As she tried to struggle, the man suddenly lifted her from the chair. Startled, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.
The man carried her to the sofa and continued what he had started.
Claire froze, her heart pounding erratically. She watched nervously, fearfully, as the man’s face drew closer.
"M-Mr. Quincy..."
"Hm?"
"I..."
"What is it?"
Adrian Quincy had to suppress his overwhelming desire and stop to let her finish.
Claire gingerly raised a hand, placing it on his taut abs and pushing him away.
"I want to go to sleep. I have to get up early tomorrow."
"..."
Adrian Quincy’s cold eyes narrowed, and an intimidating chill emanated from him.
Claire’s heart sank, and she said urgently, "I’ve heard it’s really painful the first ti, and it affects how you walk. Tomorrow is such an important day; I don’t want to be ungraceful in front of the First Lady!"
Hearing this, Adrian Quincy’s gaze softened considerably. "Fine, I won’t touch you," he said in a deep voice, "but you have to help ."
"H-How can I help?"
"I showed you last ti."
"..."
’No way, my hand’s going to be so sore!’
...
「That night.」
Claire didn’t know how she’d fallen asleep, but she woke up in the dead of night, parched. She got out of bed to find so water.
As she passed the door to the adjacent bedroom, it suddenly swung open, making her jump.
There stood Adrian Quincy in white pajamas, his hair still dripping. He looked like he had just gotten out of the shower.
’A shower this late? What was he doing all this ti?’
Adrian Quincy spoke first. "Why are you still up?"
"I woke up thirsty and ca to get so water. Why are you up too?"
"It’s nothing. Get so water and go back to bed."
With that, Adrian Quincy turned to go back to his room.
Claire called out to him, "Mr. Quincy!"
Adrian Quincy stopped and turned back to face her.
"Don’t work so late. You should get so sleep."
"Mm." The man nodded.
"Well, I’ll head downstairs then..." Claire said, walking past him and down the stairs.
A few minutes later, Claire returned to the second floor after getting her drink. As she passed the man’s room, she saw light seeping from the crack of the door and caught the faint scent of smoke.
’That guy... why isn’t he sleeping? And why does it sll like smoke?’
Claire couldn’t help but knock on the door. "Mr. Quincy, may I co in?"
"Co in."
With his permission, Claire pushed the door open.
The thick sll of smoke hit her imdiately. She caught him just as he was stubbing out a cigarette in an ashtray.
"You smoke? You shouldn’t smoke!" Claire walked over, glaring at him in disapproval.
The man looked up slightly, eting her eyes. His deep, dark eyes held a sharp glint.
Claire froze for a second, her indignation deflating. "I didn’t an anything by it... It’s just, smoking is bad for you. My grandfather died of throat cancer because he smoked too much."
"Alright. I won’t smoke anymore." The man was surprisingly agreeable.
Claire was pleasantly surprised. She’d thought his silence ant he was angry.
’Wait a minute, I’m missing the main point.’
"Why aren’t you asleep?"
"I can’t sleep," Adrian Quincy said calmly.
At this, Claire grew displeased again. "If you can’t sleep, you must be letting your mind run wild. What is there to worry about? Worries are for the dayti; night is for sleeping."
Adrian Quincy was silent for a mont before suddenly saying, "Why don’t you stay and sleep with ?"
"!!!"
’I almost peed my pants!’
’Earlier, in the living room, my arm felt like it was going to fall off, and I ended up having to use... other ans...’
’Ahem. Utterly mortifying. A mory best forgotten.’
