Ian Sinclair was the first to notice Mia Grant was awake.
"Baby!"
The young man couldn’t contain the surprise and joy in his voice. Realizing he’d been too loud, he called to her again in a softer tone.
"You’re awake?"
Mia Grant’s eyes were vacant. She stared at the ceiling, lost in thought, as if she hadn’t heard him.
He was about to call to her again, but Felix Sinclair stopped him.
Felix had already pressed the call button.
Mia underwent an examination while she was still unconscious.
The doctors were sowhat at a loss; they still hadn’t found the cause of her condition.
She had genuinely coughed up blood, but the tests hadn’t revealed any major problems.
When Mia Grant ca to her senses, the people in the hospital room were gone.
Only Ian Sinclair remained.
She blinked gently. At the sight, Ian’s eyes lit up. "Baby."
Her calm gaze swept over his face. When Mia opened her mouth to speak, the movent pulled at the cut on her face. She couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath of cold air.
She raised a hand to touch her face.
Ian’s expression changed slightly. He quickly grabbed her hand. "There’s dicine on it. Don’t touch it for now."
If it weren’t for the sharp pain, Mia Grant would have almost forgotten that Mrs. Grant had slapped her.
"Don’t worry, it’s just a little swollen. I’ll help you apply the ointnt properly, and it’ll be fine in a couple of days."
He could tell what she was thinking at a glance. "It’s not ugly, not at all! You’re still my beautiful baby~"
Usually, hearing such words would make Mia Grant happy.
But right now, she couldn’t bring herself to smile.
It wasn’t just because of the injury on her face.
Her thoughts were a jumbled ss. She forced her brain to reboot, temporarily pushing aside the unanswerable questions.
"Were you the one who brought here?"
She rembered that before she passed out, besides the voices of the system and her roommate, soone else had been calling her na.
"It was ." Like a puppy seeking praise, he leaned over the side of the bed, practically wagging his tail at her.
But soon, his tail seed to droop. "I’m sorry, baby. I should have gotten there sooner."
’If only I’d gotten there sooner, she wouldn’t have been hit...’
Dixon was well-inford, active in all the various student group chats on campus. When he saw what was happening with Mia Grant, he imdiately shared it in their dorm’s group chat.
Ian had been at basketball practice, preparing for a ga, so he didn’t see the ssage right away.
By the ti he rushed over, a chilly autumn wind was blowing. The girl’s frail body looked utterly fragile as it slowly fell backward.
He caught her just in ti.
Mia Grant smiled and patted his head. "You got here just in ti. Otherwise, if I had fallen on the ground, I would’ve been in a much worse state."
"What happened after I fainted?"
He told her that after she fainted, the school administration and her roommate had co over.
The doctor said she was fine, so the school officials left for the ti being.
He also sent her roommate ho so he could stay and take care of her.
"Then that old hag showed up."
"Who?" Mia Grant paused, unsure who he was talking about.
"Serena Grant’s mom." Ian couldn’t help but curse at the ntion of her. "I seriously wonder if she has so kind of ntal problem. She’s completely incapable of listening to reason."
"Going on about how you’re her daughter and she had to co in to see you... Her words sounded sweeter than a song. Pfft."
Ian rolled his eyes. ’I really regret it. I should have slapped her right then and there.’
Mia Grant poked him. "I rember my mother brought bodyguards. Besides, your two families are on good terms. If you had actually hit her, would you even be able to go ho?"
Ian Sinclair didn’t hear a word Mia Grant said. He was already plotting, trying to figure out when he could find a chance to return that slap on her behalf.
’I can’t just let this go.’
"You didn’t get into a fight with my mother, did you?" Seeing his indignation and recalling his impulsive nature, Mia Grant grew a little worried.
Mrs. Grant’s bodyguards are all professionally trained.
If he really confronted them, Ian would likely be at a disadvantage.
"No. My brother ca," Ian said reluctantly. "He went to reason with her."
Hearing this, Mia Grant breathed a sigh of relief. But soon, she felt sothing was off.
"Reasoning with her shouldn’t work, right?"
Ian Sinclair shrugged.
’So how did they handle it?’ Mia Grant was genuinely curious.
Ian Sinclair jutted his chin toward the adjacent wall. "The person in the room next to yours ca out and solved it."
"Who?"
"I think his na was Yates Donovan."
Mia Grant froze. ’Why would he be here?’
’Did he follow ?’
On second thought, it was probably the Donovan family’s old master who was here.
Ian Sinclair watched her reaction, gritting his teeth slightly, before finally asking with a smile, "You must know him, right? I heard he’s your fiancé."
"..."
Seeing her reaction, Ian was certain: Felix hadn’t lied to him.
「Earlier」
When Felix Sinclair dragged him into the hospital room, Ian Sinclair was completely baffled.
"Are you sure that guy with the surna Donovan can handle that old witch?"
"Aren’t the Donovan and Grant families on good terms? Why would he help us?"
Through the glass window in the door, they could only see the man’s profile. From this angle, they couldn’t make out his expression.
They could only see that the man’s chin was slightly raised as he said sothing to Mrs. Grant. One hand was on his hip, while the other toyed with a fruit knife, a casual smile on his face.
His lazy posture didn’t make him look like a diator; he looked more like soone who had co to watch a show.
After a single glance, Felix Sinclair withdrew his gaze. "Don’t worry about it."
Imdiately after, Ian watched as Felix casually locked the door from the inside, walked calmly to the bedside, gently picked up a chair, set it down, and sat.
"You know sothing, don’t you?"
He followed him over.
Felix was looking down at his phone, seemingly texting soone.
"Have you dealt with that guy before? Is he..."
"Be quiet. She’s resting."
"..."
Ian imdiately fell silent. He glanced at the pale cheeks of the girl on the bed and obediently shut his mouth.
He didn’t know what they were talking about outside the door, but they weren’t leaving.
Unable to contain his curiosity, he sidled up to Felix and continued to question him in a hushed voice.
Annoyed by his pestering, Felix finally answered with a single sentence, "Of course he has no reason to help us. He’s helping *her*."
"Who do you think he is?"
"Isn’t he that profligate eldest grandson of the Donovan family, the one who’s into wining, dining, whoring, and gambling?" Ian had heard so rumors.
"More than that." Felix said, "He’s Mia Grant’s fiancé."
"..."
"Is that really true?"
"So he really is your fiancé."
Coming back to her senses, Mia Grant looked at Ian’s mournful eyes and suddenly burst out laughing. "To be precise, my *ex*-fiancé."
"The engagent was called off a long ti ago."
Ian Sinclair: "Really?!"
"Still don’t believe ?"
"Kiss and I’ll believe you."
Mia Grant stared at him silently. Being watched by her direct gaze, Ian Sinclair suddenly felt a little embarrassed.
He scratched his head awkwardly. "Um, I was just saying..."
The next second, soone placed a gentle kiss on the tip of his reddening ear.
"!" Ian Sinclair’s eyes shot open.
"Y-You... You’re still sick! What are you doing up? Lie back down, quickly!"
He frantically tucked her back into the blankets.
"But you’re the one who asked to kiss you, right?"
"Yes, but I... you’re still sick."
Mia Grant deliberately teased him, "So what?"
"As much as I want to, we can’t do anything right now."
"You kissed ... What if I can’t control myself...?"
Outside the door, Felix Sinclair turned around with a deadpan expression, only to be t with a scrutinizing gaze.
