Now reading: Chapter 16: Fractures Beneath from I Transmigrated Into A Goddess Body In Another World: But I'm a Man, a Fantasy novel by FavouriteJane.

Mason couldn’t sleep last night because technically, the palace insisted the Goddess had rested; servants moved quietly, attendants prepared robes, incense burned to welco a peaceful dawn but inside Athlian’s body, exhaustion lingered like static behind his eyes.

Because sothing was wrong.

The mont sunrise touched the palace towers, Mason felt it again.

A faint pull beneath his ribs.

Athlian stirred uneasily. ’The seal breaking affects divine balance...’

Mason rubbed his forehead while attendants adjusted golden clasps around his shoulders.

"Define affects," he muttered internally.

She hesitated.

That alone worried him.

’When imprisoned gods awaken, dormant bonds respond. Old connections... old instincts.’

Mason froze mid-step. "Oh no."

He already knew what that ant.

Athlian did not deny it. ’My power is reacting.’

And reacting ant emotions amplifying.

Desires strengthening, Impulses losing restraint.

He sighed.

"So cosmic prison failure equals hormonal apocalypse."

Athlian laughed weakly despite herself.

’You reduce divine resonance to very human terminology.’

"Yes," Mason replied. "Because I’m the only person here worried about the consequences."

Unfortunately, the universe appeared uninterested in consequences.

...

Guards doubled patrol routes. Courtiers whispered in clusters. Priests hurried toward the temple district carrying relics ant to stabilize ancient wards.

Everyone felt the disturbance.

Even without understanding it.

Mason walked through the corridor maintaining the calm authority expected of a goddess.

Inside? He was running crisis simulations.

Step one: ancient enemy awakening.

Step two: celestial observers investigating him.

Step three: mysterious divine reactions affecting Athlian’s body.

Fantastic.

A perfect disaster trilogy.

Footsteps fell into rhythm behind him.

He didn’t need to turn because he knew it’s Drama.

He had not left Mason’s side since the night before.

Comforting in a way Mason refused to analyze too deeply.

"You did not rest," Draca observed keenly.

Mason snorted. "Is divine insomnia visible now?"

"You move differently."

Of course he noticed.

Draca noticed everything.

Mason kept walking. "Crisis managent mode."

Draca studied him carefully.

"You carry tension... but also confusion."

Mason glanced sideways. "Are you secretly trained as a therapist?"

Draca almost smiled but his expression softened.

"You do not have to pretend strength when we are alone."

The words landed heavier than expected.

Athlian’s emotions ward instantly.

Mason ignored that feeling aggressively.

"I’m fine," he said.

Which convinced absolutely no one.

...

The damage from the night before was worse up close.

Stone pillars cracked.

Sacred sigils flickered weakly across the ground.

Priests chanted stabilization rites while mages reinforced glowing barriers around a massive sealed structure half-buried beneath the temple floor.

The prison.

Even without seeing inside, Mason felt the presence below.

Assura; waiting and watching.

And disturbingly...aware.

Athlian shivered within him.

’His awakening resonates with old divine bonds.’

Mason frowned. "You keep saying bonds. I don’t like that word."

She did not respond.

Which ant he really wasn’t going to like the answer.

High Priest Leem approached quickly, bowing.

"My Goddess, containnt remains stable for now. But energy fluctuations continue."

"How long before failure?" Mason asked.

Leem hesitated. "Days... perhaps weeks."

Great.

A countdown.

Exactly what every stressed protagonist needed.

As priests resud chanting, Mason stepped closer to the glowing seal etched into the ground.

The mont he crossed the boundary...Power surged violently through

Athlian’s body.

Heat flooded his veins.

His breath hitched.

Not pain but sothing worse.

Athlian gasped internally. ’The proximity amplifies everything.’

Mason’s fingers curled slightly.

His senses sharpened unnaturally...the sound of heartbeats nearby, warmth of bodies around him, subtle scents carried through the air.

Too vivid, intimate and distracting.

Oh no.

He recognized this feeling.

The goddess’s instinct awakening again.

Athlian’s influence surged forward, playful and dangerously sensual.

’Power seeks connection...’

Mason clenched his jaw. "Not here.

Absolutely not here."

Unfortunately, divine instincts did not follow eting schedules.

Energy rippled outward from him unintentionally.

Priests faltered mid-chant.

Several guards inhaled sharply as warmth swept across the area.

Draca stepped closer imdiately.

"My Goddess?"

His voice grounded Mason instantly.

Mason forced the divine aura inward, stabilizing the surge before anyone fully understood what happened.

Leem blinked in confusion. "The seal briefly synchronized with you..."

Mason nodded calmly. "Residual resonance."

Technobabble worked surprisingly well in fantasy settings.

But Draca’s eyes lingered on him.

Concern growing...he felt the shift.

Sothing emotional had slipped through.

And Draca sensed it...again.

Mason requested privacy under the pretense of divine ditation.

Leem dismissed attendants reluctantly.

Only Draca remained.

Of course he did.

The chamber doors closed behind them.

Silence settled.

Mason imdiately leaned against a pillar, exhaling sharply.

"Okay," he muttered. "New problem."

Athlian sounded embarrassed. ’My

emotions are destabilizing.’

"That’s one way to say it."

Heat still lingered beneath his skin.

Unwanted awareness.

Heightened sensitivity.

Every movent felt too real.

Draca approached slowly. "You are unwell."

"I’m fine," Mason said automatically.

Draca stopped directly in front of him.

"No."

His voice softened. "You are struggling."

Mason looked up. And imdiately regretted it.

Because Draca stood close.

And his presence was so warm.

Athlian’s emotions surged again; longing, affection, sothing deeply rooted.

Mason swallowed.

This was dangerous territory.

"You should step back," Mason said carefully.

Draca frowned. "Why?"

Because divine hormones plus emotional vulnerability equals catastrophic decision-making.

Mason searched for logic.

None appeared.

Athlian whispered gently. ’He calms us.’

Which was exactly the problem.

Draca reached out slowly, resting a hand over Mason’s racing heartbeat.

The contact sent a wave of warmth through him.

It was grounding, comforting and devastatingly intimate.

Mason froze.

Draca’s voice lowered. "Your power responds to emotion."

He wasn’t guessing anymore.

He was understanding.

Mason forced humor. "Maybe I just skipped breakfast."

Draca didn’t laugh.

Instead, he said quietly. "You trust ."

Not a question but a realization.

Mason’s defenses weakened for one dangerous second.

"Yes," he admitted before stopping himself.

Athlian’s heart fluttered warmly.

Draca’s expression softened further.

And then...the seal beneath the chamber pulsed violently.

Crimson light erupted through the floor.

Assura’s voice echoed directly into the room.

"Guardian... you grow closer to the lie."

Draca’s eyes sharpened instantly.

Mason’s blood ran cold.

The voice continued. "Ask her... why her soul feels divided."

Silence crashed into the chamber.

Draca turned slowly toward Mason...not accusingly or angrily but searching deeper than ever before.

The first real crack in Mason’s secret had appeared.

And this ti...There was no distraction.

Only Draca’s quiet voice.

"...What does he an?"
