For the first ti, David found himself in the crosshairs of these stories. As he stared at the contrasting reports, the truth seed irrelevant.
What mattered was making people believe in the dia's authority.
The street was eerily deserted, every door locked tight. Flickering neon lights cast brief flashes of electricity into the desolate air.
Their destination, the Ho-Oh Nightclub, was hidden in a grimy alley off Elennan Street. A maze of dingy roads and dripping pipes led them to the heart of this squalid den of vice.
Barricades blocked their entry, guarded by two Tyger Claw bouncers. A neon sign on the wall read "Ho-Oh."
What they saw next churned their stomachs: a girl's mutilated body displayed grotesquely on the outer wall. Her eyes had been pinned open, frozen in terror.
"Last truck!" one of the guards shouted as a van rumbled forward. It was clear several vehicles had already departed.
"Stop that van!" David urged.
"Are you crazy?" Maine growled.
[David to Leo]: "Boss, a van's leaving Ho-Oh with people inside. What do we do?"
[Leo]: "If you're not scared to die, handle it. Don't bother with small stuff."
David clenched his fists. "Boss said to go for it if we dare. I dare."
Maine cocked his pistols. "No one's stopping us, then. Let's hit it!"
The team acted quickly. David and Maine stepped out onto the street, weapons aid at the van's driver and passenger.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bullets shattered the windshield, killing the driver instantly.
But their shots ignited a hornet's nest.
Tyger Claws opened fire, spraying bullets wildly as more gang mbers poured into the street.
David and his team darted for cover, exchanging fire with the gang. With their hackers providing overwatch, enemy weapons malfunctioned sporadically, giving them a slim advantage.
Still, the Claws' numbers and firepower were overwhelming. Pinned down, the team resorted to grenades, tossing them indiscriminately into the chaos.
Boom!
Explosions rocked the alley.
But then, the gunfire dwindled—almost eerily so.
"What's going on?" Rebecca muttered, peeking out cautiously.
"Wait," Lucy's voice trembled. "It's not silent. They're... firing at soone else."
Peeking out, they saw him: a man in a red Oni mask, darting between the Tyger Claws with blinding speed.
"Cyberpsycho!" soone yelled.
The masked man turned, his blade gleaming. His cybernetic body moved with inhuman precision, slicing through enemies like paper.
The team froze in terror.
And then he turned to David. The Oni mask lood closer, his voice sharp:
"Why did you choose to fight, boy? Do you even understand the weight of your choices?"
David couldn't answer. Fear clamped his throat shut.
Before he could react, a second figure erged—a man with a bandana and a shotgun.
"Scum!!!"
Boom! The shotgun roared, driving the masked psycho into retreat.
"Get out of here!" soone shouted. "They're both cyberpsychos!"
David's team didn't need to be told twice. They scrambled to escape, leaving the battle between monsters behind.
