Now reading: Airship to the Frontier from Infinite Evolution: The Prodigy Beyond Limits, a Action novel by AetherNova.

The massive, rune-carved hull of the imperial dreadnought The Iron Leviathan groaned as its massive lift-thrusters engaged, kicking up a colossal storm of dust and residual mana across the academy's private launching gantry. Slowly, the multi-ton military airship detached from its iron mooring towers, rising into the cloud-choked sky above the capital and charting a direct course toward the brutal, unmapped wilderness of the southern border.

Inside the vessel's auxiliary mid-deck, the environnt was a stark contrast to the luxurious passenger liners of the high-born nobility. The walls were unpainted, cold-rolled tungsten plates stamped with the imperial vanguard crest, and the air slled heavily of chanical grease, ozone, and the faint, bitter scent of alchemical stimulants.

Over forty elite first-year students—the absolute peak of the freshman tier who had survived the expedited mid-term trials—sat in reinforced hydraulic jump seats along the periter of the hold. Every single one of them was fully geared. Gleaming E-Rank armorhide sets, enchanted staves pulsing with concentrated elents, and custom-forged runic weapons filled the space with a heavy, suffocating mass of passive mana signatures.

Yet, despite the formidable collection of prodigies, the entire hold was dead silent.

Every single pair of eyes was covertly fixed on the far corner of the deck, where Kai Raven sat entirely isolated.

He didn't wear the flashing armor of a high-born heir, nor did he carry a visible weapon of legendary grade. He wore a standard-issue, dark gray tactical military uniform, his hands resting casually on his knees. To the automated inspection arrays humming embedded in the airship's ceiling, his profile was unchanged.

But after the public humiliation of the Vance family in the grand plaza, nobody in the hold was foolish enough to look down on that baseline reading. To the students, he was an unreadable anomaly—a ghost who had walked through a restricted at grinder entirely unscathed while an entire elite execution squad vanished into ash around him.

A few seats away, Leo Vance sat slumped in his hydraulic harness, his face pale and eyes bloodshot. The pristine silver-plate armorhide he wore felt more like a cage than protection. He didn't look at Kai; he couldn't. Every ti his eyes drifted toward the corner, his chest tightened with a phantom suffocating pressure, a lingering side-effect of the absolute terror that had gripped his family when the Grand Duke descended.

HISS.

The pneumatic seal of the deck’s heavy iron blast door disengaged, sliding open to reveal Elena Reinhardt. She had traded her ceremonial magister robes for a practical, sleek set of C-Rank midnight-blue spellblade leather, the starlight runes along her gauntlets pulsing with a soft, rhythmic hum.

She didn't glance at the other heirs. She walked straight across the vibrating deck, stopping directly in front of Kai’s jump seat.

"The vanguard scouts just relayed the updated atmospheric paraters from the southern periter," Elena said, her voice dropping into a private frequency that easily cut through the low rumble of the airship's engines. "The Great Abyss Rift isn't just expanding; the local prival mana density has increased by an additional twelve percent since yesterday morning. The baseline mutation rate of the local entities is skyrocketing."

Kai raised his head, his violet eyes locking onto hers. "And the restriction barriers?"

"The outer periter is still held by my father's legion, but the deeper sectors are entirely unmapped," Elena replied, her jaw tightening slightly. "The High Council has classified the zone as a Tier-2 Cataclysm Risk. Normally, unawakened students aren't permitted within five miles of the fissure. But because of the ergency deploynt decree, we are being dropped directly into the secondary staging camps."

She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a razor-sharp whisper. "My father's analysts believe Marcus Vance has already contacted the southern regional factions. He can't use the academy enforcers anymore without violating the Duke's private decree, but the independent rcenary guilds operating in the Abyss don't care about imperial law. They only care about bounties."

A cold, faint smile pulled at the corners of Kai's lips. He didn't care about the rcenary guilds, nor did he care about the shifting politics of the High Council. His focus was entirely internal, locked onto the data screen floating at the edge of his vision.

[Infinite Evolution System]

Host: Kai Raven

Level: 8 (1,100 / 2,000 EXP)

Class Path Synthesis: 99.9% Complete.

[Current Objective]

Reach Level 10 and secure 1x Pristine Class Core from the Great Abyss Rift to unlock: 'Path of the Primordial Arbiter' (Uniqueness Rating: 99.9%).

With his effective Strength at sixty-nine and Agility at sixty-eight, he was a coiled spring waiting for a catalyst. The standard monsters of the academy rifts were no longer efficient for his growth; the experience point requirents to hit Level 9 and 10 were too steep for low-tier entities. He needed the dense, mutated life-forces of the Abyss to bridge the gap.

"Let them send whoever they want," Kai said softly, his voice carrying an unbothered, lethal calm that caused a nearby student to involuntarily shudder. "The Abyss is wide enough to bury all of them."

Before Elena could respond, the airship’s internal communication arrays flared to life, a harsh, synthesized chi echoing through the tal hold.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

"Attention all vanguard personnel," the pilot's voice bood through the speakers. "We have just crossed the territorial boundaries of the southern frontier. Approaching the drop zone for the Great Abyss Rift. Environntal gravity shift imminent. Secure your harnesses imdiately."

Instantly, the floor of the airship tilted violently as the vessel began a steep, high-speed descent through a dense layer of black, lightning-streaked storm clouds. The air pressure inside the hold plumted, the tal walls groaning under the sudden structural strain of the foreign atmosphere.

Through the narrow reinforced viewing ports of the deck, the true face of the frontier finally revealed itself.

Below them, the earth was torn completely wide open. A colossal, jagged chasm stretching hundreds of miles across the landscape bled an intense, pulsing violet light that stained the clouds above a deep, bruised crimson. Massive plus of raw, unrefined prival mana drifted out of the abyss like dark smoke, and even from thousands of feet in the air, the distant, guttural roars of colossal mutant beasts could be felt vibrating through the airship's hull.

Kai stood up from his seat, completely ignoring the safety harness as the ship violently buffeted against the wind currents. His Tempest Stride boots anchored his weight flawlessly to the silver floor, his violet eyes locked onto the glowing crimson depths of the chasm below.

The true hunting ground had finally arrived. The final two levels to his ultimate awakening were waiting for him in the dark.
