"You don’t know the Enthrall Institute? It’s the biggest dical organization in Anglas. They base in Luandon."
"Ah. I see. I’m from a very rural area so I don’t know about it." Carter said.
"You should go to them. I heard that they were giving out examinations for new doctors. People say that Enthrall Certificate worth several tis more than other dical organization."
"Yes... You’re right."
Carter didn’t have any paper on him. That was one of the difficult of this world. Terrorstate was all digital and that allowed him to use System Ghost to create a fake identity for him.
Corrupted Corps didn’t even have electricity yet. If he wanted to have a paper. He would need to forge it the traditional way.
’I should find a way to legitimize my identity. It would make everything easier in the long run.’
A legit identification helped him settle down in this world and did many things. If he didn’t have Carter Caine back in Terrorstate, he would have much more difficult in building the legend of the Eldritch Knight.
The night ended swiftly and Carter left with the coachman first thing in the mont.
He didn’t realize that a feminine figure was watching as he left.
"That potion... It is sothing different." She said.
A while later.
"We’re here, Dr. Hugo!" The coachman said.
Carter climbed down from the carriage. His large wooden chest on his back and his dical bag in his hand.
"Thank you for the ride, Harry. How much was that?"
"2 pounds, Dr. Hugo!"
"Here you go, Harry."
After the job with Charles, Carter had 103 pounds, 1 shilling and a few pennies. The coach fair reduced his pounds to 101.
Railroad train hadn’t been a trendy thing in this world yet. It was a new technology and only a few big cities had it. So said that Anglas was planning on expanding the railways to all the cities. Until that day ca, traveling would still be expensive via these coach carriages.
"I wonder if they will ever make a railway to Orkshire." Carter mumbled.
"The new steam train right, Dr. Hugo? I heard that so inventors are still trying to perfect it. I wouldn’t want they succeed though. Because I would run out of job. Haha!"
The coachman whipped his horses and went away. He didn’t hear what Carter had to say next.
"Sotis we can’t stop the trajectory of history, Harry."
Carter carried his big chest into Luandon. He noticed the difference right away. The roads here were broad and wide, capable of accompany many carriage lanes as once.
People gave him weird look because of his big wooden chest.
A short scrawny kid stepped in front of him. "You’re new here, huh? As tradition, all travelers must pay 20 shillings for entry."
Carter chuckled and continued on his way. "Go bother soone else, kid."
"Hey! I’m the mber of the Clock Watch gang! If you don’t pay up, there will be consequences!"
"A clock is a clock. A watch is a watch. What is even a Clock Watch?"
"Doesn’t matter! 20 shillings now!"
Carter continued walking and ignored him. The kid took out a club and bashed him.
The skinny doctor caught it easily and pushed the kid back.
"Scram, kid!"
"You’ll regret this!"
The kid ran away.
"Now. Let’s find soplace to stay first."
With the remaining 101 pounds, Carter went around Luandon to find a suitable flat to stay. He wanted an independent flat with windows for the ease to sneak out. There were worker chambers available with very cheap price but Carter needed discretion so that wasn’t an option.
He rented a flat near the center of the city with a paynt of 5 pounds per week. That’s 20 pounds a month. The flat was very spacious and had many rooms. A bedroom for him. One for his office and an empty room that he could use as his laboratory. It was in a rather secluded street also so discretion was guaranteed.
The price was a little steep though.
Inside the flat.
"Alright, Dr. Hugo. Please sign these docunts here and the flat is yours. One month paynt up front. After that, you only need to settle the paynt for that month only."
The owner was a kind old lady that lived downstairs while Carter had the upper floor flat. The flat had its own entrance also so Carter wouldn’t have to encounter her too much.
"Here’s the paynt, Mrs. Hudson." Carter counted the gold coins and placed them on the table.
"Perfect!"
And with that, his life in Luandon was settled.
"Oh, and... Rember to not do anything illegal in the flat. Otherwise, I don’t know you."
She said before he left, which drew out a chuckle from him.
’This woman is rather interesting.’
Carter didn’t have much baggage with him. The only things were the Brewer’s Chest and dical Bag, both of which could be held inside the skin itself.
The doctor went out and bought a map of the place. It was pretty cheap and only cost the last shilling he had.
The map indicated all the safe zone inside Luandon and quarantined zones that were filled with Black Blood Infected and Undead.
They even had danger level at each zone, showing how deadly it was. But for Carter, it was an indication of the quality of the shards he would get.
The quarantined zones were split in five danger levels, one to fine.
Level 1 zone consisted of a few Infected. Ordinary people were still living in these zones. But they were ’advised’ to not have too much contacts with safe zones to avoid outbreak.
Level 2 zone consisted of much more Infected and the people were largely sick. These zones were dangerous and separated away from Level 1 zones and safe zones.
From Level 2, all higher level zones had strict quarantine with guards and policen standing at every chokepoints.
Level 3 and 4 zones were largely filled with death and chaos. Most people here died and were too far gone to save.
Level 5 had the most Undead. Even so that was marked as demon reincarnation. Going in and out of Level 5 zones was basically impossible for ordinary people.
’Well then. Let’s visit a Level 5 Zone later tonight.’ Carter smiled.
The sun went down.
