"Answer it."

Asagiri's expression was carefree as ever, but Yuuki Asuna still pressed her lips together, visibly tense. Normally, she was decisive and unshakable. Yet the mont her mother's na appeared on the screen, she looked like a little girl about to be scolded, flustered and unsure where to put her hands.

"What if she asks what I'm doing…"

Hearing Asuna's cautious whisper, Asagiri gently took her hand and spoke in a steady, serious tone.

"Tell her the truth. Say you're with your boyfriend. Anything related to the ga has to stay hidden, but I know you hate lying. For this, just be honest."

"Okay… alright."

The warmth in his palm, the certainty in his voice, it cald her more than she expected. Asuna took a breath, pressed the answer button, and lifted the phone to her ear.

"Hello, Mom."

It was on speaker mode, but Asagiri still couldn't hear what her mother said. He only watched Asuna, trying hard to keep her composure while replying.

"Uh… I'm… on a date with my boyfriend right now."

"Sorry for not telling you sooner. We've been together for a while."

"Mm, he's a student at Shuchiin Academy too. Sa year as ."

"Eh? Is he next to right now? Yes, he is… Oh, I see…"

Asuna moved the phone away slightly and looked at Asagiri. Her pretty face was full of nervousness as she whispered carefully.

"Um… my mom wants to talk to you. Is that okay?"

If it were an ordinary high school boy, this would have been the mont his soul left his body. But Asagiri did not do timid. He never had. He reached out with a grin.

"No need to ask. Phone. Hand it over."

Asuna couldn't help laughing under her breath.

"Even now, you still have to show off. Here."

Asagiri took the phone, lifted it to his ear, and greeted her mother with a bright, confident voice.

"Hello. I'm Yuuki Asuna's boyfriend, Utsunomiya Asagiri."

A woman's voice ca through the receiver, serious and precise.

"Mm, hello, Utsunomiya. I'm Asuna's mother, Yuki Kyoko. Asuna tells you're also a first year student at Shuchiin Academy?"

"Yes."

"Mm… how are your grades?"

"First."

"First? What do you an? First in your class?"

Asagiri answered instantly, as if this was the most natural thing in the world.

"No. First in the Japan joint exam, first in the Shuchiin Academy entrance exam, first in the Shuchiin Academy spring grade exam. I won't ntion middle school. I've only taken three major exams since graduating, so I only have three first places. That's a bit few. Please bear with ."

"This…"

On the other end, Kyoko clearly froze.

She had never been opposed to Asuna dating after entering high school. And with Shuchiin Academy's environnt, she wasn't worried about delinquents or troublemakers. Still, she hadn't expected this.

First in the Japan joint exam. First at Shuchiin Academy. First in the grade.

In other words, the top student of their entire year in Japan.

Kyoko's satisfaction rose past "pleased" and shot straight into genuine delight. As a university professor who valued academics, she couldn't help it.

"Ahem. Utsunomiya."

She steadied her tone, then spoke more carefully.

"Let confirm sothing first. Are you and Asuna just casually dating like most high school students, or… are you serious?"

Asagiri's voice turned rare and sincere.

"It's the kind of relationship that ends in marriage."

The word "marriage" landed like a spark.

Asuna's cheeks flushed instantly, and her eyes softened with a warm, helpless affection.

"I see."

Kyoko sounded satisfied as well. After a brief pause, she continued, a faint smile entering her voice.

"In that case, I'm free this Sunday. If possible, could you invite your parents? The two families could have a al together and get to know each other."

"My parents passed away."

"Ah… I'm sorry."

"It's fine."

Asagiri's tone remained steady, even gentle.

"I do have an elder in Tokyo. If you don't mind, I'll invite her to join us."

"Mm, that works too."

Kyoko had been caught off guard, but she didn't waver.

What did it matter if his parents were gone? With results like that, he was more than qualified. Wealth was secondary. If Asuna was happy, and the boy himself was outstanding, that was enough.

Asuna took the phone back. Kyoko said a few more things. Asuna nodded repeatedly as she listened, then hung up.

"Um…"

Asuna's face was still red. Asagiri had said the word "marriage" so easily, right to her mother. She couldn't bring herself to et his eyes, so she spoke in a small voice.

"My mom said… even though I'm a girl, since we're dating, I shouldn't let you pay every ti. Otherwise, a boyfriend might end up resenting it. So she transferred … transferred …"

The words got quieter and quieter until they were nearly a whisper.

"She transferred so dating funds…"

Asagiri chuckled softly.

"Oh, our mom is pretty open minded."

Asuna gave him a wry, gentle smile.

"My mom is actually traditional. She's only acting like this because she's really satisfied with you… Oh, right. You said you have an elder in Tokyo. Why have I never heard you ntion her?"

Asagiri shrugged, utterly casual.

"Did I need to? You've seen her plenty of tis. You see her every day."

"Eh?"

Asuna blinked, then her expression turned helpless and amused.

"The elder you an… don't tell it's Ashikaga sensei."

"It is."

Asagiri nodded, then smiled.

"Even if your mother doesn't care much about social standing, it's still a bonus if I'm not only good at school and sports, but also have connections with the Shuchiin Academy board, right? And what's more…"

He stepped closer, gently combing his fingers through her flaxen hair.

"I'm also the Student Council Vice President. And you're part of the Student Council too."

Asuna froze, then her eyes trembled with emotion as understanding clicked into place. She looked up at him, voice soft.

"You… so you agreed to be Vice President, and had join you… it was for my mother…"

Asagiri cut her off with a smile.

"Listen to yourself. I'm not dating your mother. Everything I do is for you, to make my girlfriend happy."

"You really know how to talk…"

Asuna rose onto her toes, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him again.

"Mm..."

Feeling Asagiri's hand reach inside her clothes, Yuuki Asuna's breathing quickened, and she said with a slight tremor in her voice.

"C-Can't we just wait until tonight..."

"Tonight is for tonight, now is for now."

Yuuki Asuna lay on the sofa, her red long dress peeled off by Asagiri, revealing her long, fair legs clad in white ankle socks.

"Honestly..."

Yuuki Asuna lightly bit her lower lip, a misty layer forming in her eyes.

"I can barely take it anymore..."
