On the veranda of Ellyn’s rented house

Ellyn sighed, stretching her arms as she watched Hazuki sulk.

"Hmmm, Uncle... looks like you can’t learn any magic for now."

Hazuki froze.

"Ehhh!?!?"

Ellyn crossed her arms, tilting her head.

"We already tried, right? I even taught you a simple chant for a small fire spell, like this—"

She held out her palm, a soft glow forming as she chanted.

"O spirit of the eternal warmth, grant your ember. Ignite."

A tiny fla flickered into existence, dancing on her fingertips.

Hazuki’s eyes sparkled.

"OHHH!! THAT’S COOL!!!"

But—when he tried? Nothing.

"And you already tried several tis, but nothing happened."

Ellyn sighed, extinguishing the fla.

"I think... you just don’t have the talent for magic like this."

Hazuki felt his soul leave his body.

"Seriously?!"

Ellyn shrugged.

"I don’t know for sure. But don’t give up yet. There are different types of magic, after all."

Hazuki perked up.

"Oh? Like what?"

Ellyn held up two fingers.

"There are Active Magic and Passive Magic."

"Active Magic is the one that requires chants or magic circles. It’s used for offense, defense, or utility—like elental attacks, shields, teleportation, or healing spells."

Hazuki nodded.

"Like fireballs and lightning strikes?"

"Exactly."

Then—she raised one finger.

"Passive Magic, on the other hand, is different. Instead of needing chants, it works like an innate ability or a buff. So increase strength or speed, others enhance perception or resistance."

"For example, so beastkin have night vision as a passive magic. Others have enhanced agility. Dwarves sotis have an earth affinity that makes them naturally resistant to heat."

Hazuki rubbed his chin.

"So, basically... Active Magic is flashy, but Passive Magic is more like a built-in skill?"

Ellyn grinned.

"That’s right!"

Hazuki exhaled, slumping against the wooden railing.

"Haaaa... so I’m magicless, huh?"

Ellyn poked his cheek.

"Not really. Maybe you just haven’t unlocked your type yet."

Hazuki groaned.

Ellyn noticed Hazuki sulking, so she clapped her hands to snap him out of it.

"Don’t be discouraged at all, Uncle! Sotis, passive magic is more powerful than active magic."

Hazuki raised an eyebrow.

"Really? How?"

Ellyn grinned.

"You can use a sword, right?"

"Yes..."

Ellyn pointed at his weapon.

"Then think about this—passive magic is perfect for close-combat fighters. Many warriors enhance their bodies using Strength Boost, Speed Burst, or Endurance Reinforcent without needing long chants. It’s instant."

Hazuki slowly nodded.

"Oh... like having a buff?"

"Exactly!"

She held up two fingers.

"And it’s not just lee weapons! Mid-range weapons like bows and crossbows also benefit from passive magic. Archers use Hawk’s Sight to improve vision, Steady Hand to eliminate tremors, and Wind Flow to guide their arrows with precision."

Hazuki whistled.

"Hot Damn, that sounds useful."

Ellyn smirked, tapping his sword.

"And looking at your short sword right now, I know your weapon is fused with sothing, right?"

Hazuki nodded.

"Yeah... Sli Crystal. That’s why the tal has a light green color."

Ellyn smiled knowingly.

"Then you should learn how to flow your mana into your weapon."

"Huh? What for?"

"If you do it right, it can increase the weapon’s durability, sharpness, and even add special properties depending on what it’s fused with."

Hazuki perked up.

"Wait—so if I master this, my sword could get stronger without breaking?"

"Yes! And depending on your mana flow, you might even be able to make it cut through tougher materials—maybe even tal or enchanted armor!"

Hazuki grinned.

"Oho~ Now we’re talking!"

Ellyn smiled softly.

"Good... he’s motivated again."

Hazuki leaned forward, eyes gleaming with interest.

"So, this passive thing... does it work on any weapon?"

Ellyn nodded.

"Yes, it does."

Hazuki grinned.

"Oho! Now this I want to learn!"

But—Ellyn rubbed the back of her head, looking a little sheepish.

"Umm... well... I don’t have any passive skills. All of mine are active skills."

Hazuki froze.

"...Really?"

Ellyn smiled apologetically.

"Yeah..."

Hazuki felt his soul leave his body.

"Ugh..."

He slumped forward, banging his forehead on the wooden veranda.

Then—Ellyn suddenly perked up.

"Uncle?"

Hazuki groaned, still face-down.

"What now...?"

Ellyn giggled.

"Where’s that book?"

Hazuki blinked, lifting his head.

"Huh?"

"The book you got from the ’Guild Librarian.’"

Hazuki reached into his bag and pulled it out.

"Oh, this one?"

Ellyn took it, flipping through the pages.

"Let check if there’s anything in here that you can learn."

Hazuki grinned.

"Hehehe~ Maybe there’s a hidden legendary skill in there!"

Ellyn smiled softly as she read.

Ellyn flipped through the pages, her eyes scanning the ancient text.

She already knew Hazuki’s mana pool was massive.

There had to be sothing in this book that he could learn.

Hazuki leaned in beside her, peering over her shoulder.

"Damn... I can’t even read this."

He sighed, slumping slightly.

Ellyn giggled softly.

Then—without making it obvious—she activated her Absolute Eye, allowing her to interpret the text.

"Hmmm... This one is an active skill..."

She flipped another page.

"Umm... this one is for Paladins."

Hazuki grunted.

"Pass. No holy knight stuff for ."

Ellyn continued scanning.

Then—her ears twitched.

"Errr... I think you can learn this one."

Hazuki’s eyes lit up.

"Where?! Which one?!"

Without thinking—he leaned in closer.

And closer.

Until—his cheek pressed against Ellyn’s cheek.

"T-Too close!"

Hazuki blinked, realizing their faces were practically glued together.

"Huh? Oh."

Hazuki pulled back slightly.

"Oi, calm down. It’s not like I kissed you or sothing."

Ellyn pouted, puffing up her cheeks.

"STILL! Personal space, Uncle!"

Hazuki just smirked.

"Fine, fine. Now, tell —what’s the skill?"

Ellyn glared at him for a mont before huffing and looking back at the book.

Ellyn continued reading, her eyes scanning the text.

"This is... Elental Control."

Hazuki leaned closer.

"What’s that?"

Ellyn tapped the page.

"It’s a passive skill that lets you control elents like Air, Water, Fire, and Earth—but only through weapons and armor."

Hazuki tilted his head.

"aning?"

Ellyn explained.

"So monsters have resistances against certain elents and weaknesses against others. If you have this skill, you can charge your weapon with an elent."

"For example—" She picked up Hazuki’s sword and made a motion as if she were imbuing it with power.

"If you’re fighting a fire-based monster, you can turn your sword into a water-elent weapon, dealing more damage."

Hazuki’s eyes widened.

"OHHHH!! THAT’S COOL!!"

Then—Ellyn hesitated.

"But... there’s a problem."

Hazuki froze.

"What now?!"

Ellyn closed the book, sighing.

"You can’t read this book."

Hazuki felt his soul leave his body.

"Haaaaa... Just when I thought I finally had a good skill to learn..."

Ellyn watched him sulk, but inside, she was deep in thought.

She could learn this skill.

And with her special ability—the one that made nobles and royals hunt her down—she could pass the skill to Hazuki.

But—there was one major problem.

To transfer a skill... she needed to kiss him.

Ellyn gripped the book tightly, her face heating up.

She stole a glance at Hazuki, who was still mumbling complaints to himself.

"H-How am I supposed to do that without making things weird...?!"
