I made a brief head count of the people that had managed to escape the gate with . There was Cressida, there was Odelia and Ophelia, all three slumped on the horse, completely unconscious.
Then with Maggie there was Nisha and Milo, those two also out cold. They looked worse than the others, like they needed urgent dical attention.
Actually, all of them needed dical attention!
I belatedly slipped off the horse, and when I lay on the ground I glanced around to take in my surroundings.
I was in the woods, but it was clearly different from the woods that had led us into the Spirit Gate in the first place.
This forest was twisted. There were a lot of leaves on the ground, leaves that had gone a sickly yellowish color. The trees that stretched across the expanse had charred black bark and their branches were stripped bare, as if they had all just withstood so tornting storm that had sucked the life out of everything in its path.
While I was stranded in a strange place with the bodies of my company mbers, the sa people who had confidently told to trust them, I didn’t feel it in to search any further for where exactly I’d ended up.
I was tired too.
I simply lay on the ground and stared at the canopy of the forest.
The sky was dark and starry. A wide and seemingly endless expanse of dark blue, scattered with sparkling specks.
I blinked and continued to observe the starry sky.
Beside , sowhere around , Maggie and Cindy were there, standing and waiting. I could even hear the destroyer’s snort from ti to ti.
But at so point, the snorts grew fainter, drifting further and further away. My consciousness was foggy, and the short rest I’d intended was pulling under far deeper than I’d planned.
But at the sa ti, I didn’t fret so much. Maggie was here after all.
And I was out of the gate... Nothing was stopping Kassie from coming to if my life was in great jeopardy.
So why not sleep?
Just as I gave in to it, I heard a call.
"Cade! Cade!!"
’That voice... I recognize it.’
Even in the fogginess of my mind there was no way I wouldn’t recognize Lira’s voice.
It was Lira that was calling out to .
"Lira! You’re alive?!"
All the fogginess clouding my mind cleared at once and I lunged upright from where I was.
But my scenery was different.
I turned my head and found myself within the walls of my room. Where I had lunged from was my bed, and next to it there was a lady whose blonde hair scattered across the sheets.
Half of her body was draped on the bed while the other half was kneeling on the ground.
’She seems to have fallen asleep while she was tending to soone... ?’
I looked at myself, then looked at the lady.
Indeed, I was cleaned up. No part of my muscles ached anymore and my armor was gone, replaced by a simple thin grey linen shirt.
’I’m in my room... I’m changed, there’s a lady next to ... isn’t this the classic?’
A grin spread across my face. For so reason I felt like I could understand why I suddenly heard Lira calling to .
If this wasn’t the sa situation as our first eting, I didn’t know what it was. The only difference was whoever had designed ours had gone the extra mile...
For this one, they didn’t seem to put in a lot of effort.
I exhaled and shrugged.
’It’s not like they can cuddle forever, right?’
Right. I agreed with my genius self. Hence I started to get ready to get down to business.
I pulled off my shirt first and for a mont, I couldn’t help but be distracted by my aweso muscles.
I had changed since that day when I t Lira in the hospital. Although my muscles were lean, they were far more defined now, their contours clearer than ever before. The kind of build that made shirts an obstacle rather than an accessory.
’Very nice.’
I ran my hand through the lady’s golden-blonde hair and felt its silkiness.
I inhaled deeply, like I was breathing in the very feeling of the hair itself.
’Pulling her hair while fucking her from behind would hit the spot... hm hm.’
"What are you doing?"
"What am I doing? I’m..."
I paused the mont the owner of the voice fully registered in my head.
"Uh? Kassie?"
I slowly turned towards the entryway. Kassie was standing there, donned in a casual gown with her hands folded beneath her breasts. Behind her was Maggie, who raised her head and looked at with disappointnt.
Her gaze caused a tear in my heart. Majorly because I genuinely thought both of us were going sowhere already. We had especially gotten closer in this gate, hadn’t we?
I was willing to build on the small victories. And Kassie... we had even been much better when we conversed with our ntal link.
But all of a sudden, the two of them had caught in a situation like this...
This... misunderstanding...
This was unfair... It was genuinely unfair to whoever had thought it fit to throw into a misunderstanding like this one. That person, deity, or cosmic force responsible, I hoped they choked.
’I wasn’t even doing anything wrong! I was appreciating the scenery! The scenery just happened to be attached to a woman!’
Kassie gave a look of pure disbelief.
"You were hauled all the way here, unconscious. You suffered damages that had taken a while to heal and the next thing you think about doing when you wake up... is harassing soone who helped nurse you back to life?"
My gaze faltered, my eyes widening as I shook my head.
"What? No! No! This is a complete misunderstanding, Kassie, Maggie, guys, listen, I was roped into this situation!"
The lady gently ruffled and stood up, her eyes taking a mont to boot as she rolled her gaze and registered everyone in the room.
There was silence for a mont.
Then she suddenly shot to her feet and bowed ninety degrees towards .
"My ntor! Forgive , I didn’t realize I was that exhausted!" She shouted and bit down on her lips in the pain of regret.
There was another stretch of silence. Drenched to the bone in confusion, I raised my hand and pointed to myself.
’? When did I beco soone’s ntor...?’
But the lady, she quickly gestured with her hand for to move aside. She did it so casually, so disrespectfully, that I felt awkward for a mont.
Then I slowly moved to the side. I had been blocking her view of Kassie.
"My ntor..." she said, stylishly stealing a glance at Kassie’s face.
Kassie, anwhile, was looking at instead of looking at her. She shook her head and turned to her finally.
"It was not your fault that you slept. You should get more rest... kindly excuse us."
I was a bit taken by surprise at Kassie’s polite tone.
’Has she been taking social lessons while I was in the gate?’
The lady straightened and quickly stepped out of the room. It was only as she turned that I caught a proper glimpse of her face, and while it was indeed sparkling and radiantly resplendent, that was not the quality that rang the loudest bell.
It was her chest.
’How could I forget?!’
As she hurried outside, her massive breasts jiggled with every step. And for a mont, I rembered exactly where I had seen those breasts before.
I didn’t even need to think far. My brain fed the information imdiately.
’The elf lady! The one this whole rescue mission was all about.’
I was so close... and yet so far.
’If only they hadn’t interrupted. Who knows what would’ve happened.’
Kassie glared at . "Are you hating us for coming in ti and ruining how this was supposed to go for you?"
I flinched.
’Jesus, did she read my mind?!’
"What?! No!" I quickly responded and added a smile. "There was absolutely nothing going wrong. In fact, I think you guys ca in just in ti."
Kassie’s glare persisted for a mont. Maggie too was there, looking at with downturned lips.
Then Kassie shook her head and sighed.
"You woke up. You are not even worried about the people who risked their lives. Soldiers who marched with you to battle. You do not care for their wellbeing. All you care for are your dented and outrageous satisfaction for fleeting pleasures."
I stared at her, blinking.
’She really is angry...’
"Oh right, how are they?" I belatedly asked, scratching my head.
Kassie turned to and looked at with disbelief.
"What?? You said I didn’t ask of them. And here I am asking..." I said and quickly avoided her gaze.
She looked at and shook her head again.
"They received intensive care in the past two days. The Aelvirian slaves were a great help. However, there is a problem that even the Black Snow Company might not be able to solve."
"Yeah, I know that kind of problem. It’s the only kind of problem you create." I said it with a giggle.
But for so reason... I was the only one that found it funny.
Even Kassie was not giving her usual small smile before going ahead to ignore . And Maggie... well, I didn’t particularly think a laugh on her face would be sothing I wanted to look forward to.
I cleared my throat.
"Ahem, seems that wasn’t funny..."
I looked at them seriously.
"So what is the trouble?"
