Da Seraphine clapped her hands, her eyes blazing with appreciation.
"Well said!" she declared. "But words and sophistry are worth dogshit without action behind them. If you grasped it, why don’t you show us? Let us see it." Her gaze slid sideways. "William. How about you two give us a show? Your Destruere against his."
HUUM!
Noah looked at Sir William and smiled.
He patted Seo-yeon’s head, and she smiled and moved off to the side, settling at a safe distance with the bright anticipation of a child who had already learned that watching Mister Noah fight was the most interesting thing in any room!
A path cleared between Noah and Sir William across the surface of the Leaf-Vessel, and his sponsor, the being who had introduced him to the path of the Sword of Existence, looked at him seriously and nodded, one hand resting at his blade.
Noah did not reach for the blade Sir William had given him. It felt wrong to draw his sponsor’s own gift against the sponsor, and besides, this was a test of the letter, not the weapon. He raised his hand instead, holding it up as though he ant to swing it down like a blade.
Sir William stood poised and dignified across from him.
"My destruction is honor," the Gentleman Knight said. "My destruction is dignity. Everything I unmake, I unmake because it should be unmade, and I do it cleanly, and I do it with the respect an ending deserves. That is the shape my Destruere takes, because it is the shape I take. So be ready. I will not insult you by holding back what I am."
Noah’s smile stayed easy.
"My destruction is...quintessential," he said. "And tyrannical. Everything reduced to its truest essence, and then denied. So." He drew a slow breath. "Persevere."
HUUM!
His eyes closed, and he envisioned destruction in the truest sense he could reach.
All the weavings he carried, every layer of what he was, told no. His Infinite Cause, denied. THE Infiniverse, denied. Chernobyl, denied. Everything he was connected to, every yes that existence had ever said on his behalf, revoked at once. Infinity said yes to everything, endlessly, without ceiling. Destruere said no.
And he asked himself the question the letter was built around: if his entire existence, with all its boundless yes, were t by an equal and total no, what would that destruction feel like? How vast would it have to be, to unmake sothing that had refused to be unmade across many apocalypses and two Observable Existences?
That was his understanding of the brand-new letter swimming through his mind, and as he grasped it more fully, second by second, the unbroken one-second rhythm of his Persevere and Exelissomai began to build on Destruere as well. The letters compounded into it, and what he envisioned grew unfathomably grand, the no swelling to match the yes, the destruction scaling to the size of everything he was!
He attained a profound state!
HUUM!
Opposite him, he felt Sir William’s Intent building, a record of profound dignity and honor gathering in the air, patient and imnse. And he felt that it would not release itself until he released his attack first. Sir William would let the new Sword strike before answering, a courtesy and a test in one.
Noah smiled at that. Sir William was a good guy, in whatever way beings like them could be called n. After all of this was settled, after Arkethys and the rest, he thought he might genuinely help the Gentleman Knight out sowhere down the line.
And then, in the next instant, he swung his hand down.
The mont he began to squeeze his hand closed, a ringing cry echoed out of THE Undefined Gaps they were crossing. The unstable states of existence all around the Leaf-Vessel cried out with fervor, the raw undefined potential of the Gaps responding to the letter as though sothing in them recognized what was being spoken.
"Destruere."
He said the word simply, and the weight of it bood out. The potential destruction of everything he knew!
The weight of his Infinity’s endless yes, t by an endless no! The potential unmaking of THE Infiniverse and Chernobyl and all of it, channeled through his understanding of the letter, wrapping around THE Aura of THE Source Barbarian, and...
"DESTRUERE!"
Across from him, Sir William shouted the word, his eyes wide with shock, because what he and Da Seraphine and every other Sword present could see was sothing none of them had expected.
Sothing unfathomably magnificent had appeared behind Noah.
It was a manifestation that blood only on extrely old and experienced Source Lifeforms, beings who understood the letters of THE Primordial Tongue with a depth asured in ages, and who had used those letters many, many tis across their existence.
The letters of THE Primordial Tongue were singular things. Their effects were so profound, and worked so directly on the wielder’s own existence and Source, that they carried an effect of closeness, and when a being used them again and again across a long enough span, a manifestation of their unique understanding could bloom into being around them. This was especially true of the letters that exerted their effect outward upon surrounding existence, like Destruere.
|Phenonon observed: THE Echo of the Tongue. The archaic manifestation that blooms around a wielder who has used a letter of THE Primordial Tongue so frequently, and understood it so deeply, that their comprehension takes on a visible form behind them. It appears only on the most seasoned Source Lifeforms across ages of practice. Its presence on a newly cleared Sword, on first grasp of a letter, has no precedent.|
And at this mont, Noah was exhibiting exactly such a manifestation.
Behind him, they saw a circular manifestation of an obsidian Terminal Observable Existence, filled with terrifying multicolored brilliance within, a dying domain rendered as the shape of his understanding. And the mont it blood, countless mirror-parallel versions of it stretched out behind him, an endless row of identical Terminal Observable Existences receding into the distance, like a column of endless destructive possibilities!
HUUUM!
All of them converged at once on his swinging hand, channeling their force forward toward Sir William, the swinging hand carrying it through, wrapped in sothing that looked like an Intent and was not.
From him, they felt a pressure none of them had expected from a being like him!
A pressure that stemd only from Source Lifeforms whose existence and blood had been steeped in THE Primordial Source at such density and concentration that they were deed Noble or Royal Source Lifeforms!
His entire figure beca surrounded by regal, imnse obsidian rivers of scintillating brilliance, and he seed otherworldly, ancient, the destruction descending from his hand feeling more terrifying than any third-rarity Intent any of them carried!
They were astonished, every one of them!
It was not until a mont later that Da Seraphine’s expression changed, and she moved.
She took a single step and stood in front of Sir William, her Olympian Intent erupting from her to clash against the terrifying force Noah had unleashed, because what was coming down had grown past what a test between two new acquaintances was ant to contain.
BOOM!
For a mont, everything froze.
The Leaf-Vessel. THE Undefined Gaps. The obsidian sea of Undefinition stretching in every direction. The mirror-parallel Terminal Observable Existences hanging behind Noah. All of it, frozen, caught in the instant where a sozoic Scale Intent t the Destruere of a being who should not have been able to manifest THE Echo of the Tongue on his first attempt, and existence itself seed to hold its breath waiting to see what happened next!
