Chapter 1254: 866 When one man achieves the Way, his chickens and dogs ascend to heaven too!
“This.”
A place called Silk Mouth.
A coffee shop not far from the subway station.
Seeing Ouyang Qing push the door open and walk in, Wu Yufei, who was supposed to be resting at ho, waved to signal her over.
Ouyang Qing walked over and sat down across from her.
“May I take your order?”
“Iced Aricano, thank you.”
“Please wait a mont.”
The server walked away.
Ouyang Qing looked at Wu Yufei, “Don’t think you can act like everything’s fine just because you’re out of the hospital. The doctor reminded you—you still need to take care of yourself.”
“I know my own body better than anyone.”
Wu Yufei looked surprisingly healthy. Whether it was the effects of light makeup or not, her skin had a radiant glow, even healthier than most people.
“What brings you here?”
Ouyang Qing asked.
“I went by Kangrun this morning and finished my resignation paperwork.”
After all, it wasn’t so fly-by-night company. Everything followed proper procedure.
And that’s what integrity demands.
“How’s Kangrun doing nowadays?”
Ouyang Qing couldn’t help but ask.
Wu Yufei shook her head and gave a bitter smile, “What do you think?”
Ouyang Qing responded casually, “Those who consistently do wrong will inevitably et their end. They brought this on themselves—served them right.”
Then, lowering her voice, she glanced theatrically around the coffee shop before leaning in conspiratorially, “A couple of days ago, after you were discharged, Jiang Chen walked you ho alone after dinner. What did you two talk about?”
The word “alone” was laden with suggestive aning.
“We didn’t talk about anything. He dropped off and left right after.”
Wu Yufei maintained a calm front, but her heart couldn’t help racing.
That night, two days ago, was probably the bravest mont of her life.
Even braver than her previous attempt to save herself by jumping from a window.
He had not only helped her achieve justice but also offered her a chance to change her destiny—a kindness and favor akin to a second life. She couldn’t think of any other way to repay him.
This is how the logic of society works.
To gain sothing ans you must pay the price.
This is why unethical practices flourish, and why unscrupulous hospital executives feel justified making all kinds of indecent demands.
But of course.
Though the rules remain, different people hold different principles.
If one is willing to sacrifice sothing in exchange for benefits, there’s no reason to risk it all by jumping out of a window.
Most importantly, it’s because it was Jiang Chen.
The boy who had been a vivid presence in her youth.
Human emotions are truly strange.
Even if they barely spoke to each other in the past, it felt as though he had taken residence in her heart—she had liked him for so very long.
That night.
Whether she acted out of an inability to repay him or simply overwhelming longing, as soone freshly discharged from the hospital, her body might have been recovering, but her emotions had reached their peak.
That’s why she boldly asked him the kind of question most would find utterly “shaful.”
It wasn’t just a whim. She had struggled and deliberated before speaking. She had prepared for everything.
For a woman, having the chance to choose the boy she loved in her youth was already a trendous stroke of luck.
She hadn’t expected him to take any responsibility. Even if it resulted in just a one-night encounter, she would’ve accepted it wholeheartedly, without complaint or regret.
But surprisingly, or perhaps not-so-surprisingly.
He turned her down.
And said, “Long live friendship.”
Recalling the gentle, warm smile on his face as he departed, Wu Yufei found herself montarily lost in thought, overwheld by indescribable feelings even now.
She was aware of how she had changed.
Those hospital executives had undoubtedly encountered their fair share of won.
Ease, disappointnt, sha, awkwardness… a swirling mix of emotions kept cycling through her, eventually evolving into a single sentint.
Gratitude.
At the very least, it proved her youthful judgnt hadn’t been wrong—that her unspoken feelings hadn’t been in vain.
“What are you thinking about?”
Ouyang Qing waved a hand to get her attention.
“Nothing.”
Wu Yufei quickly adopted an air of indifference, but being young, the faint blush on her face betrayed her words.
Ouyang Qing noticed and understood perfectly. As their old classmate, she was fully aware of the feelings Wu Yufei had never confessed back in the day.
“We’re adults now, and the world is what it is—we both know that. Even if sothing had happened, it would just be normal.”
She intentionally used a relaxed tone.
Already feeling guilty, Wu Yufei grew visibly more flustered, hastily defending herself, “You’re talking nonsense! He just ca upstairs and sat for a while before leaving.”
A classic case of the guilty giving themselves away.
“Didn’t you just say he dropped you off and imdiately left? How did he end up coming upstairs too?”
Ouyang Qing feigned confusion, her gaze mischievous.
Tripped up by her own words, Wu Yufei was left speechless, her cheeks burning red.
“Your coffee.”
Thankfully, the waiter ca to her rescue, breaking the awkward silence.
“Thank you.”
Ouyang Qing tactfully dropped the subject, gracefully taking her coffee without pressing any further.
After all, it was a private matter.
No matter how close friends are, there have to be boundaries. Even curiosity must be kept in check.
“You didn’t co here just to treat to coffee, did you?”
She took the initiative to steer the conversation elsewhere.
Grateful for her thoughtfulness, Wu Yufei quickly adjusted her mood.
“I have sothing to discuss with you.”
“Is it about Jiang Chen?”
Wu Yufei froze montarily, then blushed furiously and replied, “No, it’s not!”
Ouyang Qing remained calm and nodded, “Good. You know I’m not much different from you—my experience with relationships is pitifully scarce, so I wouldn’t have much advice to offer.”
If Jiang Chen were single, as a friend and their mutual classmate, she wouldn’t have hesitated to encourage Wu Yufei. But Jiang Chen had already made it clear that his heart belonged elsewhere.
Because of this, the matter had beco far more delicate.
