Yuze glanced at the statue and shook his head, "No, why?"
Josh shook his head, "I can’t quite put my finger on it, just that it feels weird. There’s definitely sothing wrong with this statue."
Upon hearing this, Yuze said, "I’ll go up and take a look."
He nimbly climbed onto the offering table and leaned closer to the statue.
The pitch-black night was illuminated by the moonlight spilling through the window, casting a cold hue over the statue.
Suddenly, there was a faint noise outside the door.
Soone was coming towards the center of the ancestral hall.
There was the sound of a lock being opened on the central door.
Josh and Yuze exchanged a glance and he decisively reached out, pulling him onto the table.
The two quickly slipped behind the statue, using the stone-carved rmaid tail to shield their bodies.
The door was gently pushed open, and two shadowy figures sneaked in.
Behind the statue was a transparent window, and the two dared not stick their heads out, fearing that their shadows under the moonlight would cast onto the ground and attract the attention of the two below.
There was a rustling sound, followed by a woman’s voice, sounding young, "Will this really work?"
The man’s voice was lowered, "We won’t know until we try, Xiaxia, didn’t you say you would marry ? I’ve been waiting for three years."
Xiaxia’s voice carried a hint of emotion, "Yuntian, we grew up together. My feelings for you, Lord Sea God knows clearly!"
Hearing this na, Yuze raised his eyebrows slightly.
Yuntian firmly grasped the woman’s hand, "Then let’s try. I heard that only the woman chosen by Lord Sea God can beco the Holy Daughter, and only those who place their hand on the statue and awaken it are chosen by Lord Sea God. If you try and you’re not the one, there’s no need to waste ti being an alternative Sacrificial Girl!"
Xiaxia nodded, looking sowhat fearful at the tall and majestic statue, "Lord Sea God, please forgive , my heart is with Yuntian, I am not pure and unworthy to serve you."
She nervously swallowed and reached out to touch the statue.
Josh couldn’t hear any movent for a long ti and couldn’t help but lean forward. Her hand accidentally brushed the tail of the statue, the icy, bone-chilling feel startled her, and she quickly withdrew her hand.
Yuze glanced at her inquiringly, and Josh shook her head.
There was conversation again from below, "Great! It’s not ! It felt just like stone!"
"Shh!" Yuntian quickly covered her mouth, "Keep your voice down, be careful not to be discovered."
Xiaxia hurriedly nodded, looking at Yuntian, her gaze suddenly changed.
Yuntian’s face turned red, and he quickly withdrew his hand, "Why are you looking at like that?"
Xiaxia took his hand, "Xiao Yun, how long has it been since we’ve t in private?"
Yuntian’s ears turned red, and a hint of shyness flashed in his eyes, "You’re the one who insisted on becoming the Sacrificial Girl."
Upon hearing this, Xiaxia leaned in closer, "Is that so? Who got angry and said they’d rather marry a piece of wood than ."
Yuntian glared at her accusingly, "Who told you to lie about not preparing a dowry for ? My brothers laughed to death when they heard."
Xiaxia chuckled, "No dowry, and you won’t marry ?"
Yuntian’s face reddened, and he lowered his head, "Of course not... But my parents had a hard ti raising ... and I’ve been the one doing most of the work at ho. I haven’t saved much these years, but at least with a dowry, I could honor them a bit and let them save up for retirent, right?"
Upon hearing this, Xiaxia’s brow furrowed slightly, then was quickly replaced with a smile, "Let’s not talk about this, we haven’t been intimate in so long, look..."
Yuntian half-heartedly resisted, "Are you crazy? Lord Sea God is watching..."
Ambiguous sounds soon emanated from below.
Josh curiously wanted to peek out but was pushed back by Yuze.
She looked over questioningly.
Yuze, with a straight face, mouthed silently, "Underage viewing is not allowed."
Josh: "..." I’ve lived long enough to be your ancestor!
As the two were close, Yuze cleared his throat and tactfully distanced himself from her.
Josh nonchalantly leaned against the rmaid tail, sending him a ssage in the group chat: [What do we do now?]
Yuze: [Wait for them to leave.]
Things were heating up below when suddenly there was more noise from outside.
The pair were startled and hurriedly dressed.
Footsteps approached continuously.
Xiaxia didn’t have ti to hide anyone and could only grit her teeth, pulling Yuntian over the offering table and hiding behind the statue.
The four exchanged glances in the moonlight.
Yuntian was so scared he almost scread, but Xiaxia covered his mouth.
Josh and Yuze calmly watched the pair.
Since they weren’t the ones being watched, they felt no embarrassnt.
Josh smiled slightly, and to show friendliness, she sincerely said, "What a coincidence, you two are also here for a secret rendezvous."
Aligning themselves with the other party helped effectively reduce their vigilance.
This was Josh’s way of expressing friendliness.
However, secret rendezvous wasn’t exactly a nice term.
Xiaxia’s face instantly turned a myriad of colors.
Yuntian also couldn’t help but blush deeply.
Yuze stifled a laugh, pushing the earnest Josh behind him, "Sorry, the kid’s still young, doesn’t know better."
Only then did Xiaxia’s expression calm a bit.
The door was pushed open, and a blurred figure entered, vaguely discerned as a woman.
The space for the four was slightly cramped, and Josh leaned against the fish tail, cautiously extending Spider Silk to check the situation.
The one who entered was Yue Xi.
Through the Spider Silk, Josh saw the expression on her face.
Nightti Yue Xi was a different person from the dayti, her expression tinged with pain and struggle, muttering sothing under her breath.
Josh extended the Spider Silk further, closer to Yue Xi, and finally heard her voice.
"Lord Sea God above, please forgive , I have no other choice."
"If it were possible, who would want to do such things? I was also forced; my sins can no longer be washed away..."
Josh furrowed her brow slightly, what did this an?
What had Yue Xi done to need to co in the middle of the night to confess?
Xiaxia saw Yue Xi and turned pale with fright, feeling flustered.
Could it be that they had been discovered coming in?
They had forgotten to lock the door just now, would Yue Xi find sothing?
Lost in anxious thoughts, she suddenly slipped, instinctively grabbing onto Yuntian beside her.
The two rolled out from behind the statue.
Josh was also startled and quickly retreated.
"Who’s there?" Yue Xi’s expression instantly turned icy, her gaze sharp as blades.
Xiaxia and Yuntian’s faces went deathly pale, too scared to even crawl back up, kneeling at Yue Xi’s feet.
Josh and Yuze exchanged a look, both instinctively holding their breath.
She carefully noted the movent below, cautiously pulling her body back a little, not realizing that her move had nearly pressed her snugly against Yuze.
