"Well, that wasn’t very nice now, was it?"

The woman’s brows twitched, but before she could speak, Xuan raised a single finger, stopping her.

"Now, let clear the air before you choose your next step," Xuan said, narrowing his eyes. "We are not evil, and we’re only here to check the place out. All the rumors you’ve heard about us are fake."

The two people exchanged glances, then turned toward him.

"And why should we trust you?" the man asked. "All of what we heard tells us you’re liars and manipulators! How do we know you’re not lying to us?"

Xuan sighed. "You pitiful little sheep. If you can’t make decisions based off your own assumptions, then we’re in the wrong place. Let’s go, Yuelan."

Yuelan nodded and shot a disgusted look toward the two people before turning around and leaving alongside Xuan.

But not even a few seconds later, he heard footsteps behind him. Turning around, he saw the two people approaching with apologetic looks.

"Listen... it’s not that we don’t trust you—"

"No need to bullshit. You don’t trust us. Continue."

The woman’s brows twitched. "If we let you inside, panic is bound to arise. You are known throughout the entire city as the twin demons. Everyone believes that when you are near, there is going to be misfortune."

"That very sa person who spread such rumors is inside the camp, yes?" Xuan mused. "I’d like to et them if possible."

The man scoffed. "Did you not hear what i said? You are—"

Xuan raised a single finger, silencing the man.

"Let rephrase my question," Xuan said, his gaze hardening. "If you don’t let see the person who spread such rumors about us, then I’m going to kill you two, then find the man via the process of elimination."

The mont he finished speaking, a deathly silence ensued.

But it was soon broken by a single ssage from Yuelan.

Well... that’s true, but I like being straightforward, Xuan thought with a sigh.

He waited for their reply, and soon, they got one.

"We will be risking our positions and lives if we let you in, so I want you to promise us you won’t kill anybody whilst inside," the woman, i, said, her hands slightly trembling. "Co with us."

She turned around and approached the gate alongside the stunned man.

As for Yuelan, she was left speechless.

Xuan snickered.

With that final ssage, they stepped past the massive gate and entered the camp.

The camp was a rough periter of tents, scrap walls, and guard posts, all thrown together with survival in mind. Smoke rose from burn barrels, and ard eyes watched every movent.

But their intimidation extended only to those who had no way to defend themselves. Xuan was confident he could deal with every single one of these people present.

Yet he wouldn’t. There were young, and there were old people scattered around, all unified.

Though... their unity is especially strong with the amount of side-eyes I’m getting. Did I kill their family...? No way.

They were led to a tent on the far end of the camp where a single tiny tent stood.

"Elder Chun! You have visitors!" i yelled.

Monts later, the tent’s flaps opened, and an old man walked through, brushing his beard.

Xuan imdiately noticed that the old man was blind.

"This is... Elder Chun," i introduced him. "He’s the person who—"

"Hello," Xuan cut her off as he took one step closer to the old man.

Elder Chun’s brows furrowed. "I recognize that voice... You’re that demon, aren’t you? Is your twin with you? Have you co to kill ?"

"That depends," Xuan replied plainly. "Why spread such rumors about us? Have we wronged you in so way?"

"Ha..." Elder Chun clicked his tongue. "You rats go around killing people, then co at for calling you murderers! Where is the justice? Do you think your actions would’ve gone unnoticed if this was the old world?"

He took a few steps back and waved his cane around, as if he was trying to hit Xuan.

But that was when Yuelan slashed her sword, cutting the cane in two, causing the old man to drop face-first onto the ground.

"We’re not people who like making fun of old people, but you should know that the old rules do not apply to a world that has gone through such change," Xuan said. "And I don’t recall killing people who haven’t attacked us first? So get your story straight, old man."

With that, he turned around. He couldn’t be bothered dealing with such nonsense further. After all, what good would it do convincing a senile old man who couldn’t even speak?

But when Xuan took a few steps back, his senses flared, making him Swift Step backward.

Since he had done it out of instinct, he didn’t go the usual 25 ters that his skill allowed. Instead, it was a re 1 ter.

Even so, Xuan used that opportunity to strike the blurry cane, shattering it in two.

Yuelan took a few steps back, puzzled as she stared at the old man.

"...What’s up with him?"

He had closed his eyes, and yet, strange red veins started spreading throughout his entire body before settling down.

"My apologies..." Elder Chun mumbled, his words slurred. "It seems like things got slightly out of hand."

"Elder Chun...?" i tilted her head. "Are you okay? Should we call the doctors—"

Her words were cut off when, all of a sudden, her head went flying into the sky.

It all happened in the blink of an eye, and the perpetrator was none other than Elder Chun, who had his hand raised sideways.

Thick red Qi surrounded his hand in a blade-like shape, flickering constantly into a much darker shade.

"Nooooo! i!" the man from before yelled as he ran for Elder Chun, tears in his eyes.

As he was about to swing his sword down at Elder Chun, a hole appeared in his body, right where his heart used to be.

And just like i, he soon fell to the ground, lifeless.

Elder Chun let out a sigh, his lips curling into a devilish smile.

He glanced at Xuan and Yuelan, and in the next mont, he vanished from sight.

Xuan’s senses flared once more, causing him to duck and avoid a red Qi-covered fist from severing him in two.

He raised his body, and using that montum, threw a Void Qi-infused fist straight at Elder Chun.

But instead of easily obliterating him like Xuan had done with all his previous opponents, Elder Chun sent a red Qi-infused fist in return.

Purple and red Qi clashed, and to Xuan’s honest surprise, he got pushed back all the way beside Yuelan, who already had her sword drawn.

As for Elder Chun, he shook away the attack with a wide smile, completely unscathed.

"Yuelan..." Xuan muttered, straightening his posture.

"Be careful. He’s a bit dangerous."
