Just as she was trying to stifle a laugh, Adrian Quincy suddenly looked up, his gaze so icy it scared her into unconsciously snapping to attention.
"Since you’ve already apologized to Claire, Mother, you should head back. I doubt Claire can forgive you right away, and I still need to coax her."
Mrs. Quincy: "!!!"
Claire Sinclair: "..."
’Why do I feel like I’ve been caught in the crossfire, but in a good way?’
Mrs. Quincy’s face flushed with anger. She snapped, "Adrian, how can you speak to your mother like that? Where are the manners I taught you when you were a child?"
"Mother, when you disregarded my and Claire’s dignity and humiliated her in front of all our relatives, were you considering the issue of manners then?"
"You— That’s a separate issue! Besides, I already apologized to her!"
"But Mother, you haven’t received Claire’s forgiveness," Adrian Quincy countered, his expression unchanging.
He was her own son, after all. How could Mrs. Quincy not see his true intentions?
She knew that with her son, if Claire Sinclair didn’t say sothing, this trip would be for nothing.
Left with no choice, Mrs. Quincy had to face Claire Sinclair again, her tone displeased. "Claire Sinclair, I’ve already apologized. What more do you want from ?"
"Mrs. Quincy, how could I dare ask anything of you? I’ve accepted your apology. And as for what you want to do, I’ll get it done as soon as possible. However, I might need your help. This son of yours is too busy; I can’t even get him to make ti to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau with for a divorce. What do you think I should do?"
Hearing this, Mrs. Quincy imdiately turned and chided, "Adrian, this is your fault. If you’re getting a divorce, then just get it over with. You’re wasting her ti and holding up your own future happiness."
Adrian Quincy’s cold eyes narrowed slightly. "Who told you I was going to divorce Claire?"
Pfft...
’Eldest Young Master Quincy, that would be , your grandma!’
Mrs. Quincy said angrily, "I just heard it from her—"
"Mother, you taught from a young age that the benevolent see benevolence in others. But now you’ve beco soone who just parrots what others say. How can I trust your words? Please go back. You don’t need to worry about my marriage to Claire. I will handle it myself."
Not wanting to say more, Adrian Quincy finally ordered her to leave.
Mrs. Quincy waved her hand in frustration. "Fine! You just called here to piss off and let your little wife vent her anger. I’m leaving! I’m so mad I could just die..."
Her voice trailed off as she left.
Only the husband and wife remained in the office, and the atmosphere suddenly grew awkward.
Claire Sinclair was still standing where she had been, not having stepped further into the room. She just watched the elegant man sitting at his desk from a distance.
He was smiling, a smile like a refreshing spring breeze, dissipating the unpleasantness that lingered in the office.
"Claire, did that help you feel a little less angry?"
"Not at all. I still want to divorce you." Claire Sinclair’s mind was made up.
The smile on Adrian Quincy’s lips suddenly froze.
Claire Sinclair couldn’t bear to look at his hurt expression, so she averted her gaze and began to back away slowly. "If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going. I need to find an apartnt. As soon as I do, I’m moving out."
’I won’t live with him anymore. That way, I won’t be an eyesore to anyone.’
Hearing her resolve to move out, how could Adrian Quincy possibly remain seated? He rushed out and grabbed her arm. "Claire, don’t go."
"I’ve already made up my mind. When I’m with you, we have nothing in common to talk about, aside from... that stuff in bed. This isn’t the life I want. Please, stop pestering ."
"Claire..."
