After the pre-war eting for Version 1.1 ended.
Carl spent a great deal of effort before he finally convinced Irene that he would definitely be fine afterward.
He told Irene to feel at ease and continue maintaining her character setting in Version 1.1, where she was a roadside background character in the plot, but had never lost in terms of strength.
And after painting her a big promise that he would definitely arrange a storyline for her to shine brightly in the future.
Carl directly returned to the monitoring room in his underground laboratory from the main world.
The mont Carl arrived in the monitoring room, he discovered that there was an uninvited guest inside.
At first, Carl thought she might be an assassin sent by the officials of Oath or sothing like that.
But what this uninvited guest was doing really did not look like sothing an assassin would do!
She was lying beside the gaming table Carl had built for the players, using her tongue to lick the edge of the side where Carl often stood.
"What are you doing?"
Carl sized up this girl, whose entire body gave off an inhuman feeling.
Whether it was her hair or her skin, neither had any color to speak of, but that only made her indigo pupils stand out even more, along with the strange feeling of her equally indigo tongue and mouth.
And her tongue was long like so kind of snake's. In short, at first glance, she looked human, but when you thought about it carefully, she had a kind of inhuman beauty that did not seem quite human.
"Tasting the emotional flow left behind by the players."
She did not seem to think there was anything disgusting about what she was doing.
After seemingly eating so kind of delicious food, this strange girl used her long tongue to moisten her lips before stopping her al.
"The emotional flow left behind by the players? In any case, as a visitor, introduce yourself first."
Carl noticed that there was also a huge scythe placed beside her. It had the sa indigo and silver-white color sche.
This luxurious setup made Carl guess that she might be a future banner character in Oath.
After all, this kind of alien, inhuman design was still a very striking character design in a second-generation gacha circle full of beautiful girls.
Unfortunately, Carl guessed wrong. She was not even a character from Oath.
"My na is Artemis. Elysium sent here to assist you, and also to review your first side story, which may also be your last side quest, as you write it."
She spoke to Carl in a tone with no emotional fluctuation at all.
"If your side story can gather enough popularity among the players, Elysium can satisfy one request of yours, as long as it is not too excessive."
So she was a special envoy from Elysium?
And a not-too-excessive request. Did adding a skip button to Oath's main storyline count?
Fine. Carl was not going to waste such a precious wish opportunity on cleaning up the ss for the Oath developnt team.
But compared to that, Carl sensed an extrely ominous aura from her.
"Elysium sent you here? Then why are you carrying the Calamity Virus? Not just carrying it. You are infected with the Calamity Virus, aren't you?" Carl asked.
Carl had been staying in the underground laboratory these past few days, constantly coming into contact with monsters related to the Calamity Virus, so he quickly sensed that this girl was also infected.
"Yes. Since you probably do not know this information, I have been ordered to explain it to you. Infection by the Calamity Virus is divided into three stages."
She still spoke the truth in an extrely flat tone.
"In the early stage, only albinism symptoms appear on the surface of the body. In the middle stage, the body begins to distort and beco alien. In the late stage, one completely loses reason and becos a monster that only knows how to attack others."
After saying this, she picked up the scythe beside her and continued.
"I am an infected individual between the early and middle stages. That is why I still retain my reason and obey Elysium."
"But once infected, regardless of whether it reaches the middle or late stage, to us NPCs, that person can no longer be considered among the living, but among the dead."
"And in your understanding, I am similar to the existence of a grim reaper. A grim reaper who guides infected NPCs to Netherworld Village."
The amount of information in what this girl nad Artemis said was so huge that Carl's thoughts briefly froze for one second.
But Carl quickly organized all the information he had obtained so far and roughly understood what was going on!
To put it bluntly, the world of Elysium had no concept of death!
At least, there was none in the players' ga area. Those ga NPCs would not truly die.
It was a ga world, after all. Players reviving infinitely was normal, and NPCs could also revive infinitely after dying.
Otherwise, if an NPC died and was just gone, what would happen to the side quests on that NPC? Would other players still be able to do them?
But once an NPC was infected with the Calamity Virus, that ant this NPC was truly approaching their death in the real sense!
Once the Calamity Virus developed to its final stage, that NPC would lose reason, distort, and beco a monster. Even Elysium would not be able to save them.
And the true reason Carl's thoughts froze was that he had thought of a terrifying possibility.
"Miss Artemis, answer one question for first."
Carl began to confirm his guess.
"In the gas players played in the past, several 'reset' incidents occurred."
"Players guessed it was because of the Calamity Virus, and those NPCs' mories and bodies were all 'reset.'"
"But looking at it now, those NPCs infected with the Calamity Virus weren't 'reset,' but 'replaced,' right?"
This was what truly sent a chill down Carl's spine.
Why did the NPCs in the gas players had played before suddenly stop rembering the players?
It was not because they had lost their mories, but because they were not the sa people at all!
The previous batch of NPCs with the sa appearances and nas had been infected with the virus and could no longer be saved, so Elysium directly replaced them with a new batch.
That was the most convenient thod.
"That is correct." Artemis, the grim reaper, acknowledged Carl's guess, as if she were talking about sothing extrely insignificant.
"Elysium, this mother figure, really is quite cold-hearted." After hearing this, Carl sighed, then continued.
"But it also has a gentle side. All those replaced NPCs live in Netherworld Village, and were not deleted or abandoned by Elysium, right?"
Rather than calling Netherworld Village Elysium's garbage dump, it was more like a hospice for those infected NPCs.
"Yes. We will continue taking care of them until they lose their reason and are forced into dormancy." Artemis also did not deny Carl's evaluation of Elysium as a stepmother who was cold on the outside but warm on the inside.
It seed that Elysium had not done sothing on the level of a hellish joke, like throwing those NPCs who had lost their reason onto the map for players to farm as mobs.
Otherwise, Carl felt that the next thing the players would form groups to kill would be Elysium itself.
But the existence of Netherworld Village gave Carl an excellent inspiration for writing a side quest.
This was even a ready-made side quest that could make players cry their hearts out!
Carl's original idea for writing his own side quest was actually just to write a love story that would move the players so much they were shaken.
Of course, the romance here did not an Carl dating the players. It ant Carl casually finding a non-banner female character to fall in love with.
As long as the love story was written well enough and was impactful enough, making the players think, "No matter what, I have to be there for this guy's wedding!" then it would be about right.
But Carl felt that this was not enough impact. And now, Carl had found a ready-made giant knife.
This knife would definitely make the players cry and howl from the pain!
So Carl temporarily set aside his idea of writing a love story, leaving it for a future version when there was a chance to write it for the players. For now, he would create a side quest with even more impact first!
So Carl directly said to Artemis, the grim reaper.
"Since you're here to assist in writing a side quest, can I invite those abandoned NPCs in Netherworld Village to help too?"
"I think, since they're all gas developed by the sa company, writing a crossover side story with a previous work shouldn't be a problem!"
"They probably want to see their players again too, right?"
(To be continued.)
