Chapter 2669: Chapter 2670: Doubts
“Let’s make it clear first, as long as this well is not more than ten ters deep, it’s considered fake.”
“No problem,” Luo Qi said with a little tilt of her head.
“Boss, Chaoyue, do you want in on the bet as well?” Zhao Yunhu asked.
“Count out,” Zhang Chaoyue said.
“What about you, boss?”
“I already know what color her underwear is, so I’ll pass too.”
“Damn! Are you two up to sothing sneaky?” Zhao Yunhu yelled dramatically:
“Why is it sothing I rack my brains over, you find out so easily?”
Lin Yi rubbed his chin, “Maybe I’m just better looking than you.”
Zhao Yunhu: …
“You’re being totally unfair!”
“Stop dawdling, hurry up and start, today you must fetch so foot-washing water.”
“Just you wait to lose.”
Zhao Yunhu didn’t waste any ti and picked up a stone from the ground, threw it into the well, and then the two of them perked their ears, listening quietly.
To ordinary people, such a small sound would definitely be inaudible.
But Zhao Yunhu and Luo Qi were both at level D, with hearing far better than ordinary people.
Many subtle sounds couldn’t escape their ears.
But after a second or two, there was no sound at all.
“Hmm? No sound?” Zhao Yunhu muttered.
“Haha… You lost, didn’t you?”
Luo Qi patted Zhao Yunhu on the shoulder, “Co to my room tonight to wash my feet, I’ll give you a chance to get close to .”
Zhao Yunhu kept scratching his chin, puzzled:
“Sothing’s not right, it must be a fake well, it couldn’t have been dug that deep.”
“Stop making excuses and co wash my feet tonight.”
“Hold on, let figure this out, this well has to be fake, sothing must be wrong sowhere.”
Hearing their conversation, Lin Yi and Zhang Chaoyue, who were investigating, instinctively turned to look over.
In their subconscious, they also largely believed the well was fake.
If it were real, that would be a bit odd.
“No way, I have to try again!”
“Testing won’t work, my sister’s hearing is exceptionally good; this is a real well.”
“Absolutely impossible!”
With that, Zhao Yunhu picked up another stone and threw it down the well.
The two listened carefully again, still not hearing any sound.
“See, no sound, right?” Luo Qi said proudly.
“Sothing’s off,” Zhao Yunhu said:
“With our hearing capabilities, if there’s no sound, the well must be at least over twenty ters deep.”
“That’s for sure; it might even reach twenty-five ters.”
“Not just twenty-five ters. If it’s a water-drawing well, it must be at least thirty ters deep,” Luo Qi said.
“Well, this is interesting, building the tomb so near a well and so close by.”
“Sothing’s wrong!” Zhang Chaoyue said: “There’s sothing fishy.”
Their gazes shifted to Zhang Chaoyue, waiting for him to continue.
“If this well were real, there should be signs of habitation around; look around, it’s all barren, nothing at all, it doesn’t make sense.”
Pausing, Zhang Chaoyue continued:
“If for so reason, the buildings here were buried underground, making it invisible now, then during archaeological explorations, they should have uncovered more than just a Princess Tomb.”
Zhang Chaoyue’s words prompted them, making them feel there indeed might be an issue.
If it were a real well, there should certainly be signs of habitation around.
Otherwise, why would anyone do such a thankless task, digging a well where no one lives?
“Then there’s no problem, the well should be fake,” Zhao Yunhu said.
“But the issue is, if it’s a fake well for deceiving tourists, it’s unlikely they’d make it so realistic.”
“We’ll know once we check, see how deep it is,” Zhang Chaoyue said.
“I think there’s a rope in the car; I’ll get it.”
Zhao Yunhu turned around and went out, retrieved the rope from the car.
Then, he tied a stone to one end of the rope, and lowered it into the well.
But soon, the twenty-ter-long rope was not enough.
The stone below did not reach the bottom of the well.
“This is a bit strange.”
Seeing this, even Luo Qi stopped questioning the truth and wanted to figure out the problem.
“If it’s a fake well, there’s no way it would be dug this deep, it’s totally unnecessary, just a waste of money,” Zhang Chaoyue said.
“A real well couldn’t be either; there’s no sign of life around,” Zhao Yunhu said.
The problem reached this point, and the contradiction erging left them all a bit unclear about the reason.
“Chaoyue, go to the nearby resort and get so rope from them; if not, buy so, just be quick.”
“Got it.”
Responding, Zhang Chaoyue drove to the Green Mountain Resort.
He returned in less than twenty minutes, carrying two bundles of large ropes.
After extending the rope, Zhao Yunhu continued lowering it, about another ten ters down, just as the stone below seed to touch the bottom.
“Judging by the depth, it’s at least thirty ters,” Luo Qi said:
“Convert that, and it’s about the height of a ten-story building, this isn’t ordinary.”
“I’ve thought of a possibility.”
Lin Yi suddenly said, instantly grabbing everyone’s attention.
“What we can be certain of now is that the tomb Ma Biao and the others robbed is nearby, and this well dug so deep might very well connect to the tomb underneath.”
Lin Yi’s speculation provided the three with a new angle.
“Boss, are you suggesting that this well is a robber’s tunnel?” Luo Qi said.
Lin Yi nodded as a response.
“But it’s already been proven that this well was dug by a rich rchant back then, so it’s unlikely to be a robber’s tunnel, right?”
“We can verify it,” Lin Yi said:
“Call the archaeological team and ask about this well; they should have done a comprehensive investigation.”
“Understood.”
Zhang Chaoyue took out his phone, dialed the archaeologists’ number, and turned on the speakerphone.
“Director Zhou, this is Little Zhang. I’d like to ask you about the Princess Tomb.”
“I was just about to call you; do you need our help? We’re ready on our end and can co over anyti.”
The speaker was a middle-aged man. Back in the day, he was a team mber in the archaeological team and had been promoted to director over the years.
“It’s nothing big, no need to co over,” Zhang Chaoyue said with a smile:
“I just wanted to ask, there’s a well in the Princess Tomb, right behind the Palace, do you rember it?”
“A well? There wasn’t any well when we excavated.”
As soon as this was said, all four of them had a change in expression.
Things were beginning to feel more off.
“Oh wait, now I rember,” Director Zhou said:
“Once, I went fishing at Green Mountain, and when I visited there, it seed the contractor dug a well there and then made up so stories to cheat people out of their money.”
