yellow Sword provided were less than one hundred points shy of twenty-six thousand.’
The final difference was sixty-nine points.
’If it had reached twenty-six thousand Talent Points, it would have been a perfect Upper-Grade Spiritual Artifact.’
’If I treat the resulting Talent Points as a score, I believe no other nine-Spirit-Pattern, Upper-Grade Spiritual Artifact in the entire Celestial Cloud Sect could score higher than my Earth Yellow Sword.’
During the eting of the Elders of Alchemy, Bai Heyan did most of the talking.
Previously, Bai Heyan had been the Celestial Cloud Sect’s best Alchemy Master, but Fang Yun had long since taken that title.
’According to Dan Cloud Peak’s rules, if I belonged to this peak, I’d be the Managent Elder by now.’
’The rules on Artifact Casting Peak are pretty similar to Dan Cloud Peak’s. The acknowledged best Artifact Refiner is qualified to beco the Managent Elder, but there’s no way I could take my master’s seat.’
’Because of our master-disciple relationship, the other Elders wouldn’t think it’s better for to take the position.’
’To be honest, I’m not very fond of the Managent Elder position.’
’The Managent Elder has great power, but also a lot of duties. More duties ans less ti to accumulate Talent Points, which isn’t a worthy trade-off for right now.’
’My current situation is perfect.’
Since he was not an Elder of Alchemy from Dan Cloud Peak, Fang Yun mostly just listened during the eting and didn’t offer his own opinions, unless there were special circumstances.
Despite not being one of their Elders, his words on Dan Cloud Peak carried as much weight as Bai Heyan’s. That was all the more reason he couldn’t speak casually.
"...From now on, the refining of Cyan Clarity Pills, Purple Essence Pills, and Foundation Establishnt Pills will all be handed over to Elder Fang. Do any of you Elders have any objections?"
It was a necessary formality, so the question had to be asked.
Although Bai Heyan posed the question to the room, it was directed more at himself, as he was the one who had previously refined most of the Purple Essence and Foundation Establishnt Pills.
The other Elders of Alchemy shook their heads. They had no objections whatsoever.
Among the Elders of Alchemy, Wan Xuanye, Dan Cloud Peak’s second-in-command, usually opposed Bai Heyan. However, when it ca to matters involving Fang Yun, he never had any objections.
His own descendants had already benefited from the Foundation Establishnt Pills Fang Yun refined.
One of the three new Elders who had reached the Foundation Establishnt Stage in the past two years was his great-granddaughter.
"Very good. If no Elders have any objections, then this matter is settled."
The purpose of this eting was to formally confirm the arrangent. Any refining done before this had been unofficial, but that wasn’t a major issue.
With the matter of refining the breakthrough-assistance pills settled, Bai Heyan moved on to the next topic. He spoke of the Sect Disciples’ breakthroughs to Foundation Establishnt in recent years, which then led him to Fang Yun and the changes he had brought to the sect since he began refining Foundation Establishnt Pills.
The success rate for disciples reaching Foundation Establishnt had risen. In the long run, the sect’s strength was certain to grow.
Even now, during the war with the Celestial Demon Sect, the sect’s total number of Foundation Establishnt Elders was on the rise—sothing that had never happened in previous wars against them.
The eting was drawing to a close.
Bai Heyan asked one last question.
"Do any of you Elders have anything else to say?"
"Elder Bai, I have sothing to say."
It was Jiang Yan who spoke.
When He Jiawen saw his disciple wanted to speak, he knew him well enough to guess what he was about to say without even having to think.
"Jiang Yan," He Jiawen called out sharply, signaling his disciple to be quiet.
"Elder He, if he has sothing to say, let Elder Jiang speak," Bai Heyan reminded him.
At these etings, all Elders of Alchemy had the right to speak. That right could not be denied, or it would violate the foundational rules of Dan Cloud Peak.
"Am I allowed to use my own ideas for alchemy now?"
Jiang Yan asked. Since his breakthrough to Foundation Establishnt, he had been ticulously following the rules, refining pills exactly as instructed.
In other words, he had been holding back for a long ti.
’This can’t go on. I have to stand up for myself!’
Upon hearing this, Bai Heyan fell silent, considering the request.
’Based on Jiang Yan’s performance since he reached Foundation Establishnt, I thought he would have changed. It seems I was mistaken.’
’Compared to his master, He Jiawen, I don’t know Jiang Yan well enough.’
"You can, but..."
Bai Heyan trailed off, leaving the excited Jiang Yan in anxious suspense.
He had always wanted approval to try out his own ideas.
"But what? Please continue, Elder Bai."
At this, Bai Heyan’s gaze shifted to Fang Yun.
"However, you must discuss your ideas with Elder Fang. As long as Elder Fang approves, you may proceed with the refining."
This was the condition Bai Heyan laid out for Jiang Yan after so thought.
He was using Fang Yun to keep a check on Jiang Yan.
He knew Fang Yun’s character; the man was never reckless. If Fang Yun actually agreed to Jiang Yan’s ideas, it ant that Jiang Yan’s proposed thods wouldn’t make the pill significantly worse, at the very least.
"Uh... alright."
Jiang Yan thought for a mont, glanced at Fang Yun, who was next to Song Qiaoqiao, and finally nodded in agreent.
’I recognize Fang Yun’s Alchemy Talent. It’s definitely far beyond my own.’
