Chapter 2741: Chapter 2742: Script
Mason’s voice wasn’t loud, but in the silent hearing room, it was resolute and clear.
Gerard watched him, his expression ominously dark.
Mason sat in the chair, unmoved by the situation.
“Do you think you’re innocent? Do you understand the impact of last night’s events on the country?”
Mason also gazed at Gerard, showing no signs of backing down.
“The surrounding residents and shops suffered various degrees of attacks. Because of your actions, the public faced unprecedented threats, creating significant panic. Temporarily removing you from your position is already a good outco.”
Gerard remained motionless, his face devoid of expression.
From the beginning, he found Lin Yi’s actions incomprehensible.
Now, he understood.
He intended to create chaos and use public pressure against him.
“That’s not the point.” Gerard defended himself again:
“It was Moon’s appearance that ruined all the plans.”
“But I need evidence!”
Mason’s tone beca stern.
“If you use such excuses every ti you fail, who will be responsible for the country’s losses?”
“Heh…”
Gerard sneered slightly, then spread his hands.
“Then I’ll accept the investigation.”
“eting adjourned!”
Gerard did not linger at the hearing, leaving imdiately.
The others also packed up and prepared to leave.
“Campbell, I think your attitude is problematic,” Mason said while organizing docunts.
“What’s the problem?”
“In this operation, the Ghost Squad lost half its mbers, causing a severe negative impact. Soone like Gerard should be accused!”
Mason’s intention was simple, to have Campbell side with him and jointly accuse Gerard.
As long as Gerard was removed, the position of the highest executive officer would be his!
“I was wondering if Moon really appeared.”
“That is no longer important,” Mason said:
“In recent actions against the Central Guards Brigade, he failed. Firstly, his ability has an issue. Secondly, there might be secret collusion among them. I don’t think he can competently hold this position any longer.”
Campbell looked at Mason, knowing his intentions from the start.
But having worked with Gerard for years, there was a bond, making it hard for him to decide.
“I hope you won’t reconsider. If he stays in this position, you might be implicated in the future,” Mason said:
“You must realize you’re his deputy, and whatever he does, you might be involved. Aren’t you afraid of getting dragged down by him?”
“Let think about it.”
“I will submit the relevant reports, and I’m sure there will be results in three days. If we join forces, Gerard will definitely be ousted,” Mason said:
“I can assure you that you will take over Storm and the Ghost Squad; I won’t interfere much.”
Upon hearing this, a gleam appeared in Campbell’s eyes.
He had been waiting for these words after playing hard to get for so long!
“After making so many wrong decisions, he deserves to pay the price.”
…
After escaping, Lin Yi drove to hide in the countryside.
“How is Ning Che doing?”
Lin Yi asked Qiu Yuluo over the phone about Ning Che’s situation.
“Already sent back, heavily injured, but fortunately not life-threatening. In about two more hours, he will reach Yanjing.”
Lin Yi’s heart felt clenched like a fist, feeling suffocated.
“Team One is very worried about you. Ever since you left, they’ve been asking the brigade about your whereabouts,” Qiu Yuluo said:
“They already know about what happened last night and are heading to Washington. Boss Liu sent people to stop them, but they dealt with them and weren’t stopped.”
Lin Yi nodded, knowing Team One was capable of that.
“Where are you? I’ll co to find you now,” Qiu Yuluo said:
“Everything here is settled, and we need to find a way back to the country.”
“The statue is still in their hands, so we can’t go back for now,” Lin Yi said:
“Help contact Team One, gather them together, and wait for my instructions.”
“What are you going to do?”
Qiu Yuluo’s tone suddenly rose.
She had been worried ever since last night, fearing such a situation the most.
If Lin Yi acted alone, his safety could not be guaranteed.
“Don’t worry, I’ve survived the hardest monts. There’ll be no danger anymore,” Lin Yi said:
“Do as I say, gather Team One, and there will be other arrangents.”
“But…”
“Beep beep beep…”
Lin Yi didn’t give Qiu Yuluo a chance to speak further and hung up.
He pulled out the SIM card, snapped it, and threw it aside.
From now on, he was disconnected from the world, unreachable by anyone.
For the following days, Lin Yi wasn’t idle, continually organizing the follow-up plans.
The explosion incident’s heat hadn’t died down, and signs pointed to escalating further.
This gave him a taste of conspiracy, sensing the event’s trajectory aligning with his script.
…
Three days later, Gerard faced the second hearing.
As usual, Gerard showed no signs of panic.
He dressed impeccably, like an old gentleman, quietly waiting to be picked up.
Even though he knew this hearing would decide his fate, he remained relaxed.
Bzz bzz bzz—
At this mont, the phone on the table rang. Seeing the caller ID, Gerard glanced around alertly, then took the phone into the room.
“Mr. K.”
“What’s the situation on your end?”
“The hearing is about to start, and the outco is yet unknown.”
“My people have arrived in Washington. If anything goes wrong, don’t stay there.”
“Thank you, Mr. K.”
“Rember, don’t leave any loose ends.”
“I understand.”
Beep beep beep—
As always, the other side spoke few words, ending the call after addressing the matter.
Just then, the sound of brakes ca from outside. Looking down, Gerard saw the car ant to take him to the hearing had arrived.
Adjusting his clothes, Gerard walked out, calmly heading to the hearing.
Compared to the first ti, there were noticeably more attendees this ti.
The presiding judge was still Mason; that had not changed.
Facing countless scrutinizing eyes, Gerard remained composed.
Patiently awaiting the final outco.
“Gerard, regarding your previous testimony, can you now provide complete evidence?”
