The gunshots came from a tube-shaped building at the foot of the mountain. Qiu Tong and Song Yan hid behind the broken walls of the building to investigate the situation.
In the dark night, Qiu Tong and Song Yan laid low for nearly ten minutes without hearing any more gunshots. They exchanged glances and silently retreated to a quieter corner. Song Yan lowered his voice and said, “From the looks of it, the gunshots might have been misfirings while they were adjusting their guns.”
“According to what the resident said earlier, they have already searched the residential buildings and shops in this area. It’s relatively safer.”
“Arrange for a large team to camp here. Stay alert and wait for orders.”
Song Yan put on his pistol and protective gear and continued, “I’ll go and check on the situation when it gets later into the night.”
“I will go and get a general idea of their situation. We will discuss the specific battle plan when I return.”
Song Yan wanted to stand up and leave, but Qiu Tong held onto his arm and insisted with a determined look, “I’ll go with you.”
“If you go alone and encounter danger, it will be very hard for you to escape. The two of us can take care of each other. If we encounter danger, we can discuss countermeasures. Now is not the time to be stubborn. Safety first!”
Song Yan looked at her in surprise and felt relieved.
He could sense that Qiu Tong was concerned about him.
However, Song Yan was not sure if her concern was for him or…Jin Yang?
“The situation is unstable now. There is danger everywhere. The children need your presence and for you to take care of them. I can get a few subordinates to acpany me.”
Song Yan objected to Qiu Tong’s suggestion, but she frowned impatiently. “Stop nagging.”
“Ke Le and the rest can protect the children. Qiu Xingyuan and Ye Luan will also take care of their younger siblings.”
“Your subordinates are good at close bat, but their investigative abilities are inferior to mine!”
“You should know that I’m the best choice!”
Time was ticking away. Song Yan finally relented and agreed to Qiu Tong’s plan. The two of them hurried over to the vicinity of the tube-shaped apartment to investigate.
Qiu Tong gestured to Song Yan and ran around the corner to the back of the tube-shaped building. She realized that the seemingly dilapidated building was filled with noisy music and the sounds of drinking and chatting. Song Yan followed and pointed at a few tents set up in the empty space in front of the building. “There are about a dozen guns, some grenades and gunpowder.”
“But the gunpowder is homemade, so it can’t cause much damage.”
Qiu Tong pointed upstairs and exchanged information with Song Yan in a low voice. “There are about a hundred people. They are disorderly and lax in management.”
It seemed that this gang of hooligans had expanded in a hurry, and there were all sorts of riff-raff mixed in. Only 60% to 70% of them actually had bat skills.
“Let’s go back first.”
Song Yan and Qiu Tong looked at each other, wanting to quietly retreat the way they came.
“Who’s there! Don’t move!”
Outside the apartment building, a gangster holding a gun was hiccuping as he staggered closer. He swung the submachine gun on his shoulder when he saw the two shadows in the darkness. He asked, “Who are you? Why are you here?”
Song Yan and Qiu Tong frowned, knowing that it was not good to make too much noise now.
If they were to attract the other hooligans around the building, they would be in an extremely unfavorable situation!
Qiu Tong’s eyes darted around. She suddenly thought of a way. She grabbed Song Yan’s arm and hurriedly said, “Let me borrow you for a moment!”
Before Song Yan could react, he saw Qiu Tong grabbing his hand and placing it on her waist…
