Kaly, the leader of the hunters, was lying on the ground while her clothes were torn, leaving her chest almost bare, Ebony stood over her holding her shield, pressing only the tal edge against her skin.

"Wha... What was that? I... I had died..." Kaly said, trying to understand what had happened.

"Relax, I just brought you back, it’s called defibrillation, it’s a neat trick they taught ... Though I might’ve overdone it a little..."

Ebony said with concern as one of the furs covering the girl’s body began to burn.

Quickly, the blonde put out the small fla and let out a sigh of relief, her idea of using her shield’s electric magic had worked.

"This... I..." Kaly tried to find the right words to express her gratitude, she was still alive thanks to that girl, the sa one she had kidnapped just a few hours ago.

Guilt sealed the white-haired woman’s lips while Ebony, focused, began treating her wounds.

First, she selected the largest cuts and with gauze soaked in healing potion she began closing them, for the smaller ones she started inserting burning pieces of wood to purify her magical energy.

The fire coming from the pieces of wood was reddish like blood and even released small sparks of lightning, sothing that caught Ebony’s attention, however she had too much work ahead of her to ask about it.

After long hours of work, now deep into the night, Ebony wiped the sweat from her forehead and sighed in relief, in front of her, her patient was finally asleep.

Kaly’s body was covered in bandages and marked with several scars from the rudintary treatnt, but she was out of danger.

The hunters then carried their leader on an improvised stretcher to her tent.

Ebony was exhausted, panting from the effort of using her magic in such an improvised way.

"(Damn... I’m already drained, this healing thod is so inefficient, wasting my spell over and over on gauze when I could just heal directly with magic is stupid... I’m useless)" Ebony thought while catching her breath.

At that mont, a hand on her shoulder interrupted her thoughts, it was Lucian.

"Well done... I don’t know how you co up with these things, but you’re honestly impressive... You managed to save everyone." Lucian said with a proud smile.

"... Don’t be stupid, of course I was going to pull it off, they were just a few wounds." Ebony replied, looking away and crossing her arms.

"I see the lovebirds are getting along in my absence." A voice said as it approached.

Lucian and the arrogant blonde opened their eyes in surprise when they saw Daniel standing in front of them, their friend who had previously rejected the idea of traveling with them.

"Huh? Daniel? What the hell are you doing here? What daycare did you escape from this ti?" Ebony said with a grin as she walked toward him.

"Good to see you too, grumpy shorty." Daniel replied with a faint smile as he greeted Ebony with an open palm, taking her hand respectfully.

Ebony raised an eyebrow at his impersonal gesture, but after rembering his situation as a Visitor, she could only sigh, resigned to her friend’s coldness.

"What are you doing here, Daniel? I thought you were going ho or sothing, I don’t know, running far away maybe."

Lucian asked as he approached and shook his hand.

"Well actually... I ca as fast as I could to warn you about that guy." Daniel looked away for a mont, observing the place that looked like a battlefield.

What stood out the most was the gigantic black serpent still unconscious on the ground and the corpse of a dark elf.

"That guy stopped by the Pink Unicorn bar and I managed to overhear that he was looking for the necklace you’re carrying... So yeah, I didn’t want to miss the action, though I guess that’s already over," Daniel said with a sigh of relief.

"I would’ve liked to arrive sooner, but the Solar Horse summoning scroll Russel gave was useless. Because of my half-undead condition, apparently the spirits didn’t like , so I had to co on foot," the young man ntioned.

"Don’t worry, thanks for coming," Ebony said with a smile, gently patting the young man’s shoulder.

"Heh... By the way... where did you get that snake from?" Daniel asked, pointing at the gigantic creature.

When Ebony looked at the massive serpent, she realized it wasn’t in good condition. She had been so busy with the injured hunters that she had only just noticed the Lord of the Lake.

"It’s a Lord of the Lake. It’s sothing like an incarnated spirit that chooses a creature to grant its power and protect the life of a lake... Though it shouldn’t be here. It was my fault it got involved in the fight," Lucian said, guilt weighing down every word.

Ebony approached and touched the serpent’s body, beginning to concentrate to sense its life force and condition.

The gigantic creature had several wounds inflicted by the dark elf’s sword, and corrupt magic was inside it, slowly killing it.

"Damn it, how did I not see this sooner... Shit," Ebony said in concern as she ran for more logs of spiritual energy.

The three friends began helping to heal the great serpent. However, when they tried to purify its body with burning logs, the logs were consud instantly, as if the poisonous energy inside it was too overwhelming.

"What the hell... It works on the others... Why isn’t it working?" the blonde girl wondered, her hands stained with the serpent’s blood from handling its wounds.

At that mont, the serpent had awakened and tried to move. Despite its size, it attempted to drag itself across the ground to return to her side.

It soon failed and began to roar weakly, as if trying to gather courage.

Hearing the sound, Kaly stepped out of her tent. Her entire body was wrapped in bandages, she still had a couple of broken ribs, and there was little blood left in her veins, yet she still approached the serpent.

The white-haired girl caressed its scales while looking into its eyes with sadness.

"... I’m sorry this is your end... I didn’t want to let you go without at least... You... When I threw myself into your body as you twisted together with that monstrous elf, that’s when you suffered these wounds, right?" With a tragic sigh, Kaly shed tears.

"I’m sorry... At the ti it seed like a good idea... But in the end it only sentenced you to death, and instead you... Instead of crushing or chewing up, you chose to shelter gently inside you to protect from the elf."

The serpent’s eyes reacted to the girl’s words, and as it looked at her face, it began to give in to the weight of its eyelids.

"Thank you..."

Kaly, shedding tears of gratitude, lowered her head as the great serpent, the Lord of the Lake, left this world.

Ebony sat down on the ground, looking away helplessly as she realized she had failed to save the life of an innocent being who, in the end, had nothing to do with that conflict.

However, at that mont a faint and small spiritual energy began to erge from the serpent’s mouth and entered Kaly’s body, the serpent had chosen her as its successor.
