The fog incident has taken a new turn. A curfew has already begun in the evenings, leaving the streets deserted except for the occasional sound of patrols and so special individuals or creatures flashing by. Li Xin is among them.
Qi Badao must have made a major discovery.
Over ten minutes later, Li Xin arrived at the designated secret eting place he and Qi Badao had agreed upon in the city. Li Xin waited quietly; Qi Badao would definitely co here first, no guessing needed—unless he couldn’t make it.
A mont later, the floor moved slightly, revealing a head covered in gri and darkness. Li Xin pulled Qi Badao out right away, causing Qi Badao to almost faint in fright. The mont he saw Li Xin, he breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed on the floor, gasping for fresh air.
Li Xin steadied Qi Badao and gently infused him with Spiritual Ability. As it coursed through Qi Badao’s body, he surprisingly regained so strength, looking at Li Xin in astonishnt.
"What’s the situation?" Li Xin asked gravely. Every second counted now, and Luo Jin might be under imnse pressure. If he couldn’t hold it, things could go wrong at any mont. Montreal must not be let out.
"Brother Xin, I’ve been staking out, and the Inhaler really did appear. I almost lost my life, but thankfully, I was smart enough to smuggle a Hex Bomb," Qi Badao recounted what happened, "This monster is much more formidable than the Licker. With the Licker, I would at least dare to fight a few rounds, but this one..."
Thinking of this, Qi Badao was left with lingering fear. What was he thinking? Since when had he beco so bold, daring to provoke the Inhaler???
"Any other notable details?" Li Xin asked. "Did you co across anyone who shouldn’t be in the Underground City?"
"I really paid attention but found nothing special," Qi Badao carefully recalled. His mory was excellent. "Is it possible that this Inhaler is actually from the Underground City?"
"No, it’s unlikely," Li Xin shook his head. "If it were a Licker from the Underground City, it couldn’t have stayed hidden until now."
Once soone from the Underground City falls, it’s inevitably rapid and irreversible. Moreover, the mist culprit in the Celestial Capital has an exceptional degree of self-control and can manage their desires. This is sothing no one from the Underground City could achieve, not to ntion conveniently assassinating Kurt...
Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck Li Xin’s mind. "Qi Badao, did any officials appear?"
"Huh?" Qi Badao was montarily stunned but quickly caught on. "Night Patrol, oh, right, mbers of the Knight Order have also been here."
"Co with back to Night Patrol!" Li Xin felt he’d grasped the key point and had to report to Luo Jin imdiately.
"Uh, this doesn’t seem right..."
Before he could finish speaking, Qi Badao felt himself being lifted, with Li Xin handling him like a chick.
Qi Badao covered his face. So be it, let everything be destroyed.
Li Xin took a shortcut to Night Patrol’s headquarters with Qi Badao quickly. The headquarters was now in chaos, with the main personnel already dispatched to the Black Water District in the Underground City. But Luo Jin hadn’t gone because the Inhaler wouldn’t wait in place. Figuring out the current crux was crucial; otherwise, they’d be played around.
"Old Luo, Old Luo, Li Xin is here, and he has important clues!" Kathy barged in excitedly, not realizing whom she was calling.
Luo Jin imdiately stood up and saw Li Xin with a filthy, slly Qi Badao. Qi Badao wiped his hair, trying to maintain the last bit of dignity of a gangster powerhouse.
Li Xin relayed the information to Luo Jin, whose eyes glimred with light. "You an there isn’t just one Inhaler, and another is definitely closely connected with Montreal, while this person is also a Knight Order mber?"
"Yes, Montreal is still a Viscount. When I checked his whereabouts several tis, things didn’t match up, yet the Inhaler still appeared. It’s highly likely there’s another person. Why did the Inhaler so conveniently target Qi Badao? It’s because, among all the gangs, only Qi Badao was fully assisting Night Patrol in finding the Inhaler. The opposing party could obtain this information; only mbers of the Night Patrol, City Guard, and high-ranking Knight Order could, apart from Night Patrol. The Knight Order had also been to Black Water. Since when have they been so proactive?"
"When coincidences pile up, it’s inevitable." Luo Jin looked at Qi Badao. "Well done, Qi Badao. Did you notice any characteristics of the Inhaler?"
Qi Badao had almost wanted to boast, but hearing this gave him a chill. "There was no ti for that. My first reaction was to run, didn’t even dare to look back."
It was already a miracle he survived; any mont of hesitation would have left him as a broken dead body.
"Old Luo, there’s a rumor in the circle that Montreal has an illegitimate child in the Knight Order," Kathy suddenly said. "It’s suspected to be Philmy, a squad leader of the Knight Order, though there’s no certainty."
Montreal had a daughter, but her entire estate was monitored by the Night Patrol, making it impossible for her to leave.
"When it cos to nobles, rumors are truer than gold," Luo Jin remarked.
"According to Qi Badao, the Inhaler was hit by a Hex Bomb, which allows them to heal quickly. However, the Hex scent will linger and can’t be eliminated in a short ti!" Kathy continued.
All three looked at Kathy. ...So this was the real expert!
"Let’s go!"
Qi Badao is an important witness and will stay with the Night Patrol; it’s the safest place here. The three of them headed towards the Knight Order with the Night Patrol.
When they reached the gate of the Knight Order, they were stopped. Luo Jin didn’t care about formalities anymore; they would offend them sooner or later, so he didn’t hesitate and forced their way in with his saber.
Count Trangel, the leader of the Knight Order, was also alerted. He wasn’t surprised to see Luo Jin, but looked at Luo Jin with a burning gaze, "Captain Luo, you’re not thinking of arresting too, are you?"
Count Trangel didn’t regard Luo Jin highly. Forget Luo Jin, even the Chief Bishop didn’t have that authority. If Luo Jin dared to cause trouble, he’d be beaten half to death and thrown out.
Luo Jin’s expression didn’t change as he saluted. "Your Excellency the Count, you’re joking. We indeed discovered a significant clue about the fog killer related to Philmy. We need him for further verification now!"
Although Count Trangel was an old aristocrat, he belonged to the reformist faction and held significant power. The Knight Order was undoubtedly the largest military force in the Celestial Capital. Seeing Luo Jin’s serious expression and respectful attitude, he understood the gravity of the situation and was aware of the real relationship between Philmy and Montreal.
If it were sothing else, he might not give face or even punish Luo Jin, but he had no reason to shield Montreal in this matter.
"Bring Philmy here," Count Trangel said indifferently.
The knights brought Philmy over shortly. Philmy, slling a bit of alcohol, looked surprised to see Count Trangel, "Damn it, who tattled? Heh heh, Captain, I was wrong. I won’t drink during work hours again."
Trangel glanced at Philmy, "The Night Patrol wants you."
Hearing this, Philmy tilted his eyes, "Oh, what are you guys doing in the Knight Order? What, can’t catch the killer yourselves and blaming us?"
Kathy silently nodded. On the way, Luo Jin instructed her to nod if Philmy slled and shake her head if he didn’t; she didn’t need to directly confront him.
Despite the sll of alcohol, Kathy could clearly distinguish the lingering scent of the Hex Bomb explosion. It was too obvious; her nose was extraordinarily sensitive, sharp, and precise.
"Philmy, where did you just go?" Luo Jin asked.
"I went to drink secretly. Even if I’m wrong, it’s not your Night Patrol’s place to judge!" Philmy was completely nonchalant.
Luo Jin looked at Trangel as if seeking permission. Philmy looked at his captain and was just about to speak when suddenly an alarm appeared. Luo Jin’s knife had already stabbed an inch into Philmy’s chest lightning-fast, shocking everyone around.
Luo Jin’s expression was stern because his knife was clamped by writhing muscles; there was no bleeding on the blade. Philmy’s expression contorted, completely not expecting Luo Jin to attack in front of the Knight Order’s captain. His body instinctively mutated.
Instantly, the surrounding knights and Night Patrol all stared fixedly at Philmy. Trangel’s face also looked extrely unpleasant. Those writhing muscles were not sothing a human could possess. A monster had infiltrated the Knight Order, and was even at the captain level.
Luo Jin looked at Philmy calmly, "You’re much too young for Montreal."
Philmy’s expression kept changing. Now it was too late to revert back, seeing the eyes of his colleagues around, he knew explaining was pointless. He bit his teeth and showed a strange expression, "Luo Jin, you’re courting death!"
Suddenly Philmy pulled away and broke free from the saber, lunging towards the Knight Order’s wall like a giant wall-climbing lizard, quickly scuttling away on all fours. Luo Jin nodded slightly, "Thank you, Your Excellency the Count. I’ll continue the chase after the criminal. There might be a need for you to testify later."
"It’s every citizen’s duty in the Celestial Capital," Trangel nodded. "I’ll inform the City Hall."
"Thank you, Sir!"
Watching Luo Jin’s figure disappear, Trangel withdrew his gaze. He had sensed sothing amiss when Philmy’s body reeked of alcohol. That lad was usually cautious, especially obedient in front of him. Today’s overreaction was covering sothing up.
He admired Luo Jin’s decisive action. If it were Montreal, he wouldn’t dare. After all, that was a Viscount, and Philmy was only an illegitimate child, inexperienced and young.
Looking at Montreal now, even if there’s nothing wrong with him, there’s still the responsibility of concealing it. Trangel sighed, fearing the Celestial Capital was about to descend into chaos.
Luo Jin did not have Li Xin and the others follow; he pursued Philmy alone. When he opened his eyes again, they had turned into a completely empty white, the "White Pupil" of his secret vision.
A faint thread appeared. When his blade stabbed into Philmy, it left a mark. No matter how Philmy ran, he couldn’t escape Luo Jin’s tracking.
Philmy considered himself extrely fast. He wasn’t afraid of Luo Jin but the Knight Order. No matter how powerful he was, he didn’t think he could single-handedly take on the entire Knight Order. Moreover, Trangel, that old fellow, was not easy to deal with.
Philmy’s heart held no fear, but rather a peculiar thrill. He could hunt freely now, actually more liberated. Damn it, the insect behind him, lure him outside and finish him off. He’s old, but with ample Spiritual Ability.
Such a feast, hehehehe...
