I reincarnated as an elf .......and married the yandere villainess. Chapter 54:Market (bonus)
The wedding was slowly approaching and the festivities had sunk into the capital. Elves walked with a slight bounce as both species mingled with each other.
Unlike the first day of their arrival, when high elves and dark elves avoided each other and rarely walked on the sa road. Right now, they were walking, and the brave ones would talk to each other.
A small improvent, nonetheless.
In the middle of the blooming flowers and overarching bridges that made up the capital stood the market. The only market in the large capital, a place where the best and the worst of the Athius kingdom would be found.
"This feels different, new," Lily, who was walking beside Atheline said as her gaze swept through the market.
Atheline chuckled softly.
"I prefer your mountain to this," he said.
She shook her head and linked their hands together. They walked forward in silence while receiving all kinds of stares, curiosity, knowing, and downright hostility, but both of them couldn’t care less.
"How was the eting with the king and my parents?" He asked breaking the silence.
His parents hadn’t co back and every ti he tried to search for them they would magically disappear.
What gave him comfort was the fact that Helther was coming back ho.
"Your parents were quite amicable i had expected a fight or sothing but nothing, i got sothing better instead," she calmly said.
Atheline smiled.
"See, I told you they won’t cause too much trouble."
She didn’t answer him and Atheline wasn’t looking for one.
"Can I ask you a question?" He asked.
She nodded.
"I’ve been wondering what you see in , I know I’m good-looking but there are others everywhere so why?" He asked her.
She was quiet for a mont before she took his arm and pulled him towards a stall selling sugar-covered sun orange berries.
"Can you give one," she said to the vendor and gave a small gold coin.
Coins were the main currency in all the continents, and an agreent was made to avoid the confusion of the exchange rate of each currency.
There were only three types. Gold, silver, and the cheapest bronze each at a constant value of a hundred of each making up one of the higher coins.
"Here."
She picked an orange one from the bunch and placed it in Atheline’s hand who struggled to hold it.
"What is this for?" He asked in confusion and followed behind her as she walked slowly by the flowing river edge.
"You love sweets right?" She said.
Atheline nodded.
"This isn’t the first ti I’ve t you."
"What?" Atheline asked in surprise.
How was that possible, he rarely left the capital and he was sure he had never t anyone who looked like her.
’Maybe my mory is flaky.’
"When?" He asked again.
Lilith looked up at the sky her gaze distant a small smile on her face.
"Two years ago, at Belmont during the tis when the nights were longer.."
Atheline tried to recall, if he had left ho during that period, then it clicked..
"I rember leaving ho to go visit my brother around that ti."
’It was more like running away after the prince gave free ti and there was no one at ho. Got an earful after that, good mories those were."
Atheline glanced at her smiling face and shook his head trying to concentrate.
"It was midnight if I rember correctly and so stupid elf and beast kin were trying to rob ..."
The more she spoke the more the mory trickled down into him.
Atheline had decided to go for a walk after he got into a fight with his brother for leaving the capital without supervision.
He had been walking aimlessly when he heard voices while passing by an aisle.
"Just be a good girl and co with us."
Athreine stopped mid-step.
"She’ll fetch a good price at the slave auction," another said.
"Yeah, their kind sell like fire especially to human nobles," another one chipped in, a careless snicker escaping him," those human nobles are twisted bastards."
At that mont Atheline couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped into the aisle. The group was clearly traffickers who mainly stole lone elves and sold them to other continents.
Elves ranked the top in good looks on all the continents.
"What are you doing here, go back to...." another started but they stopped.
"We should catch that one too, he’ll go for a better price."
Atheline rolled his eyes.
’How greedy must you be’
He attacked them before they could even react. Wind burst out of him sending them across the isle like broken puppets.
They were weaker than Atheline had expected.
A few bangs on the walls later, they were knocked unconscious and ready to be taken into custody.
"You saved ..." the girl he said saved asked the confusion clear in her voice,".. why?"
Atheline looked at her in surprise.
’I had not expected that’
"I just did. I don’t see a reason as to why I should ignore soone in need of help."
"I need .... help," she repeated more confused.
Atheline nodded.
"These people are traffickers they are quite notorious these days, and it’s pretty hard to catch them."
She stared at him. That was when Atheline noticed that she had the bottom of her face covered and only her golden eyes stared at him.
He’s never seen those types of eyes and he couldn’t help but complint them.
"You have beautiful eyes," he said to her.
Atheline expected her not to answer since her stare was penetrative but she chuckled just a little.
"I got them from my father."
Atheline nodded, not knowing how to infer. He started to pick up the five unconscious n and got ready to leave when he felt a small tug on his robes.
"Is sothing the matter?" He asked her.
She shook her head then nodded.
"Can you guide through the city, I’m trying to find traces of my brother but I’m new."
Atheline went quiet but his thoughts were racing.
He had a brother so he understood how painful it would be to lose him. He couldn’t even imagine losing his older brother.
"Sure, I can help, at what ti?" He asked.
He was bored anyway and it doesn’t hurt to help find a missing person.
"When the sun sets," she said.
Atheline frowned. ’Isn’t that a little too late’
"I suppose, I’ll be there."
The next two days Atheline helped her new masked friend search for her brother and in the process they managed to uncover the trafficking group.
After that, she disappeared, not even leaving a na. He had asked her the first ti but she refused to answer.
He had gone ho after that and completely thrown that mory out. He had been seventeen almost eighteen and decided to be a hero.
He had done that a few tis so he really hadn’t taken helping her seriously but catching the traffickers had gotten him in his parents and brothers good graces.
Atheline stared at Lily in shock.
"That was you?"
She smiled and nodded.
"At that ti, I was hunting my brother’s remnants since they breed like insects the mont you close your eyes. "
Atheline nodded. Now that he thought about it she beheaded her two brothers about fifty years ago and took the throne.
A famous tale since she hung their bodies at the gates. That was when her reputation started.
’I now know why it was so easy to uncover those vermin even though brother had been having trouble’
Atheline glanced up at the full moon hanging in the sky. Shadows had started to appear during the day from the moon slowly overlapping the sun.
It was almost ti for the eclipse to officially start.
Wedding bells were officially ringing in his ears.
