"Elizabeth?"
Although the Chinese sounded odd, Lu Zheng still recognized the voice.
"It's . George, Catherine, and I have co to Hua Country," Elizabeth said. "We were supposed to co in the sumr, but my grandmother suddenly fell ill, then I encountered so issues at work, so it got delayed until now."
"Oh, I see..."
Though Lu Zheng didn't really care about their problems, since they offered an explanation, he listened anyway.
"So you guys just arrived in Hai City? Are you at the airport now? Lin Wan and I can co pick you up."
Elizabeth said, "No need, we're already at the hotel, about to have dinner. We wanted to invite you and Lin. Is Lin with you?"
"Yes." Lu Zheng nodded and moved the phone closer to Lin Wan.
"Hello, Elizabeth!"
"Hello, Lin!"
"Hello!"
"We're all here!"
Elizabeth, Catherine, and her boyfriend George's voices ca through the phone.
"Have you had dinner? Want to join us?"
Lin Wan couldn't help but laugh as Lu Zheng looked at the pancake they were halfway through eating.
"No need, we're halfway done. You guys eat by yourselves. After that, we'll take you to see the night view of Hai City."
"Alright, we'll just have a bite at the hotel restaurant," Elizabeth said. "Where shall we et tonight?"
"We'll co pick you up. Which hotel are you staying at?" Lu Zheng asked.
Elizabeth replied, "We're at the Waldorf Hotel."
Lu Zheng was taken aback. The Waldorf Hotel, such long-standing mories...
Should I bring out the Ghost Child to give them a scare?
"What are you thinking about?"
Lin Wan, sitting across from Lu Zheng, could also hear the phone conversation. Seeing Lu Zheng pause, she waved her hand in front of him.
"Oh, nothing!" Lu Zheng snapped back to reality and said, "The hotel is close to the Hai City riverbank. Let's et at the hotel entrance."
"Okay, we'll do that. We're heading to the restaurant now, see you later!"
"See you, bye."
Lu Zheng hung up the phone, looked at Lin Wan, and said helplessly, "Well, there goes our New Year's getaway."
"It's just three days for New Year's, where else can you go? Just travel around dostically."
"But they won't only play for three days, will they? Aren't you going to accompany them?"
"I have to work!" Lin Wan replied confidently.
Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow, "Didn't you notice the main point?"
Lin Wan raised an eyebrow back, "You an Jas didn't co."
"Looks like they broke up," Lu Zheng nodded and smiled. "Aren't you afraid your husband will be ambushed?"
Lin Wan rolled her eyes, "Not at all."
Lin Wan genuinely wasn't worried. Elizabeth was pretty, but not as she used to be, plus she's a foreigner. Lu Zheng wouldn't open his heart to her, so that foreign girl posed no threat to her position.
As for Lu Zheng eating outside?
Lin Wan shrugged. If she couldn't exhaust him herself, then it's her own problem.
Lu Zheng felt speechless, "You're making feel very unaccomplished..."
Lin Wan blinked, then held Lu Zheng's hand, "Honey, I still have to work. Please restrain yourself and stay faithful for !"
"Go away, go away!" Lu Zheng pulled his hand back and picked up the half-eaten pancake.
...
The two of them had a cheerful dinner and then headed to the entrance of the Waldorf Hotel.
"Lu! Lin!"
Lu Zheng shook his head, "Foreigners and their habit of calling people only by their last nas."
Lin Wan laughed, "The pronunciation of foreign last nas is quite a lot. If they always use full nas, it would be inefficient."
"Elizabeth! George! Catherine!"
Lu Zheng and Lin Wan walked closer and lightly hugged each of them politely, knowing fully well the answer, "Jas didn't co?"
George and Catherine blinked, while Elizabeth candidly said, "We broke up, so I didn't invite him this ti."
"Alright." Lu Zheng nodded, "Hope you find soone better."
"Of course!" Elizabeth laughed, then said, "This is my first ti in Hua Country. I even learned Chinese for six months before coming."
"How do you think I'm doing?"
She asked this specifically in Chinese.
"Pretty good. Just don't say anymore," Lu Zheng gave a thumbs-up.
Lin Wan playfully patted Lu Zheng and complinted, "Really good. To speak like this in just six months is impressive."
Elizabeth said, "I know my pronunciation is still a bit odd, but I'll get better with practice."
"Of course!" Lin Wan said.
Then the group headed towards the inner river for sightseeing.
"Hua Country is so bustling, and the environnt is better than London's," Catherine remarked.
George looked around and said, "It's much safer than London too."
Lu Zheng chuckled, "You probably don't feel the danger in London, do you?"
Elizabeth shrugged, "But that doesn't an we're unaware."
"No politics talk." Lin Wan pointed at a store ahead, "There's a new trendy milk tea shop opened up ahead. I've wanted to try it. Let's queue up."
"So many people?"
"It's less crowded than usual at this ti."
...
Half an hour later, the five of them were each holding a cup of milk tea as they walked down the path to the inner riverbank.
"Delicious! I didn't expect so many flavors in Hua Country drinks!" Catherine exclaid.
George sighed, "I feel like we ca late..."
Elizabeth looked around, "It's quite crowded..."
"This is basically the most crowded place in Hai City," Lin Wan explained.
As Lin Wan spoke, they walked out of the narrow path and then...
A sea of people.
Elizabeth, "..."
The sheer number of people made Elizabeth and the others feel like turning back.
But since they were there, they might as well explore.
The five strolled along the riverbank, then turned back to Nandu Pedestrian Street Plaza, wandered around the mall, and casually had so Hua Country specialty snacks for supper.
"You're here in Hua Country. Any places you want to visit?" Lu Zheng asked.
George shook his head, "We don't know much about Hua Country, so I might as well ask you directly."
Lu Zheng smiled, "You must have so preferences, like natural scenery or historical architecture."
"Historical architecture!"
"Great Wall of China!"
"Terracotta Warriors!"
Elizabeth said, "We plan to stay in Hai City for a few days with you and then travel to other places."
Lin Wan laughed, "It's fine, we also have a three-day holiday for New Year's, so we can go play together."
"That's great, where to?"
Lin Wan looked at Lu Zheng with amusent, "Three days isn't long, and we can't go too far. How about Hangzhou West Lake? The snow scenery at West Lake is quite beautiful too."
