Chapter 2388: Chapter 2389: Lin Yi’s Hidden Worries Chapter 2388: Chapter 2389: Lin Yi’s Hidden Worries Leaving the study, Lin Yi visited the other rooms and saw nothing out of the ordinary.
The living conditions of the family seed quite decent with no unusual signs.
On another note, it was evident from his wife’s behavior that their relationship was good. If Gu Yiran hadn’t cald her down effectively, she might have cried herself into unconsciousness.
Nearly half an hour later, Gu Yiran had grasped all the information, and the three of them left together, heading back to the police station.
“Any leads on the Haima Qiang case?” Zhang Hui asked.
“Although Ma Haiqiang didn’t look like much, his lifestyle was quite decent. He didn’t have any ssy relations,” said Gu Yiran:
“But in doing business over the years, he’d had many competitors and even conflicts. Those were long ago, though. To say they would co back for revenge now isn’t very credible.”
Zhang Hui, with his legs crossed, lit a cigarette.
“The probability of it being a competitor is small. If nothing unexpected happens, both he and Fang Daye were killed by the sa person.”
After speaking, Zhang Hui glanced at Lin Yi, “Little Yi, what do you think?”
“Pretty much the sa. The two cases share similarities,” Lin Yi spoke:
“The murderer could have killed without leaving a trace, but instead chose to expose the victims arrogantly in our sight.”
“According to Fang Zhiping’s statent, when he went to burn paper offerings for his grandfather, Ma Haiqiang’s body was already buried. He hadn’t noticed it while passing by earlier, but discovered sothing off in the dead of night.”
“In other words, if the murderer had wanted to hide the body, Fang Zhiping would not have discovered it. It was deliberate; a sign was placed to ensure it’d be found.”
“Our thoughts match perfectly, and that’s the weird part,” said Zhang Hui expressionlessly:
“What’s the purpose behind putting so much effort into this?”
“Provocation! The murderer must be a psycho. A normal person wouldn’t do this,” Gu Yiran spoke:
“I think Granny Sun is also a suspect. Only her house in Xiangyang Village keeps foxes, which is a good entry point.”
“Indeed.” Zhang Hui nodded, “She had said that both Fang Daye and Ma Haiqiang would die, and right after, Ma Haiqiang was found dead. It’s unlikely to be a coincidence.”
“So, this case must be thoroughly investigated.”
“But before that, he had a conflict with soone nad Zhang Long, so he’s also a suspect. I’ve asked the team to get in touch with him to see what’s going on,” Zhang Hui said.
“That’s good.”
“Let’s leave it at this for today. You two go rest, and we’ll continue the discussion tomorrow.”
Gu Yiran stretched, “I’m dead tired, with an aching back and cramping legs. I need a good rest.”
“That’s easy to solve, let Little Yi give you a massage,” Zhang Hui suggested with a smile.
“Him?”
“Brother Hui gets . I’ve been thinking about that as well,” Lin Yi said while looking at Gu Yiran:
“Co on; I’ll take you for an eye-opener.”
Catching Gu Yiran by surprise, Lin Yi took him to Huaqing Lake.
“Is this the place you and Brother Hui talked about?”
“Yep, I’ll treat you to a session with Big Treasure Sword. You’ll feel refreshed tomorrow.”
“I’ve never been to places like this.”
“Nonsense. Haven’t you been here during raids? I rember last ti; you were the one who caught .”
“That was for a raid. How could it be the sa?”
“Co on, stop the chatter. Let’s go have your session and then sleep here. Otherwise, we won’t have the energy for tomorrow.”
They got out of the car, and as usual, Lin Yi received the highest level of hospitality.
Gu Yiran sneakily glanced at Lin Yi a few tis, wondering how much one had to spend to get such treatnt.
After a quick shower, they headed to the VIP room on the fourth floor.
Despite his weariness, Gu Yiran felt refreshed by the novelty of his first visit here.
“I’ll get four male models for you. Would that be enough?”
“Co on, why would you get male models for ?”
“Of course for your Big Treasure Sword massage; you wouldn’t want won, would you?”
“Enough with your tease.” Gu Yiran was a bit embarrassed, “Just a simple massage is fine.”
“You really don’t know how to enjoy things.”
“I don’t want to lose my job over this.”
“Alright then.”
Lin Yi found two technicians and then comfortably enjoyed his massage service.
“How should we approach investigating Granny Sun?”
“To be honest, I don’t think she’s a major suspect. She just seems off because she’s not in the best ntal state,” Lin Yi contemplated:
“If it had really been about the fox, they wouldn’t have waited so many years to act.”
Lin Yi sighed, “And Fang Daye used to help her out often. That’s a point we can’t ignore.”
“But she did say herself that both Fang Daye and Ma Haiqiang were going to die.”
“Have you thought about the fact that the causes of their deaths were different?” Lin Yi said:
“Fang Daye died of suffocation without being subjected to any torture prior, whereas Ma Haiqiang’s legs were broken. This shows the murderer’s hatred towards Ma Haiqiang exceeded that for Fang Daye.”
“In the incident with the fox, Fang Daye was the main instigator. If it had truly been her hiring the murderer, Fang Daye would have suffered a fate far worse than Ma Haiqiang.”
“But Fang Daye had helped her before, leaving room for leniency.”
“Theoretically, your argunt stands, but from a criminological psychology perspective, when a person decides to harm their benefactor, all sense of humanity and ethics are thrown out.” Lin Yi continued:
“Once people die, talking about favors becos quite pale.”
Lin Yi’s words left Gu Yiran deep in thought.
“But there’s no angle to start the investigation from. If we cut off the lead with Granny Sun, we’re really at a loss on how to proceed.”
“Ah…”
Lin Yi sighed. Being at a loss was the most infuriating situation in a criminal case.
“We could look into that Zhang Long. After all, he had a confrontation with Ma Haiqiang before his death.”
Lin Yi looked at Gu Yiran with a smile, “You must be at your wit’s end to point the finger at him.”
Gu Yiran also smiled.
They both knew well that Zhang Long wasn’t a strong suspect. After all, they had settled their differences, and it was hardly a blood feud that would escalate to this level.
But then another question arose in Lin Yi’s mind.
Granny Sun had said that both Fang Daye and Ma Haiqiang would die.
Indeed, both of them had died.
But after they visited Granny Sun, she had said the sa thing to him and Gu Yiran.
You are all going to die!
