"Why is the traffic so bad today?"
"This route is always this congested. Aren’t you used to it yet?"
"It’s not usually this bad. There must be an accident up ahead, right?"
"Probably not. I just checked online. If there was an accident, there would have been a report about it."
The bus, stuck in traffic, hadn’t moved an inch for a long ti. The passengers were all murmuring amongst themselves.
Lin Li gripped a handrail with his right hand, standing near the exit of the bus. He pulled his phone from his pocket to check the ti.
’Damn! Su Yue’s already off work by now. I’m so late. If I’d known, I would’ve just taken the subway.’
After getting ho and taking a shower, Lin Li had imdiately left for the after-school enrichnt center run by Su Yue’s aunt.
He had thought he was leaving well before Su Yue got off work, and that he’d even have to wait for her a while when he arrived.
But he never expected the bus he took to get stuck in a massive traffic jam. What was normally a ten-minute ride had now stretched to over forty minutes, and he still wasn’t there.

Having finally reached his destination after nearly an hour, Lin Li let out a long sigh of relief as he stepped off the bus.
Having been stuck on the road for so long, all the passengers on that bus were more than a little disgruntled.
Later, the bus driver had asked his colleagues back at the company and learned the reason for the jam, which he then explained to the passengers.
The traffic jam was caused by two cars up ahead that had scraped each other. Neither driver was willing to yield, and they had parked their cars in the middle of the road, blocking all traffic.
For such a minor incident, not even a real accident, to block the road for so long... the drivers of those two cars were a special kind of idiot.
Fortunately, those two idiots were eventually taken away by the Security Officers who arrived on the scene. One could imagine that for causing such a severe traffic jam, they would at least be fined. If it was serious enough, they might even be detained for a few days.
After getting off the bus, Lin Li, unfamiliar with this area, opened up the map on his phone to navigate.
The bus stop wasn’t far from the place where Su Yue was helping teach. With the help of his phone’s navigation, Lin Li quickly found the location Su Yue had sent him.
From a distance, Lin Li spotted the naturally beautiful and slender Su Yue. At the sa ti, he also saw a middle-aged man in a suit pestering her.
’What the hell is this guy doing? What era are we in? How dare soone harass a girl like this in broad daylight?’

"Lin Li." Seeing Lin Li, who she had been waiting for, finally appear and shield her from the endlessly talking man, a bright, radiant smile imdiately blossod on Su Yue’s face.
"Don’t misunderstand. I’m not a bad guy. I’m a talent scout from Brilliant Entertainnt Company," the man in the suit explained.
"A talent scout?"
"That’s right, a talent scout. I’m inviting this young lady to join our company... Young man, you’re her friend, right? You should help convince her!
This is a chance to beco a huge star! It’s an incredibly rare opportunity that most people can only dream of! If she passes this up, she’ll regret it for the rest of her life..."
The man in the suit once again launched into a long-winded pitch, trying to win Lin Li over in the hopes that he would help persuade Su Yue to join his company.
However, in trying to win over Lin Li, he had clearly chosen the wrong target.
Lin Li, who had absolutely no interest in celebrities or the entertainnt industry, heard the man in the suit say he wanted to recruit Su Yue to be a big star.
His mind imdiately recalled a news report he’d seen not long ago about so-called talent scouts who used the promise of stardom as a front to scam many young won.
"You can stop talking. This kind of thing depends on whether the person involved is willing. Since my friend doesn’t want to be so big star, please stop harassing her..."
Lin Li cut off the babbling man with a deadpan expression, then turned back to Su Yue and said, "Su Yue, let’s go."
Su Yue’s eyes shimred as she looked at Lin Li. She nodded obediently with a soft "Mm," and turned to leave with him, heading for a taxi stand not far away.
"Hey, Miss Su, this is a once-in-a-lifeti chance! This rare opportunity could change your entire life, you..."
The man in the suit hadn’t finished speaking before Lin Li reached out, grabbed his collar, and gave it a slight tug upward, choking off the rest of his words.
"Let go! We’re all civilized people here, violence is wrong..." The man in the suit was completely shocked. He never expected this young man, who still had the air of a student, to resort to violence without a second word.
Years of attending all sorts of social functions had long since hollowed out the man’s body; he was terribly out of shape.
He knew that if it ca to a real fight, he would absolutely get beaten to a pulp, so he quickly tried to talk his way out of it.
"Hmph... I’m only civilized to civilized people. If you keep pestering her, don’t bla for what happens next." Lin Li tightened his grip on the man’s collar, his gaze sharp as he stared at the man and spoke coldly.
A week ago, a stare like this from Lin Li would have had no effect on the man in the suit.
But now, after having spent the last few days hunting nurous Mutant Beasts in the wilds, Lin Li’s glare sent a bone-chilling cold through the man’s heart.
He could see in the other’s unwavering eyes that if he continued to pester them, the young man would absolutely make good on his threat.
"Okay, I get it. I promise I won’t bother your friend anymore," the threatened man said weakly.
Su Yue was stunned as she watched from the side. She never thought that Lin Li, who was usually as motivated as a salted fish, had such an assertive side to him.
Right now, she was incredibly surprised, but at the sa ti, she felt a sweet warmth in her heart, because Lin Li was doing all this for her.
