In the living room.

When Simon Adler heard that Mia Grant wanted to go to the company, he hesitated for a mont before readily agreeing. "That’s not difficult."

"The question is, what can Miss Grant promise in return?"

"I know you want to use to trade for my brother with the old man, but that’s no longer necessary. My brother will definitely show up tomorrow."

"You don’t have to worry about having ulterior motives."

"I’m just worried about him. I can’t be sure if he’ll still be under the old man’s surveillance tomorrow. That’s why I can only see him through you."

"Of course, if my brother doesn’t show up tomorrow, you can use to trade for him at any ti."

Simon Adler sized her up and down for a long mont before speaking.

"I have one more question. Answer it, and I’ll agree to your terms."

Mia Grant raised her eyes slightly, gazing quietly at the figure across from her, waiting for him to speak.

"What is Silas Grant to you? Or rather, what is your relationship?"

Mia Grant froze, her lips parting slightly. The words "brother and sister" were on the tip of her tongue.

Simon Adler seed to guess what she was about to say. "I’m asking about your private relationship."

"..."

The living room fell silent.

"I..."

A leisurely voice from the side broke the silence. "She’s my fiancée. What kind of relationship do you think they could have?"

Hearing this, Simon Adler glanced sideways at the man lounging lazily on the sofa, his eyes holding a hint of probing curiosity.

Yates Donovan t his gaze without flinching, one hand propping up his head and the other resting on his knee. He smiled at him. "How out of the loop are you? Our engagent was arranged when we were children."

"Stare all you want, it won’t change the fact that she’s mine."

Simon Adler seed lost in thought.

Then, he heard a faint comnt from a certain soone: "You look like a proper, cultured man. I didn’t expect you to have such a dirty mind."

Simon Adler: "..."

"Ahem. Fine. I’ll have soone co pick you up first thing tomorrow morning."

"But rember, I can only take you."

Mia Grant glanced at Yates Donovan beside her, then nodded. "Fine."

Before leaving, Simon Adler looked at her with a complicated expression, seeming to want to say sothing but holding back.

Mia Grant saw him to the door of the living room. Seeing his expression, she said, "I know you have a lot of questions, but I can’t answer them. You should ask my brother when you have the chance."

"The only thing I can guarantee is that, just like you, I want what’s best for him. I have absolutely no ill intentions."

The man, who had worn a cold expression ever since he walked in, suddenly chuckled and nodded slightly.

"Let’s hope so."

"I’ll say it again."

"Others know you’re special to Silas Grant and won’t do anything to you, but I don’t care about that."

"I can’t watch him throw away everything he’s built for you."

"I don’t care if you live or die. Even if he cos after for it later, I’ll still do it."

"So, you’d better pray the old man really lets him go tomorrow. Otherwise..."

Simon Adler’s gaze still held a hint of contempt as he threw out a warning: "Rember, this is Portia."

The next morning, Mia Grant got into Simon Adler’s car as planned.

Simon Adler wasn’t in the car—only the driver and the young woman she had t yesterday.

"We et again," she said, taking the initiative to greet the other woman. "You’re Mr. Adler’s bodyguard, right?"

"Yes." The woman introduced herself, "You can just call Lee."

Mia Grant felt drowsy as soon as she got in the car. Not long after they started moving, her vision began to blur. Just then, a voice exploded in her ear: "Wrong route."

"..." Mia Grant’s eyes shot open, and she looked up at the front seats.

Lee hadn’t noticed anything was wrong and was still looking down at her phone. The driver was also focused on the road.

Mia Grant quietly breathed a sigh of relief. She casually raised a hand to smooth the wisps of hair by her ear, making sure to completely conceal her Bluetooth earpiece.

With her other hand, she quickly zood in on the map. A few seconds later, she switched back to WeChat and sent a ssage to Yates Donovan: [Can you tell where they’re going? The Hughes Family?]

Through the earpiece, Yates Donovan saw the ssage and replied, "Doesn’t look like it at the mont."

"Don’t be afraid. I’m right behind you. If there’s a problem, I’ll cut them off."

The car turned into the underground parking garage of a large building.

It was dark and eerie all around. Mia Grant silently pulled her jacket tighter.

’Good thing I’ve been morizing the route. If things go south, I can just push the door open and run.’

Yates said, "My car is at your five o’clock, two rows away. It’s a black comrcial van."

"Ask them what they’re up to."

Mia Grant put down her phone and looked up. "Lee."

"Yes, Miss Grant?" Lee replied, turning around just as the driver turned off the engine.

"Aren’t we going to the Hughes Corp? Where are we?"

"The Hughes Corp?" Lee shook her head. "Miss Grant, those weren’t the orders we received."

"Is Mr. Adler backing out of our deal?"

"No," Lee explained. "Our boss just wanted to have a backup plan."

Under Mia Grant’s suspicious gaze, Lee explained patiently, "Our boss is at the company right now. He said that if Mr. Grant doesn’t show up on ti, we are to take you to the Hughes family."

"If Mr. Grant appears on ti, we’ll take you to the company."

"Don’t worry, the eting is expected to last at least three hours. We’ll have more than enough ti to get there. We’ll make sure you get to see Mr. Grant."

"The boss said this is just to improve efficiency, not because he doesn’t trust you."

"If we took you to the Hughes Corp to wait, it would be too far from the Hughes family’s residence. Waiting here saves so ti."

"That way, if we have to take you to the Hughes family to trade for Mr. Grant, we can still make it back for the board eting."

The corner of Mia Grant’s mouth twitched slightly. "How thoughtful."

Lee smiled. "Our boss is always like that. He’s a good person."

"..."

After waiting for about forty minutes, Lee took a call and turned to tell her, "Miss Grant, we’re heading to the company now."

"My brother’s there?" A ripple of emotion showed in Mia Grant’s eyes.

"Yes."

From here, it was only a fifteen-minute drive to the Hughes Corp. After getting out of the car, Mia Grant was led into Simon Adler’s office.

Diagonally across from his office was the conference room.

Lee told her that Silas Grant was inside.

"Do you have a photo?" Mia Grant remained vigilant. "Go in and take a picture for ."

"I can’t." Lee shook her head. "I’m not allowed in there."

"Then how can I be sure my brother is really in there?"

Lee scratched her head. "One mont, I’ll go ask the boss."

...

The heavy doors of the conference room were pushed open from both sides, but everyone’s attention was focused on the eting, and no one paid any mind to who had entered.

Silas Grant sat at the head of the table, his dark eyes behind his glasses calmly fixed on the director who was speaking.

Suddenly, a hand reached out from behind and to his side.

A strange, sweet fragrance filled his nostrils. Silas Grant’s brow furrowed, a flash of displeasure in his eyes.

The woman set down a coffee. As she pulled her hand back, her fingers deliberately-yet-casually brushed against his injured hand, which was resting on his lap under the table.

She whispered in his ear, "Brother..."

It was the sa voice from the sensual dream he’d had last night.

Silas Grant’s heart jolted. His dark, gloomy eyes shot up.
