"Driver, to Xuanlong Temple." Zhang nglong got into a taxi and imdiately headed towards the temple.
The ancient temple was located on the outskirts of the city, about an hour's drive away. After going through two attacks by the Grim Reaper earlier, Zhang nglong felt sowhat drowsy, but he forced himself to stay alert, as this was the ti when the Grim Reaper was most likely to strike.
"Young man, here for sightseeing?" the driver was quite talkative.
"Yes, how did you figure it out?"
"The way you're dressed is not common around here," the driver chuckled.
"That's true," Zhang nglong nodded.
"Heading to Xuanlong Temple for blessings?"
"Yes, I've been having bad luck recently," Zhang nglong replied, "A group of us ca for a trip, and two friends died in a car accident. Other friends encountered an exploding barbecue truck. I managed to survive, so I'm here to ward off bad luck!"
"Well, you've co to the right place," the driver opened up, "This Xuanlong Temple is known for its efficacy. A few years ago, another group of tourists faced extrely bad luck with car explosions, plane crashes, and hotel electrocutions, and many people died."
"A few years ago?" Zhang nglong was taken aback.
Could normal people be that unlucky? Definitely not! It's very likely that they were the last batch undergoing trials in this world, but the trials occur once every ten years, and for the sa world to reappear, it could take hundreds or even thousands of cycles. How could it be just a few years ago?
[Dean, it's nothing strange. Perhaps in this Nine-story Tower world, ti flows differently than in other places.]
"That's possible too," Zhang nglong nodded, "Driver, do you know what happened to those people later?"
"I only know a rough idea," the driver said, "I just rember that year there were many accidents. Coincidentally, it happened to that group of foreign tourists. Later, they heard about Xuanlong Temple's efficacy, so they all went there, and so even took my cab."
"Speaking of that group," the driver showed a pained expression, "One had an amputated arm, another had a steel rod through their chest, and one had half their shoulder crushed. It was terrible! I suggested taking them to a hospital, but they insisted on going to the temple."
"Seems like this temple has sothing more than just prosperity and efficacy," Zhang nglong thought to himself.
"Later, I heard they prayed and chanted with the temple monks every day and incredibly didn't encounter any more bad luck, and then returned ho."
"Oh, there's one more thing," the driver ntioned, "I heard that during their stay at the temple, there were strong winds and dark clouds around it, but in the temple's central area, it was sunny and clear. Isn't that strange?"
"That is indeed very strange," Zhang nglong beca more interested in the temple.
He initially pondered the Grim Reaper and the world's peculiarities. It seed like so clues could be found in this temple.
...
"Look, do you see that ancient temple?"
After about fifty minutes, an ivory-white tall tower appeared in Zhang nglong's view. It was a temple built centered around the ancient structure.
The tower stood about 50 ters tall, with an architectural style that was quite rustic.
As Zhang nglong approached the ancient temple, he surprisingly noticed a black mist emanating from within himself. This mist, visible to the naked eye, carried an aura of death.
The black mist swirled around him for a while before being reabsorbed. However, roughly one-tenth of it was completely expelled.
"This temple has sothing special," Zhang nglong was pleased. He hadn't hoped the temple would completely dispel the ominous forces, but it was clearly effective.
"Alright, sir, I can only drop you off at the base. You'll need to walk up from here."
"Thank you," Zhang nglong said, casually transferring the fare to the driver.
"Received paynt: 1 million Blue Crystal Yuan!"
"What?" The driver was stunned, "Sir! Sir! You gave too much!"
"Driver, you risked your life getting here. It's not too much," Zhang nglong waved his hand dismissively.
"Risked my life?" The driver looked at Zhang nglong, puzzled. It was just a short taxi trip. How was it life-threatening?
Of course, he didn't know that Zhang nglong had caught the Grim Reaper's attention, with three tis the usual focus. Going a whole hour without an attack was highly fortuitous.
If luck had been against them, the car could have exploded or faced another traffic accident at any mont, making the trip indeed perilous.
...
Zhang nglong began to walk toward the mountain, surrounded by devoted pilgrims, so progressing by prostrating every three steps.
While Zhang nglong was sowhat Buddhist himself, after joining the Super God Academy, he confird the existence of divine beings and Buddhas. But he wondered if those deities could fight as well as his parents.
Each step he took dissipated so of the black mist on his body, as if an unseen force was purifying the Grim Reaper's curse in this place.
When Zhang nglong reached Xuanlong Temple's entrance, the last trace of black mist was wholly dispelled.
Looking back, he saw the mist in the sky forming into the image of a Grim Reaper, brandishing its scythe at him.
"Wow, there really is sothing nasty on !" Zhang nglong gave the sky the middle finger.
However, the mist seed relentless, and the sky began pouring rain visibly fast, shrouding everything in dark clouds. Only within a 100-ter radius around the temple was it sunny.
Seeing this bizarre phenonon, the believers thought a miracle had occurred and knelt to pray fervently.
"I hope this temple is sturdy enough," Zhang nglong thought. He was sure the Grim Reaper wouldn't give up its pursuit easily. Such a loophole wouldn't be allowed. There's bound to be a limit.
"Excuse , sir, please stop!" As Zhang nglong was about to enter the temple, a young monk suddenly blocked his way.
"Little monk, is there sothing you need?" Zhang nglong crouched down.
"Sir, you cannot enter Xuanlong Temple."
"If others can enter, why can't I?"
"I sense a force accompanying you around Xuanlong Temple. If you do not leave, both Xuanlong Temple and the ancient site may face danger."
"Oh?" Zhang nglong was surprised. The young monk was not only perceptive but also quite skilled, able to sense such a force.
"Little monk, could you make an exception?" Zhang nglong asked, "I can donate a sum of money to your temple. You see, the temple looks quite rundown. A Buddhist sanctuary shouldn't look this shabby, right?"
"Sir, we monks live by fate, not by money," the young monk said.
Actually, the temple was thriving with offerings, but Xuanlong Temple donated all its earnings to various charitable causes, sothing the driver had ntioned to Zhang nglong.
"Fate, is it?" Zhang nglong took out a card, "I will donate 1 billion Blue Crystal Yuan to your temple, and I'll only stay for three months. How about that?"
