The mont the tutorial results appeared, the badge in the upper right corner of the screen flashed.

[Initial Placent Result: S]

[Participant Record: First ever tutorial S Grade achiever.]

"Wow! He actually hit S rank right off the bat."

Root shot up from his chair in shock and shouted.

"Let's see if the rankings updated too!"

Tap-tap-tap-tap-tap.

The three of them crowded around to check the rankings tab.

[Rank 100: Yu Seo-ha / S / MIT / KR / 901.5]

Gasps of admiration burst out.

"Ohhh!"

"He just broke into the top 100."

"Reaching S Grade is seriously hard.. I'm jealous."

"Don't you think you guys could manage this much too?"

Seo-ha genuinely thought so.

From sowhere, a whisper ca: "Deceiver."

"Hm?"

Seo-ha checked the ti and closed his laptop.

"Calling it quits?"

"Yeah. Today's a day I have to go pick up my sister. I'll work on it whenever I have ti. I'm curious how an AI's approach to creating problems differs from a human's, too."

Whirrr-

Stepping outside the building, a strong wind hit him.

"It's going to be really cold today, huh?"

He hurriedly put on his helt and gloves and mounted his bicycle.

Seo-ha tightened his bag securely and started pedaling. The cold ocean breeze stung the tip of his nose.

"Ahh.... I'm going to freeze."

Every breath sent white puffs of air drifting out.

Once he left campus and pedaled at full speed, it wasn't long before he arrived at the bus stop.

After waiting a short while, a yellow school bus pulled in.

Seo-eun, now fairly comfortable with English, high-fived her friends as she stepped off the bus.

"Oppa!"

Seo-eun ca running with a beaver plushie clutched in her arms.

She was bundled up in so many layers that her body could barely move properly.

The way she waddled along with her arms half-spread looked exactly like a baby penguin.

"Well, who do we have here. Mom went full armor on you again today, huh?"

Seo-eun pouted as if to show her displeasure.

"Yeah, thermal underwear, a knit sweater, a vest, and a puffer jacket. I can't even put my arms down. The kids teased asking if I was headed to the Arctic or sothing."

Seo-ha burst out laughing.

"Rember when we lived in Okcheon County? You wore this many layers on snowy days back then too."

Seo-eun nodded without a mont's hesitation.

"Yeah! Of course I rember. We had a snowball fight, oppa. We built a snowman together too."

"And when we got ho?"

"Mom made us cocoa and roasted sweet potatoes!"

As if recalling the sweet taste, Seo-eun's face softened into a gentle expression.

Seo-ha looked relieved.

It wasn't a mory he cherished alone. That fact gave him great comfort. Seo-ha wrapped his sister's scarf tightly so she wouldn't be cold.

At the sa ti, Reddit was on fire.

[Yu Seo-ha, joins LOGIA!]

-Just confird he finished his placent. Went straight to the top tier? First ever placent exam S Grade on LOGIA ㅋㅋㅋ

└Tutorial accuracy 100%, average response ti 4.2 seconds ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

└Top 100 on his first entry? The guy's smart, I'll give him that. Can't deny it.

└Now it's a real war. Stanford vs MIT

└Indian players are flooding in too. LOGIA is absolutely booming, huh?

└Asian invasion, damn

└Heard the season ends in 2 weeks? First place gets a crown. Top 100 get an emblem.

└Bombed my placent. I'm done for. I just want to get at least an A next season..

"Hahaha!"

Theodore checked Reddit and laughed with delight.

"He's finally here."

For the first ti in a while, he felt his heart pounding.

'Took him long enough to get off his ass....'

It had been quite the ordeal, writing posts that went against his own personality just to lure Seo-ha out.

Theodore glanced at the research notebook sitting on one side of his desk.

"Just two weeks. Get the crown and then go back to research."

Theo imagined a scenario where he'd set a score no one on LOGIA could touch, beco a legend, and retire.

Yu Seo-ha was surely exceptional, but Theo didn't think himself lacking in the slightest.

Theo had never once been serious while playing LOGIA.

Because there hadn't been a single opponent he'd acknowledge as a true rival.

He moved the mouse, and a match was found.

[LOGIA Advanced Session]

-Difficulty S

-Success Rate 0.2%

[Do you wish to attempt?]

(Y/N)

He pushed his coffee cup aside and lightly loosened his wrists.

“I suppose I have to defend the throne.”

Click.

A problem appeared on the monitor.

"The AI does a decent job imitating humans, doesn't it?"

It was no ordinary differential equation.

Topology and variational theory were intertwined, and on top of that, the problem even incorporated quantum probabilistic analysis.

Theodore's eyes sharpened. Then he picked up his pen and began calculating.

"Not bad for a machine!"

A fire stirred in Theodore’s chest.

Since starting LOGIA, he summoned the greatest concentration he'd ever displayed and smoothly solved the high-difficulty problem.

After succeeding on three more problems after that, he was able to fully recover the points he'd lost the previous day.

[Rank 1: Theodore Langford / S / Stanford / US / 998.7]

‘Tch! If only I hadn’t misread that question.’

He searched for Seo-ha's na in the rankings tab.

Theo's eyes widened as he scrolled down with his mouse.

[Rank 46: Yu Seo-ha / S / MIT / KR / 932.1]

"In just one day?"

Even he hadn't climbed the ranks this fast.

"Heheh. So you're aware of too. Of course! With sitting at the top, you must be feeling the pressure. Go ahead and give it your best shot."

After using his brain for so long, hunger set in. He grabbed his laptop and stood up.

'What should I eat?'

Theo decided to head to Lakeside Dining, which offered a late-night nu.

The dining hall was brightly lit despite the late hour. Students sat in small groups, eating a late dinner or tapping away at their laptops.

Theo likewise grabbed a tray and slowly joined the line.

"Hm?"

At the table right next to him, a student had LOGIA open on their screen.

A guy in a red hoodie pulled low was staring holes through his monitor, fully absorbed in solving a problem.

'Pfft! How cute. Go ahead and try. The winner's already been decided, though.'

Theo smirked and was about to go grab his food when an unbelievable sight caught his eye. When the guy asked for help, three or four students latched on and started solving the problem together.

"This part, the integral boundary is wrong. The derivative cos out negative."

"Hold on, you need to factor the log term out!"

"No, if you do that, the trailing term diverges. LOGIA problems are never that simple."

Theo stopped in his tracks.

On the laptop screen was the blue UI he knew all too well. The tir indicating the ti limit was ticking down.

"Two minutes and thirty seconds left!"

Soone shouted.

"This one's really not coming together. Anyone got a good idea? If you help out, I'll buy you a drink!"

The red hoodie cried out as if in agony.

Theodore clicked his tongue as though looking at a piece of filthy garbage.

"Tch!"

Step step.

He walked over toward the students. Then he firmly pressed down on the hoodie guy's open laptop and shut it. Everyone at the table stared at Theo in shock.

"Who the hell are you? Why are you touching soone else's laptop without permission?"

The hoodie guy looked outraged, as if he'd been wronged.

"Oh my God! What did you just do!"

"He was right about to break into the first page of the rankings!"

The students who seed to be his friends clutched their heads.

Theodore said nothing in response.

He looked around at the students and spoke in a cold voice.

"Since when was LOGIA a cooperative ga?

Have you people no sha? If you don't know the answer, just get it wrong. And then learn from it."

The hoodie guy's face turned red, as if he was furious.

"Who the hell are you to say that?

You think anyone actually takes this seriously enough to solve these alone? It's just a ga. The whole point is to raise your score."

"Wow!"

Theo let out a sound of mock admiration.

"No wonder people were keeping up with my score so well.

So there really are quite a few of your kind. Do you not even realize you're cheating?"

"Cheating? Haha! That's hilarious."

The hoodie guy laughed and raised his middle finger.

"This is collaboration. Like a group study session. We got here on our own skill too."

These were people who claid to solve math problems, yet not one of them recognized him.

Theo was struck anew by just how much his two-year absence had cost.

He thought for a mont, then flashed a smirk.

"Right, I suppose this about sums it up. Just because soone holds a pencil doesn't an they're serious about math. You lot are nothing more than extras, standing around while we fight the real battle."

His appetite had vanished.

"What did you just say...."

"I'm saying I wasted my ti."

Theo cut him off, gave his shoulder a pat, and walked away.

Caught off guard by the unexpected reaction, the hoodie guy wore a bewildered expression.

Theo set down his tray and walked out of the dining hall.

'Yu Seo-ha, the world is covered in filth. People shalessly claim they solved problems they couldn't actually solve, and they feel no sha about it.

But I know. You and I, we could never be that kind of people.'

"Since the beginning, the joy of mathematics has been a privilege reserved for the chosen few."

As he walked slowly, the phone in his pocket buzzed.

Bzzt...

[LOGIA System Notification]

-Yu Seo-ha (MIT)'s ranking has been updated.

-Current Rank: 9th / S / 962.4

A smile spread across Theo's lips.

* * *

[Tank coming through. Clear the road.]

-Yu Seo-ha, 9th place in one day, is that even possible ㅋㅋㅋ Rankers are all getting knocked down a spot each. At this rate, he'll be in the top 5 by tomorrow, won't he?

Theodore better have slept well.

└I just looked at the detailed log and nearly passed out. 100% accuracy.

└LOGIA! Co on, show so fight. Surely you're not losing to a re human?

└Ow, ow! Soone just blew past .

└The throne is being claid as we speak.

└China and India's players got swept aside equally and fairly.

└This is like a natural disaster or sothing. Who was it that summoned Yu Seo-ha to LOGIA ㅋㅋㅋ

└It was 'T' who summoned him. But honestly, he's impressive too. Like, "A first place without you in it ans nothing to ." Sothing like that?

└Both of them are probably glued to LOGIA all day. The showdown's gonna be sothing to watch.

Click.

"Oppa, what are you doing?"

Her oppa, who had been helping with her howork, kept glancing at the screen and clicking the mouse every now and then. Each ti, a fanfare sound would play.

"Oh, sorry. I'll turn the volu down. Where were we?"

"Creative writing!"

"Right, let see what you've got."

Seo-eun handed over her notebook with a confident expression.

[Title: Duck’s Friend, Beaver]

I like beavers.

Because beavers are good friends to ducks.

Beavers carry wood in their mouths to build dams.

Then the water pools up and a tiny lake forms.

Ducks swim in that lake. They splash around too.

What if a scary fox cos, you ask?

It's okay. The beaver is safe. Because the duck can fly up into the sky and see far away.

When the duck goes "Quack quack!" the beaver quickly dives underwater and hides.

A duck and a beaver who are good friends.

I want to be friends with them too.

Clap clap clap!

Seo-ha applauded passionately, looking deeply moved.

"This is really wonderful! Is Seo-eun going to grow up to be a writer?"

Seo-eun flinched and shook her head furiously.

"No! My friend's oppa is a writer, and apparently he never showers and looks like a ss all the ti."

She added with a deadly serious face.

"And he stares out the window all day or walks around the yard by himself muttering stuff?

That's absolutely sothing you should never do."

Seo-ha laughed heartily and stroked Seo-eun's hair.

Snow had begun to fall outside the window.

Having finished all his P-Sets, Seo-ha opened LOGIA. And a mont later, the fanfare sounded once more.
