Feiyan’s fists clenched, but the words on the tip of his tongue just wouldn’t co out.
Qiao Xixi saw him standing there silently and frowned. "Are you hungry?"
She picked up a stone pot and poured him a bowl of sweet water. "Here, drink this. It’ll tide you over." With that, she turned and walked over to the stove to help Jin Ling.
Feiyan stared at her back. Just as his fists began to relax, two small hands reached out and gradually enveloped his own, seeming to infuse him with an invisible strength.
Feiyan looked at his children, stunned.
Qiao Qiao and Qiao Ang stared up at him, their large, clear eyes instantly shattering his mounting hesitation. He abruptly shot to his feet and yelled at Qiao Xixi’s back.
"Qiao Xixi, I want to be your beast-husband."
The stone bowl in Qiao Xixi’s hands nearly slipped, but Jin Ling, with his quick reflexes, steadied her arm.
Sunxiao erged from the washroom, his almost translucent face chilling to the extre.
But the mont he moved, Qiao Lie wrapped his arms around his leg.
Sunxiao glanced down at his son.
Qiao Lie looked up at him with his scarlet snake-like eyes and said softly, "My brother and sister also want to live with their father, don’t they?"
Sunxiao’s serpentine eyes darkened, and he remained still.
Qiao Lie lowered his gaze and continued, "Even though I wish Mother’s heart was only for , my brother and sister are her children, too."
Qiao Lie’s temperant was just like Sunxiao’s; he was constantly trying to suppress his strong, possessive feelings for Qiao Xixi. As long as he knew his mother loved him, he could bear it.
Sunxiao was already displeased by Jin Ling’s presence. He was certainly not as open-minded as his son.
He patted Qiao Lie’s head, signaling for him to let go.
The mont Qiao Lie’s hands loosened, Sunxiao strode forward with a cold expression, grabbed Feiyan by the collar, and started dragging him outside.
"You want to be Xixi’s beast-husband? Let’s see if you have the strength for it."
Feiyan paused, then snorted. "Then let’s find out today."
Watching the two of them leave the courtyard, Qiao Xixi grew a little worried. "Sunxiao isn’t going to kill Feiyan, is he?"
"Xixi, are you that worried Sunxiao will hurt the young clan leader?"
Qiao Xixi suddenly couldn’t bring herself to et Jin Ling’s gaze. His intense eyes felt like they could pierce right through her.
"The Clan Leader and the children are here."
A strange glint appeared in Jin Ling’s gilded eyes. "For the Clan Leader’s and the children’s sake, Sunxiao will know his limits."
"Mm."
Qiao Xixi cooked the al with a distracted air, constantly glancing toward the commotion outside the gate.
But they fought their way farther and farther off, until she couldn’t see them clearly anymore.
In terms of beast soul level alone, Feiyan was definitely no match for Sunxiao.
The three youngsters and one elder huddled by the courtyard gate, four heads poking out to watch.
"Grandfather, do you think Father will get flattened by Father Sunxiao?"
Feili frowned. "It won’t co to that. At worst, he’ll just be black and blue."
Qiao Ang winced, already feeling the pain on Feiyan’s behalf.
Outside the gate, Sunxiao’s long tail whipped toward Feiyan, who swiftly transford to evade the blow.
"If I win, you can’t stop from becoming Xixi’s beast-husband."
’Xixi!’
’He dares call her that!’
Sunxiao’s serpentine eyes narrowed. "Win first, then we’ll talk!"
Qiao Qiao brought over so roasted Red Heart Fruits and passed them around. The three youngsters and one elder sat munching on the fruits while analyzing the battle.
"It’s over! Father’s going to lose!"
Just then, with a flick of his long tail, Sunxiao violently flung Feiyan away.
As he was about to hit the ground, Feiyan executed a clean spin and landed firmly on his feet.
The mont he steadied himself, Sunxiao launched another fierce assault.
His light-brown pupils contracted as he quickly retreated. But this ti, Sunxiao gave him no chance to escape. His massive snake body ford a coil, trapping Feiyan completely within it.
The four spectators instantly held their breath.
The coils gradually tightened, and the snow fox’s struggles grew weaker and weaker.
Qiao Xixi couldn’t help herself. Nibbling on a Red Heart Fruit, she walked over. "Feiyan is several tiers below Sunxiao. He’s no match for him."
Her voice was quiet, but every single word reached Feiyan’s ears. He bared his fangs, channeled his beast soul’s energy into them, and bit down on the snake’s body.
Sunxiao’s entire body tensed. His massive head shot up, and a murderous glint ford in the depths of his scarlet eyes.
Feiyan glared back at him, his gaze just as fierce.
Both of them were getting serious now.
Qiao Xixi clearly sensed the shift in atmosphere and tried to step forward, only to be held back by Jin Ling.
"Xixi, if Feiyan wants to join this family, he has to pass Sunxiao’s trial."
Qiao Xixi looked up, stunned. "I never thought about making him my beast-husband."
A faint smile played on Jin Ling’s lips. "You haven’t thought about it now, but does that an you never will?"
Qiao Xixi bit her lip. Inexplicably, flashes of her ti with Feiyan filled her mind. She realized that her past dislike for him had vanished at so point.
"Jin Ling, I don’t know."
Seeing the turmoil in her eyes, Jin Ling sighed softly. "Don’t rush it. We’ll be here for a long ti. Take your ti to think, and take a good look at just how far he’s willing to go for you and for the children."
Qiao Xixi let out a soft breath. ’Jin Ling is right,’ she thought. ’So things just can’t be rushed.’
In the end, Feiyan limped back into the courtyard, bruised and swollen.
To preserve her father’s only presentable feature—his face—Qiao Qiao quickly used her ability to heal his injuries.
Sunxiao entered the courtyard and sat down directly beside Qiao Xixi.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was unusually strange.
Qiao Xixi picked up her bowl. "Let’s eat, let’s eat."
She picked up a piece of at with her chopsticks, and at that very mont, six bowls were thrust out in front of her.
Qiao Xixi was dumbfounded. She looked up at Jin Ling, who simply watched her with gentle eyes.
She glanced at Sunxiao. He remained expressionless, but his bowl showed no signs of being withdrawn.
Feiyan’s handso, fox-like eyes were filled with anticipation.
And the three children looked up at her with adorable, wide eyes, like baby birds waiting to be fed.
Qiao Xixi swiveled her chopsticks and dropped the at into Feili’s bowl.
Feili was in the middle of stuffing a piece of candied Red Heart Fruit into his mouth. When he saw the large piece of at, he laughed. "Xixi, you’re too kind..."
Before he could finish, he felt several pairs of intense eyes on him, and the words suddenly caught in his throat...
That night, Feili and Feiyan were walking ho.
Feili walked with his hands clasped behind his back, reminiscing about the evening’s al.
"You little rascal, you finally figured things out?"
Feiyan glanced at him and nodded.
"I’ll work hard to get Xixi to accept ."
Feili smiled and patted his shoulder. "I know you were only so averse to females because of your mother’s influence. But Xixi is a good female, one who genuinely cherishes her beast-husbands. I’ve already heard all about it from Qiaoqiao and the others."
Feiyan looked at him, confused.
"Sunxiao is Qiao Lie’s father. They went through life and death together back in Demon Beast City before they beca a family."
"And Jin Ling protected them through all their trials and tribulations. You see, Xixi isn’t a female who accepts just any male. So if you can earn her approval, she’ll protect you, too."
"But how am I supposed to earn her approval?"
