Another day had passed.
In Liu Ruyan’s villa, she slowly opened her eyes to find Shen Wuxiao still asleep beside her. His handso face was inches away, and her hand was resting on his firm, well-defined abs. Even now, she couldn’t resist him.
Shen Wuxiao was like a drug—irresistible and dangerous. He had completely broken her. Last night, she begged him for rcy until she finally surrendered. But what made her feel strangely disappointed was that he didn’t stay afterward. That fleeting sense of loss ca from the illness gnawing at her heart.
She was even afraid… afraid of what would happen if she got pregnant with Shen Wuxiao’s child. But she knew it was unlikely.
Liu Ruyan moved quietly, careful not to wake him. She sat up slowly, her pale skin glowing softly in the morning light as she leaned against the headboard and ran her fingers through her ssy hair. A deep feeling of helplessness settled over her.
She didn’t know what else she could do. Today, she had to visit the psychological counseling center again and ask Dr. Bilian to intensify her treatnt.
Just as that thought crossed her mind, Shen Wuxiao opened his eyes.
Liu Ruyan panicked slightly, instinctively trying to help him dress. But he didn’t even glance at her. He got up, grabbed his clothes, threw a shirt over his shoulders, and walked into the bathroom—his deanor was cold, indifferent, and distant. It was as if nothing had ever happened between them.
He washed up, got dressed, and left the room without saying a single word.
Just when her heart was aching from the silence, the door creaked open again.
Shen Wuxiao looked in.
Liu Ruyan opened her mouth, about to ask if he wanted breakfast, but he cut her off first.
“Be more careful when you sleep next ti. There are nail marks on my abs… I’ll let it slide this ti.”
Bang!
The door shut again.
Liu Ruyan pouted, her heart aggrieved. Her lips quivered as she held back tears.
Downstairs, Shen Wuxiao buttoned his clothes. He had business to take care of today—he was going to visit the daughter of the God of War.
That adorable little bald child needed surgery. How could he possibly ignore her?
Moreover, based on what Ye Qingfeng had revealed, Shen Wuxiao already had a good idea of who Ye Qingfeng’s backer was—and conveniently, they weren’t from the Shen family.
With Ye Qingfeng cornered, he would surely seek help.
This gave Shen Wuxiao the perfect excuse to eliminate so outside threats under the guise of “helping.” It wasn’t overboard, right?
After getting dressed, he stopped briefly at the altar.
He glanced down at the scratch marks on his stomach and muttered, “Damn it… why keep those claws? What were you trying to do?”
Then, his gaze landed on the portrait of Liu Qingqing.
In the black-and-white photo, she was smiling.
“You look so ugly when you smile,” he said.
He buttoned his shirt, turned around, and left the villa.
After getting into the car, he drove off.
…
anwhile, at the hospital, Huang Luoyan had been rushing around since early morning.
Ye Qingfeng had said the expert would arrive today—a real oncologist.
Tuantuan’s condition couldn’t be delayed any longer. Tomorrow was the final deadline, and they couldn’t afford to run out of ti. The earlier the surgery, the better.
Looking at Tuantuan, still fast asleep, Huang Luoyan couldn’t help but feel frustrated. Ye Qingfeng had returned with such grand promises, only to vanish the next day.
This was his daughter’s surgery day—how could he disappear like this?
When Tuantuan had been found and brought back to the hospital, he had cried so desperately, swearing that he loved her more than anything and would betray the world for her.
Back then, she had been deeply moved. Seeing father and daughter reunited made everything feel worth it. She thought she had finally repaid her best friend’s dying wish.
He even said he missed her and wanted to see her.
He had promised to et her last night… but then disappeared.
When she called, he would either delay answering or hang up entirely.
Looking back, nothing Ye Qingfeng said seed trustworthy anymore.
All those sweet words turned out to be nothing but air.
In reality, Ye Qingfeng was watching from afar.
He desperately wanted to see his daughter, but he couldn’t.
During a video call with Shen Wuxiao the previous night, one offhand comnt had made him paranoid. There were too many people at the hospital—how could he be sure who was working for Shen Wuxiao?
If he appeared now and Shen Wuxiao made a move, Tuantuan would definitely be caught in the crossfire.
His reinforcents hadn’t arrived yet.
All he could do was endure.
As long as his daughter’s surgery went smoothly today, he’d ask Huang Luoyan to take Tuantuan away from Zhonghai.
Once things with Shen Wuxiao were resolved, he’d reunite with them and make it right.
Ye Qingfeng let out a deep sigh.
He took out his phone and called Qing Long.
“Qing Long, have you picked up the oncologist yet?”
In tis like this, Ye Qingfeng had no one else to trust. He had to rely on Qing Long.
This was about his daughter’s life—he couldn’t take chances.
“Boss, the plane hasn’t landed yet. It’s scheduled to arrive around 9:30,” Qing Long replied.
“Okay. Make sure everything goes smoothly.”
After hanging up, Ye Qingfeng sent a ssage to Huang Luoyan:
Ms. Huang, the oncologist is on his way and should arrive around ten. Thank you for taking care of Tuantuan. I’m truly sorry for breaking my promise yesterday. One day, I’ll make it up to you.
From a distance, Ye Qingfeng watched the hospital.
He saw that Huang Luoyan had read the ssage—but she rely glanced at it and tossed the phone aside.
Clearly, she was out of patience.
Ye Qingfeng could only sigh again.
Ti ticked by.
Soon, it was ten in the morning.
Outside the hospital, Shen Wuxiao and Jiang Huaiyue arrived.
They stepped out of the car in the parking lot. Shen Wuxiao was holding a bouquet of fresh flowers, while Jiang Huaiyue carried a stuffed teddy bear.
They were here to “visit” Tuantuan on behalf of her father, Ye Qingfeng.
The child was about to have surgery—and as her father’s “close friends,” it was only natural they stopped by to offer their blessings.
As they walked toward the hospital, Jiang Huaiyue clung to Shen Wuxiao’s arm and glanced at the teddy bear he held.
“Wuxiao,” she asked softly, “you’re not planning to harm that child, are you?”
Shen Wuxiao chuckled. “Do you really think I’d stoop that low? I’m just here to visit. At most, I’m using the kid as bait to draw out any rats hiding in the dark.”
“I may not be a good man, and yes, my hands are stained with blood—but I would never hurt a child. That’s my bottom line.”
Jiang Huaiyue smiled, completely believing in him.
Suddenly, she stepped in front of him, blocking his path.
“What is it?” Shen Wuxiao asked.
She didn’t reply.
Instead, her eyes sparkled with affection. She stood on tiptoe and planted a firm kiss on his lips.
“This is the man I love,” she said. “We’ll slaughter every last enemy together until the rivers run red. But for those innocent lives… let’s show so restraint. One day, I’ll bear your child. Let’s earn so karma for their sake.”
“You’re right,” Shen Wuxiao smiled, gently ruffling her hair. “Let’s go see the kid.”
“Mm!” Jiang Huaiyue hugged his arm even tighter, pressing herself against him as they made their way toward the hospital entrance.
Just then, a business car approached from a distance.
Behind the wheel was Qing Long.
He had just picked up the oncologist and was rushing to the hospital.
As he slowed down to park, he spotted Shen Wuxiao and Jiang Huaiyue.
His eyes widened.
There was no mistaking them.
One held a bouquet, the other a stuffed toy. It was obvious—they were going to visit Tuantuan.
Qing Long instantly realized what was happening.
They were targeting the child!
A dark fury rose within him.
Shen Wuxiao had gone too far.
He wanted to destroy everything.
