Now reading: Chapter 300: Beneath Your Feet, That Is Buddha from Immortal Travel of Longevity, a Slice of life novel by 四更不睡.

The heavy snow of winter arrived a bit earlier than in past years.

The Desolate Plain was all covered by this big snow.

Fewer people stood on the city tower; Mu Cang was still there, watching that youth.

But that day, he could not find that figure.

In the heavy snow that night, the youth had been wrapped by the falling snow; even the pile of white bones on the ground was buried by the snow.

Looking out, the Desolate Plain and the far-off Green Mountain had turned all white.

So Martial Artists climbed the city tower and looked over the Desolate Plain.

“Where is that Madman?”

“See that snow mound; the Madman is pressed under it.”

“These days, I haven’t seen him move anymore; he can’t be dead, can he?”

“Probably not; I heard the Immortals in the city say that Madman is special, stronger than them; he likely won’t freeze to death.”

“Still not dying?”

“By the way, it’s almost been a year; I wonder when we’ll see the monsters.”

“You want to see monsters?”

“Yeah…”

The young Swordsman said, “Isn’t traveling in Jianghu all about gaining experience?”

The person talking to him laughed and said, “You’re just too young. But I have to warn you, when you really see them, don’t wet your pants.”

“Of course not; since I ca here, why would I be scared?”

“It’s not like that. Over this past year, many have co, and many have left. Only the earliest Seniors have stayed here longest. For you young ones, it might seem like child’s play, but for us, it decides us, it decides life or death for millions.”

Hearing this, the young Swordsman felt puzzled; he still didn’t understand what was so scary. With tens of thousands in the city, how could they fear the tiny Demon Race?

He was simply too young in the end.

The distant Green Mountain was also covered by the heavy snow.

Qing Tianyou saw the vast whiteness and mumbled, “Brother Chen, it’s snowing again.”

Chen Changsheng heated a pot of tea; his gaze went toward the small mound on the Desolate Plain.

His hand holding the teapot paused; he softly spoke one word.

“Hmm.”

Qing Tianyou turned to look at him and asked, “Is he still alive?”

Chen Changsheng shook his head and said, “He is alive still, but with this snow falling, he might not last long.”

Qing Tianyou felt lost for a mont.

But he spoke these words, “Go soon; go earlier to be freed.”

Qing Tianyou never imagined he would wish for soone to die this way.

Chen Changsheng sighed and said, “Now the Divine Domain rises more; Heaven and Earth can’t wait anymore. This way, he can be freed.”

Hearing this, Qing Tianyou paused and asked, “This snow, it’s not an accident?”

Chen Changsheng said, “The Demon Realm is so vast; why did the snow fall only here?”

Qing Tianyou clenched his fist and said, “How could they act so low?”

“Low it is…”

Chen Changsheng murmured, “But it will free him in the end.”

Qing Tianyou relaxed his tight fist.

He lowered his head, his feelings hard to put into words.

Chen Changsheng stood up; after staying on this mountain all this ti, it was the first ti he went down.

Qing Tianyou watched this gentleman in the blue robe.

Suddenly he felt Brother Chen could be cold sotis; yet he thought, what could Brother Chen do?

Maybe he was helpless too.

Chen Changsheng walked into the vast whiteness.

Snow like willow catkins fell on Chen Changsheng’s shoulders; wherever he went, he left footprints.

The howling wind swept past Chen Changsheng’s ears.

He walked all the way forward and reached that small mound.

People on the city tower lifted their eyes.

“Who is that?”

“Why is there soone outside the city?”

“Is it a human?”

Mu Cang’s eyes fixed on the blue robe.

He paused, rembering that figure.

“Mr. Chen…”

Mu Cang reached out and gripped his spear; the Martial Artists and Cultivators on the city tower whispered among themselves.

He seed to guess sothing.

“Lao Bazi!”

Mu Cang shouted.

The dozing Lao Bazi woke up; he looked at Mu Cang and asked, “What?”

Mu Cang turned around; with a serious face, he said, “Gather the troops! Prepare for battle!”

Lao Bazi shivered all over; he gazed out toward the Desolate Plain.

After a short while, he understood.

“I am going now!”

He gripped his knife and stepped down from the city tower.

Chen Changsheng left a set of footprints on the Desolate Plain.

He reached out and brushed the snow off the youth.

The youth’s figure showed.

His breath was weak; his face was pale and weak.

In fact, he should have gone long ago.

Likely because he was mad; he had forgotten many things, so he stayed on the Desolate Plain for nearly a year.

Exchanging human blood for that of a Great Demon gave Great Demon powers but slowly wasted his lifespan; this big snow was like the last straw, crushing his final breath.

The youth was half-awake; he opened his eyes a bit and saw a blue robe in his daze.

Chen Changsheng sat in the snow and asked softly, “Do you rember ?”

The youth’s breath was weak; he shook his head.

He seed to not know this gentleman anymore.

But a little later, he nodded.

Because the person before him felt familiar.

He just could not recall.

Chen Changsheng reached out and brushed snow from his shoulders, saying, “You once asked , ‘If one dies, can it save millions?'”

“Now you have truly done it.”

“Buddha said, ‘If I don’t go to hell, who will?’ But I was more in favor of you becoming a Killing Talent; if so, these pains might not have co to you. You were stubborn though.”

“So in kindness, I am common; far behind you.”

Confusion filled the youth’s eyes; he did not seem to understand the words.

The youth hesitated a long while and asked, “What is Buddha?”

Chen Changsheng stayed quiet a bit; he thought and opened his mouth.

“Beneath your feet…”

“…that is Buddha.”

The youth’s breath grew even weaker; he looked down but saw nothing under his feet.

What is Buddha?

He felt this person was strange.

Yet he did not resist at all.

The scene before the youth suddenly darkened.

He asked, “Am I… also going to die…”

Chen Changsheng looked at him and said, “Yes.”

A look of calm ca over the youth’s face; he said, “If I die, can I see… see past friends?”

Chen Changsheng paused a little and nodded, “Of course.”

“Then… that’s fine…”

A smile touched the youth’s lips.

Chen Changsheng reached out and patted his head, saying, “Be a plain Mortal in your next life; if you can’t, then be a Killing Talent; don’t be a monk.”

“Kill… Killing Talent…”

The view before the youth turned completely dark.

Right before his mind faded, he voiced the doubt in his heart.

“What is… a Killing Talent?”

The youth fell onto that snowy ground.

He still understood nothing.
