The survivors were once again all squished together in one barrack as Sir Gunnar went over what their plans were.

"This morning is likely going to be reasonably warm," the knight began. "With this, we will take advantage of the monster’s hatred of heat and gather supplies as we need. We will focus on the kitchen and look for survivors as we go on. Based on what the remaining squires and apprentices have said, we shouldn’t go into higher levels for the ti being. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes, sir" was the imdiate response.

However, Gunnar’s greyish eyes landed on Felix, the one who had threatened multiple tis in the night to storm the Duke’s Tower in search of Agnes. He was no longer being subtle about who she was to him.

Determined that she had survived and hid herself sowhere in the upper levels, he was determined to take her out of a place that could be teeming with monsters and putting her at risk of inhaling whatever the black smoke was that seed to follow the awful creatures around.

"Sir Sven and I have been working this morning to tear strips of sheets up so that we can put them over our noses and mouths," he continued. "I’m not sure what more we can do to block out the smoke, but it’s our best idea for now. My personal goal is to find a way into the basent and seal off the places where the goblins are said to be coming from. I’ll only be able to tell if this is possible if I go down there in the first place. I will have to go to the sheds for nails and wood in the first place."

Another "yes, sir" satisfied the knight.

"I also want everyone with the sa partner they had last night," he explained. "As far as I’m concerned, I’m treating Felix as a knight, which is why he guides you, William."

Since nothing more needed to be discussed, they were off on their own and left to figure out things as they went on.

It seed that Gunnar and his crew were headed towards the basent almost imdiately, while Irene and Leif headed towards the front, and Felix and William went right for the back entrance. Eitan and the apprentice, Bren, also went around the other way while Sven and the other apprentice, Elon, went to the stables to attend to the horses. No matter what, they thought it would lead them all to the kitchen eventually. They wouldn’t survive long if they couldn’t go out at night or early morning to hunt. They needed supplies badly.

As Leif and Irene crept in the long grass before getting closer and closer to the front entrance of the tower, the thrill of battle was coursing through their veins, and the desire to take it out on a goblin was at an all-ti high.

With cautious eyes scanning their surroundings, they saw nothing but trees and plains, so their focus went to the front door.

Irene first tried, and the door wouldn’t budge even a re inch. Ever competitive Leif tried as well and made the sa amount of progress as her.

"What is blocking this?" he wondered in disbelief.

"Let’s try the side door by the maid’s stairs," Irene suggested instead. "We have to get inside sohow."

Leif rely nodded, and they pressed on slowly. Their eyes darted to the windows, then to the surroundings. They were unwilling to be caught off guard by monsters.

anwhile, Felix and William successfully made it through the back entrance, but what t them was the surprisingly caved-in floor of the highest tower. There was plenty of walking space, but it made for a precarious move forward.

Since he wasn’t going to risk the squire despite having every intention to rush forward, Felix cautiously grabbed a stone from outside and tossed it onto the floor to ensure that it was stable enough for them to at least walk on.

Considering the stone did nothing, he realized that what was left of the floor was just over the storeroom, with all of the food underneath the kitchen.

When they were finally across, Felix’s pace beca quicker.

Since Agnes was often in the kitchen, the apprentice decided that was where he would head first.

From the mont they stepped inside, the one pristine dining hall was reduced to chaos with tables scattered, and evidence of goblins sleeping there took over. The stench was disgusting, and he grimaced.

All seed still until they made it about halfway through the dining hall.

Since his sword had already been drawn by that point, Felix reacted quickly when he saw a goblin stir. With the goblin stirring ca two more that seed to be interrupted from the quick naps they were taking.

Felix jumped towards the largest and as he brought his sword down in a diagonal slash, the monster surprisingly blocked, and his sword flew backwards, but he remained in control of it.

Since it seed the monster had a good grip, Felix changed his strategy by slicing off the creature’s wielding arm before he was able to stab it directly through its open, screeching mouth.

Satisfaction was fleeting as he turned to William, who was having a hell of a ti even taking one of the smaller ones.

Felix made quick work of one and watched proudly as the squire finally finished off the last goblin. He noticed a few mistakes in the kid’s striking, but he wasn’t going to pick him apart while they were in such a situation.

The two of them soon moved to the kitchen, where there were far more hiding spots than anywhere else in the place.

Imdiately, they were t with the sight of disarray, and it was clear that monsters had slashed through that area as well.

Felix walked with his sword in front of him in case sothing jumped out, but all that seed to jump out was his blade from his fingers as he witnessed his worst fear coming to fruition before him.

He fell to his knees, unable to take a step forward or think logically, even for a mont.
