Shen Wuxiao drove at an alarming speed, as if he were in a complete panic. The car swerved and drifted erratically as they exited the villa area, clearly unbalanced.

Lin Fan hadn’t been fully alert during the ride. As a result, he hit his head quite hard. Fortunately, his body was tough and used to taking beatings. It wasn’t serious—just a little embarrassing.

After a wild ride, the car finally screeched to a stop in front of a quiet park.

Lin Fan let out a breath of relief. Then, turning to the driver, he said gratefully, “Brother, thank you so much for this.”

But the mont he finished speaking, he caught a clear look at the driver’s face—and froze in shock.

Because of the dim lighting and his rush to escape, he hadn’t noticed earlier. He had assud the driver was just a random stranger. But now, he recognized the familiar face.

“Brother Sikong? It’s you?” Lin Fan exclaid in disbelief.

Shen Wuxiao continued his act, breathing heavily and staring blankly ahead, like soone who had just survived a nightmare.

Lin Fan reached out and patted him on the shoulder. “Brother Sikong!”

Shen Wuxiao jolted, as if startled from a daze. “Ah… Are you alright?”

Lin Fan had been through countless battles. Dangerous monts made him tense, sure—but never afraid. However, in his mind, Brother Sikong was just a spoiled rich kid. There was no way soone like him had ever seen anything like this.

It was perfectly normal for him to be scared.

“I’m fine. But why were you there?” Lin Fan asked, still puzzled.

Shen Wuxiao’s performance continued. He trembled slightly, his voice unsteady. “I… I…”

Lin Fan let out a helpless sigh. “Don’t panic. Just speak slowly.”

He handed him a tissue, noticing the sweat dripping from Shen Wuxiao’s face. Given the level of gunfire and explosions, it made sense—soone like him would be terrified.

Shen Wuxiao took the tissue, hands still shaking. In his nervousness, he pulled out a dozen sheets without realizing it. Eventually, he folded a couple and wiped the mineral water off his forehead and neck. The paper was instantly soaked.

“Brother Sikong, seriously, why were you there?” Lin Fan asked again.

Shen Wuxiao looked at him, hesitated, then spoke. “I… I just wanted to confirm sothing.”

“Confirm what?” Lin Fan asked.

“Well… I was planning to call the hotel manager to ask him to take better care of you. You know, since you don’t have any relatives or close friends here, and won can be unpredictable—I was afraid you might spiral out of control.”

He paused, swallowing hard as if trying to calm himself.

“The manager said he saw you leaving the hotel late at night, with a serious, dangerous look in your eyes. I got worried. Then I rembered the questions you asked this morning, and I thought… maybe you really went out to take revenge.”

“The more I thought about it, the more likely it seed. So I quickly got dressed and ca out to check. Honestly, I was also scared of being dragged into this ss. After all, I was the one who told you that Shen Wuxiao might be in Jinnan Bay…”

“I didn’t expect… I really didn’t expect…”

At that point, Shen Wuxiao trailed off.

Lin Fan was touched.

This guy might be the kind of rich second-generation who spent his days partying, drinking, gambling, and chasing won—but he still had a conscience.

Sure, he was afraid of getting implicated. If caught, he’d probably be interrogated, and if he cracked, it could ruin his whole family. But more than that, he was genuinely worried that Lin Fan might make a mistake he’d regret.

To many people, Shen Wuxiao was an untouchable figure. Going after him could be seen as suicide. His fear was understandable.

“Sigh… I owe you another favor,” Lin Fan said sincerely.

Shen Wuxiao shook his head, a bit flustered. “No… no, you don’t owe anything. I… I didn’t even help you! I didn’t dare get close. I’ve never seen anything like that before—I’m a coward!”

Seeing how emotional he was, Lin Fan gave his shoulder a reassuring pat.

“How can you be a coward? You didn’t run away. Anyone else would’ve been scared out of their mind.”

Shen Wuxiao turned to him, surprised. “Really?”

Lin Fan nodded. “Really.”

Shen Wuxiao knew the character he had to portray. He needed to act humble when it was right to do so, and proud when the mont called for it.

He let out a sheepish laugh. “I may not be capable of much, but I’m not disloyal. I couldn’t bring myself to get closer, but I also couldn’t leave. Luckily, you ran out just in ti and jumped into the car.”

Lin Fan nodded again in understanding.

He knew this kind of inner struggle. Fear made people want to flee, but deep down, his conscience held him back. If he ran, he’d feel guilty for the rest of his life. That dilemma had trapped him there, pacing in circles, frozen by indecision.

But that kind of hesitation ca from kindness.

As the forr Wolf King, Lin Fan understood human nature deeply.

After this incident, he was sure of one thing—this Brother Sikong was soone worth befriending.

At least, he wasn’t the kind of person who’d stab you in the back.

His ntor once told him: life is full of ups and downs, but you’ll also et noble people along the way. Lin Fan had just arrived in the city and already experienced so much. And during this lonely and desperate ti, he had indeed t soone who stood by him.

Even after years of battles, Lin Fan never expected that one day, he’d be completely misled—praising his greatest enemy without even knowing it.

After a brief pause, Shen Wuxiao asked, “Brother Lin Fan, are you hurt?”

“I saw the gunfire, the explosions… Are you okay?”

Lin Fan didn’t try to hide it. “I got shot in the leg. A sniper rifle.”

“What?!” Shen Wuxiao acted shocked. “Who was the handso guy that did it?”

“?”

Lin Fan was taken aback. Then he realized—it was sarcasm. A mocking joke, wrapped in flattery. It was sharp, but not crude.

Nowadays, people rarely use actual swear words. Instead, they replace them with gentler alternatives. For example, instead of calling soone an idiot, you might jokingly call them a “little cutie.”

Lin Fan shook his head. “I don’t know who it was. The shot ca from behind. I didn’t even notice it at the ti.”

Shen Wuxiao nodded. “Forget it. Let’s get you to the hospital first. Just hang in there!”

“No need. I can handle it myself,” Lin Fan replied, not wanting to trouble anyone further.

“What do you an ‘no need’? You’ve been shot. This isn’t sothing to take lightly. And don’t worry—my family owns shares in that hospital. Everything will be kept quiet.”

Without giving Lin Fan a chance to argue, Shen Wuxiao started the car and sped toward the hospital.

Lin Fan felt a little moved. If it weren’t for Brother Sikong, things could’ve gotten very complicated.

They rushed all the way to the hospital and finally arrived.

Lin Fan wasn’t trying to act tough. It was just a bullet wound, nothing life-threatening. But the bullet still needed to be removed and the wound bandaged.

If he hadn’t been a warrior—and a master-level one at that—his true energy wouldn’t have protected him. A sniper shot from a kiloter away would’ve torn a bloody hole through his leg.

Martial artists like him might train in techniques that seem superhuman, but they weren’t gods. They relied on their true energy, martial skills, and sotis supernatural abilities in combat. But that didn’t make them invincible.

If their cultivation level wasn’t high enough, they could still be seriously injured by modern firearms.

It’s like comparing a martial arts master with an entire army. No matter how unbeatable you are in a one-on-one fight, if you’re facing an entire army, you’ll still be overwheld.

If this weren’t true, then the legendary Guo Jing wouldn’t have died defending Xiangyang City. He knew that a single person’s strength would eventually be depleted, while an army’s cavalry seed endless.

Only those who reached the seventh level of the Grandmaster Realm possessed true external internal energy—making them impervious to swords, spears, fire, and water.

And even then, they were rely at the beginning stages of true martial mastery.

Only by combining great supernatural powers, martial arts, and unique abilities could soone be considered truly accomplished.

Lin Fan was well aware—he still had a long road ahead of him.
