Mia Grant didn’t have much of a reaction to Hayes Hughes’s words.

Even if Serena Grant wasn’t the one who made the post, she was still the mastermind.

The post revealed too much information—details only soone from the Grant family would know.

Serena Grant was far from innocent.

Unexpectedly, the always-composed Serena Grant suddenly let out a shriek, shoved her onto the sofa, and ran out without looking back.

"..." Mia Grant’s first reaction after being pushed onto the sofa wasn’t anger.

’Did that little miss just have a ltdown? She did, didn’t she? So satisfying!’

’If other people hadn’t been there, she would have let out a loud, brazen whistle!’

As Hayes Hughes helped her up, Mia Grant was still gloating inside, getting so carried away that she montarily forgot her persona.

"Mia?"

"Ah... Huh?" She snapped her head up.

Hayes Hughes had called her na several tis. His eyes scanned her anxiously as he asked, "Did you hit anything? Does it hurt anywhere?"

Only then did Mia Grant quickly lean back into his arms, closing her eyes and speaking weakly. "I’m fine... You should go check on my sister. She seems really upset. I... HISS... I’m really fine."

Hayes Hughes squeezed her hand. "I’m sorry. Your big brother didn’t protect you properly. I’ll make Serena apologize to you. As for the forum incident, I’ll definitely get you justice."

"There’s no need, Big Brother... Everyone has already seen what my sister posted. Even if she apologizes, it won’t change anything."

"Let’s just drop it. It’s fine as long as it makes my sister feel a little better." She shook her head, her eyes red-rimd. "I’ll be okay."

He rembered her as a little girl who didn’t cry easily.

When the Grant family had been harsh with her before, she would just stand there timidly or nod blankly.

Even when she was truly wronged, she would always try to hold back her tears.

Hayes Hughes felt a sharp pang in his heart. He gently wiped a teardrop from the corner of her eye with his warm fingertip. "How could it be okay? Our Mia shouldn’t have to suffer like this."

He thought back to the ti before she’d jumped into the sea... The mory of her unending tears made his fingertips tremble, as if scalded.

He wouldn’t let history repeat itself.

Hayes Hughes hid his hand by his side and turned to the principal. "Regardless of who is responsible, I hope the university will handle this matter seriously and have the poster make a public apology."

The principal hadn’t expected him to be so protective of the fake heiress.

"I’ll get you excused from class. Let take you back to your dorm to rest, okay?"

Mia Grant sobbed without saying a word, though inwardly she was gloating.

’This is exactly the effect I was going for.’

’A verbal apology is useless. It would be more satisfying to just call the cops.’

’But a public apology... now that’s at least sothing a decent person would say.’

Hayes Hughes carried her all the way to her dormitory building. Along the way, he seed to have many things he wanted to say to her. But when he looked down and saw her pale face, he swallowed his words.

"Well... I’ll head back for now. I’ll have your things sent over later."

Since it was a won’s dormitory, Hayes Hughes couldn’t go inside. He handed the things he’d bought to the dorm mother, and the auntie helped deliver them to Mia Lynch’s room.

Four huge bags stuffed full of things.

He had not only bought her seasonal clothes but had also thoughtfully prepared desserts and snacks, even including enough for her roommates.

There was also all sorts of dicine, with the dosage and purpose neatly written on a small note attached to each box.

’This is definitely his style.’

’He’s the most thoughtful person.’

Mia Grant rummaged through the bags, pulled out a box of fruit, and handed it to the dorm mother. "Thank you for making the trip, Auntie."

As she let go, a bank card suddenly fell from under the box. It must have been pressed underneath for a while, as it had stuck to the bottom.

Mia Grant froze.

Seeing this, the dorm mother quickly said, "Young lady, your boyfriend is so good to you."

"He’s tall, handso, and so considerate!"

A mix of complicated feelings churned inside Mia Grant. "He’s not my boyfriend. He’s my... cousin."

She thought she wouldn’t see Hayes Hughes again so soon, but unexpectedly, after class the next day, she saw him from a distance, waiting downstairs from her dorm.

Mia Grant overheard so other female students passing by say that he seed to have been standing there for a long ti.

After a mont’s thought, Mia Grant ran over.

"Are you looking for ?"

’Just like yesterday, she still seems unwilling to call ’Big Brother’.’

Hayes Hughes pretended not to mind and handed her what he was holding. "Are you feeling any better today? You seem to have a bit more color in your face."

"I had an auntie make so restorative soup and brought it for you."

"It’s still hot. You can have it with dinner later."

Mia Grant didn’t take it, just stood there silently looking up at him.

He was wearing a different trench coat today, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing his forearms. On impulse, she reached out and touched one. Just as she’d expected, his exposed skin was cool from the wind.

Hayes Hughes was taken aback. "What’s wrong?"

"How long have you been waiting here?"

Jynsia had plunged straight into autumn. The north wind was bleak, and even wearing a jacket, Mia Grant felt cold today.

Realizing what she ant, he smiled. "Not long. I just got here a little while ago."

"You’re lying," Mia Grant pouted. "If you keep this up, I’m going to ignore you."

Only then did he tell the truth: he had been standing downstairs for four hours.

His car was right there, so he could have waited inside, but he was afraid his view would be obstructed and he’d miss her.

They hadn’t exchanged contact information yesterday.

However...

"Didn’t you ask the university for my class schedule?"

Even though she hadn’t given it to him yesterday, getting it would have been a simple matter for him.

"I still wanted to get your permission first."

The implication was clear: if she didn’t want to give it, he wouldn’t force her. Hayes Hughes placed the soup thermos in her hands. "It’s cold out here, and the wind is picking up. Hurry and go upstairs."

Just like yesterday, he didn’t ask about what had happened over the past two months, nor did he make any demands of her.

She glanced down at the thermos in her hands, then at the man’s hand that had started to reach out before pulling back. Mia Grant sighed silently. ’I’ve never been able to resist soone so gentle.’

She thought she finally understood why Hayes Hughes’s "blackening value" was lower than the other male leads.

’Actually, I’ve always had a secret I’ve never told anyone.’

’Back when I was reading the original novel, my favorite character was the second brother...’

’Anyway, he and the female lead don’t end up together, so he belongs to the readers!’

’When the author held a popularity poll, I even hired a water army to spam votes for him.’

’I was determined to make the second brother the ultimate winner!’

"Big Brother Hayes, I kind of miss your cooking."

A look of astonishnt flashed in Hayes Hughes’s eyes. After taking a few breaths to compose himself, he asked her, "Do you have any more classes later?"

She shook her head.

Mia Grant went with Hayes Hughes to his ho. For the sake of convenience for work, Hayes Hughes had always lived near the hospital.

He was busy in the kitchen, coming out every so often to grab sothing.

Mia Grant sat in the living room and watched him co out for the sixth ti to get so paper towels. She hesitated for a mont, then said, "Big Brother Hayes, you don’t have to keep checking on to make sure I’m still here."

"Don’t worry, I won’t do anything."

"I’m too tired to even hang myself after class."
